Game one - It was good to see Wall being interviewed by Miller and Kerr. They had some fun. It was good to see Wall and Beal attending, too, to check out the rookies.

Rice had some nice plays.

Porter didn't do much.

Vesely had his usual weak play. Not sure why people keep saying here that it will be important for Vesely to turn the corner. The only corner I see Vesely taking will be a right turn back to Europe when his contract expires. Another wasted pick, along with Singleton.

The lowest scoring game in summer league history did not look pretty.

3 steals and 3 blocks out of Vesely, not too shabby. Without having watched the game I cant really tell but looking at the box Vesely had a more encouraging game than Porter did. Better +/- than any of the other starters.

Ugly is the word I am search for - maybe something uglier than ugly.

July 14, 2013  01:18 PM ET

I've only watched the 1st half so far (will suffer through the rest later), but it didn't look good and checking out the box score, it didn't get any better.

From what I saw, every "question mark" still remains around each player of significance. Porter looks slower than we'd like and his jumper is not smooth. Rice is a shooter and sometimes needs to make better choices (ala Jordan Crawford). Singleton lacks aggressiveness and his shot is pretty ugly. While Vesely still needs to be more assertive and look to create some offensive scores on his own.

With a lack of "go to scorer" on the roster, the Wizards will continue to struggle putting points up, 52 is an embarrassment. It can only get better, however the Knicks will be gunning with Shumpert and Haradaway Jr.

Porter is definitely not an iso player and will only succeed within a system, so it seems like he's not going to do well in the Summer League format. I was never really in the Otto Porter camp, but I don't think yesterday's outing really proved anything either way.

It seems like with the exception of Olynyk and McCollum, nearly everyone from this year's lottery has been struggling. Trey Burke and Carter-Williams have been abysmal with their shooting, and Mclemore shot 4-23 last night. Still, it's Summer League. Who knows.

Porter's inability to get to the line in Summer League games is pretty upsetting.

Vesely had 6 fouls and 4 turnovers in game one. Very sloppy near the end.

Game two, Vesely just butterfingered the ball in the post for a turnover. And he just lost his dribble in the post for another turnover.

Vesely had a couple of nice plays in the fourth quarter of game two. The one handed fingertip lay in off the glass on the alley oop was sweet. He then had a nice fadeaway turnaround jumper in the post. He has been holding his position on defense better than he did in his first year, too. He just took a charge.

Vesely has looked the same as always with turnovers, but he is showing some progress in some areas of his game.

Vesely: Four turnovers in game two. But he had 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a block.

Play of the game was Leslie's dunk on Rice:

P.S. Why aren't we staring GR jr? Who the heck is Haynes and Horner that we are committing time to in place of a guy who will actually make our roster.

July 14, 2013  05:51 PM ET

I kind of like Vesely as our backup C. He has the ability to do a lot steals, blocks, rebound, screen wise. Fouls and offense will be his issue though.

July 14, 2013  05:59 PM ET

I agree about starting Rice. This is how he will develop his game and become accustomed to playing with Porter, Vesely, and Singleton, and to some of the offensive plays of the team.

And besides all that, he is just better than those other guys.

July 14, 2013  06:08 PM ET

Among a lot of other signs. One thing is certain. Singleton hasn't progressed his jump shot to become the stretch 4 we are looking for. Expect a trade in a coming days, weeks that will bring a proven one over.

This SL team is bad. They don't have any playmakers and due to that the offense is stagnant and ineffective. Gaines was supposed to bring some maturity and add stability to the PG position, but he's been nothing more than a TO machine. Singleton has been useless, I mean really. He's logged over 120 NBA games and plays like a rookie. I would imagine he's all but sealed his way to the bench for some DNP's and than off the roster ASAP.

I like some of what I've seen from Rice offensively, but gosh, his defense is BAD! He got toasted twice on wing dives for big dunks and honestly he looks like his intensity comes and goes (this may go back to being the son of an NBA player).

Porter is...

I don't want to crucify him for two bad games in the SL, but man! He certainly is playing like a player that doesn't have much athleticism (he struggled to dunk the ball with two hands on an open fast break), has difficulty creating his own shot, and on the boards is getting out muscled.

The brightest spot on the roster is Vesely, who physically looks in good shape and is playing a decent big man role right now, even showing a little back to the basket inside game. I'd love to see them iso him against a center and make him play facing the basket, attempting to use his quickness to get past a slower footed big that's guarding him. Can he do it? Not sure, but I'd like to see them try it occasionally and force him to use his dribble a little more.

Double post. My bad.

July 15, 2013  12:05 PM ET

So after the first two games, it seems like Porter is going to have problems creating his own shot. Unless, like Raekwon pointed out, he can put on enough weight to play some minutes at 4.

It doesn't seem like he has the quickness to to create ANY penetration, and like EJ said, he's not looking very athletic. I saw that wide open fast break two-handed dunk where he struggled to get it in...

But, If Wittman and the FO want to, I think they can play him right away and not have any major issues - he can play defense, and he's not going to take a lot of bad shots (probably not many shots at all). He's a solid passer and knows how to play basketball. The thing is, I'm not sure he's going to be an upgrade over Ariza/Webster at this point...

Again, it's just Summer League, though...

July 15, 2013  12:25 PM ET

If there is one positive in his two games, is he seems to take care of the ball. Of course he isn't doing much with the ball when he has it but still low T/O's is low T/O's.

I was hoping to see more of everything, getting steals, blocks, rebounds, assists, making a couple 3's. I don't think Porter should be playing the 4, Otto is a 3 and will always be a 3. I was just saying his talent is more 3/4 than 2/3 imo. He can take the ball down the court and that is great but he doesn't have the athleticism to keep himself at his weight and make it in the NBA. He needs to bulk up and be able to use his length as an advantage.

July 15, 2013  12:30 PM ET

I don't think Porter playing at 4 is a good idea. I think it's actually the worst case scenario. My concern is that he's not really capable of beating wing players off the dribble, so he'd have no choice but to play some 4 when the right match up is available. At this point, he's not even strong enough to play the 3...

July 15, 2013  12:32 PM ET

If you look at some of his MADE shots, you can see how much he was struggling to find a good look. One of his baskets came off of a ton of dribbling and crossovers that resulted in a fadeaway ~18 footer.

July 15, 2013  12:46 PM ET

I think we should all accept that Porter should have been a ~10th-12th overall pick in any reasonable draft. I think, even though seeing it first hand is much more bothersome, we knew all along that he wasn't going to be someone who could regularly create his own offense. Most of his offensive game is based around screens and cuts and mid-range shots. I think he's almost guaranteed not to be a bust, but I think it's also almost a guarantee that he'll be a pretty weak #3 pick.

I know I'm speculating a lot for two SL games -- especially when the SL format is awful for Porter's style and when he's playing out of position and not with Wall (or any viable PG), but I find it hard to envision a scenario in which he averages more than 15 ppg.
