NFL  > General NFL  > My quest to find my NFL team.
September 30, 2013, 12:50 AM
First, a bit of back story: throughout my years watching football, I've rooted for about three teams. First it was the rams, then it was the chargers, and now the Cowboys.

Here's the thing, I don't feel like they were MY teams, though. I originally rooted for the rams because of one of my cousins, I then rooted for the chargers just because I think I just picked them randomly, and I then rooted for the Cowboys due to my cousins on my dad's side which really all Cowboys fans. So that's been in my subconscious since I was young. My dad and brothers like to tease me that I switch teams all the time, but I'm just trying to find MY team.

So, I think I'm yet again thinking of rooting for a new team, and there's a few I'm Considering: the Detroit Lions, the Pittsburg steelers, or the Denver broncos.

The thing with the lions, and why they are in the front to run new for me is that I just like them for some reason. There's the under dog, they're in the midst of major restructuring and have long term potential. And I admit I'm a fan of their blue and silver look. I like Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford.

The steelers mainly for their storied history. But I admit I'm not really feeling them for some reason. It's mainly because I'm not a fan of the quarterback. And I don't want to pick a team out of popularity. But they are always a rather solid team.

The broncos I like because I remember the elway days when I was a kid. And I think Denver has great potential, but I'm not sure how long Manning is going to be around.
And I like the bright orange :)

Honestly, I'm probably going Detroit. Because of reasons I listed and that they are the underdogs. And megatron, lol.

I should note that I am from and live in California, but there isn't any cali teams I'd want to root for

But I would like to hear your guys feedback on this. I don't want to keep switching g teams, but I gotta find that's me, you know?

Living in Cali I am surprised you aren't a 49ers fan (lifelong fan at that) as they have a great tradition with 5 SB wins and had Montana in the 80's, Young in the 90's, and now Kap and just went to the SB last season. Not sure what to tell ya? It sounds like you are just an NFL fan in general and like watching for the competition and love the game itself not any 1 team. With me it's easy as I was born in Indianapolis and the Colts moved to Indiana in 1984 and Ive been a fan since. Ive been pretty lucky as a 30 year fan as I had the Dickerson days in the late 80's (1987 Playoff berth), the Harbaugh moments in 1995 with an AFC Title Game App, and of course the Peyton days with a SB win (2006) and another SB App (2009), and now Andrew Luck up incoming. Anyway good luck figuring it out.

In not opposed to being a 49ers fan. If I had to pick a Cali team,it be the for the very reasons you said.

For whatever reason,I never really rooted for my states team. For basketball I like the chicago bulls. And so on.

I think I will give great consideration to the 49ers. It might be nice to actually be able to attend a home game every now and then.

Pretty much it would be between the lions or the 49ers then.

I'm also really going to throw steelers in that mix because of their storied history. But us that a reason to root for a team?

The ghost of Al Davis will visit you during your sleep one night soon and reveal to you the team that you should be rooting for.

And then do the complete opposite of whatever he says.

Hmmm..you better get off that last team. They flat out suck. Oh wait, that's not news. You want a stable team that finds ways to win despite adversity, get on the Pats bandwagon.

Wait for a new exp. team or a team that has relocated to a new city. That way you can be on the ground floor and say you were a fan of them from day one.

Do a flip-a-coin tournament:

Panthers vs Falcons
Packers vs Bears

Texans vs Titans
Browns vs Steelers

Redskins vs Giants
Ravens vs Bengals

Eagles vs Cowboys
Jaguars vs Colts

Jets vs Dolphins
Lions vs Vikings

Bills vs Patriots
Buccaneers vs Saints

Broncos vs Raiders
49ers vs Cardinals

Chiefs vs Chargers
Rams vs Seahawks

You'll have to flip a coin 31 times but you'll end up with your team.

The thing is though when Tom retires who will replace him? He may still play 3 more years but that isnt like 15 years. The Pats need to start thinking about that like the Colts did a couple years ago. Peyton is the MVP so far but I still say the Colts had to make that decision letting him go and drafting Luck because Luck is good and will probably be great and has 15 years in front of him. Colts had to let Peyton go also to rebuild the parts as a whole = Salary Cap. The Core Peyton was playing with was falling a part in Addai, Clark, Collie, Saturday - Peyton's main man, Brackett, Sessions, and of course Sanders who all turned into glass and got injured every other game and they got let go as well so Indy could rebuild. The Colts are young now and ready for the next era except for Wayne but Wayne still has 2 great years left :)

They will shock the world and draft Johnny Football. LOL. No, not really but Mallett doesn't seem like the answer either, so you're right, they do need to find someone SOON that will be the heir to Brady and learn from him.

It's been almost 20 years since they had a relevant team, relevant in the terms of success on the field.

So,I think its going to be between the Lions,Steelers,or 49ers.

The things I like about the lions are are that I like that they are kind if the underdogs that are now becoming contendors. And I like Calvin Johnson and they're uniforms. However, they don't have the best history by any means.

The steelers have one of the most storied histories and legacies in all of football. From the steel curtain to Bradshaw to mean Joe Greene and so on. They're always a real solid team (current season not withstanding). The one thing that I kinda don't like is that it seems everyone's a steelers fan. They're really popular. Which isn't a bad thing, but it might be seen as bandwaggony.

The 49ers are obviously a home team for me as far as I live in California (LA) and don't gave a NFL team in LA, but I like the 49ers the most out of the three California teams. Also,I grew up in the Steve Young and jerry rice days, and it would be nice to at least have the ability to attend a home game once in a while.

So I'm not sure.
