Please do not confuse with Gameday for CFB playoffs. Oh wait, there are no playoffs in football. [End of editorial]

Thanks for the board, Oh Expired Currency. What better for action starved CFB fans months from Fall practice than some collegiate diamond doings?

May 17, 2013  08:13 AM ET

Yep....MSST is in the Mobile, Al Regional....playing FSU today. not sure how strong USA is, but the FSU game should be a good one...

May 17, 2013  08:13 AM ET

And OU shouldn't have any trouble in their Regional

Go Gatah

Softball is likely a better Go Gatah candidate than baseball this year. Thanks for the thread DM, excellent idea.

Thought I'd have some softball with my morning coffee, but the first televised game is 2-3 hours away. Weird scheduling.... Oregon or UNC will have 2 wins before anyone else even plays.

Still remember Coach Walton suspending 3 of his best players before the Regionals last year. Might have cost him a championship, but I have to salute him for the cajones he showed and doing the right thing. I'll be pulling for Gatahs this year... until they play a PAC team.

Yes....he did an honorable thing. Don't think most CFB coaches would come near that...

Wow, got to looking at the seeds. If all goes according to Hoyle, it will be a female rematch of the Cotton bowl; aggies vs. sooners AND a female rematch of the Sugar bowl; cardinals vs gators. Very interesting!

Nice catch. Could very easily happen in the Superregionals. Either of the same winners would be a real shock.

Early results-
UGA over SDSU
USF over GaSouthern
NCSt over James Madison
Hofstra over OreSt
Oregon (2-0) over UNC (1-1)

A couple of firsts for UNC in this year's regionals. Yesterday they posted the first win, today they lost twice (Ore and Wisc) and were the first team to be eliminated.

No major surprises in the first round.... All 16 seeded teams won.

Go Lady Vols!

OU did it's thing with ease.

MSST lost to Florida State and plays Miss Valley State today....

Update:

Oregon is the first winner of a Regional and will host a Superregional next week.

Cent.Mich, Hampton, and Stonybrook join UNC on the sidelines.

Seeded teams LSU and Louisville lose in the second round. UTk is in the 11th inning of a scoreless tie. Lots more action to go today.

BYU and Wisky are also gone.

MSST is gone...lost to USA 3-2

Half of the 64 teams have been eliminated so far, and #15 Louisville is the only seeded goner. #9 LSU and #13 So. Alabama are alive despite losing one today. The other seeded teams are undefeated.

Nearly all the "weak sister" conferences are gone except for two teams from the Colonial Athletic Association; Hofstra and James Madison. Another surprise is that only one game has been postponed so far. 15 regionals to be decided on Sunday....
