MLB  > New York Mets  > Bobby Parnell and Rick Aguilera
July 10, 2013, 12:01 PM
The 28 year old Parnell seems to be finally shaping into a fine closer. Parnell is on track to save 28-32 games this season.

Parnell is much like Rick Aguilera of the mid-late 80s Mets who was subsequently traded to the Twins with two other young pitchers for Frank Viola.

Aguilera developed a split-finger fastball and a sharp slider to accompany an above average fastball that he had. His career ended with over 300 career major league saves.

The Mets are said to be listening to offers for Parnell. With this budget conscious rebuilding team, I feel the Mets should keep Parnell unless they can acquire a stop gap closer who can fill in at the majors for now and also a handful of young prospects.
