NCAAF  > Alabama Crimson Tide  > Andre Smith

Ok. What was Andre Smith thinking? He was going to possibly be a top 10 draft pick and then he showed up at the combine way out of shape. Then after that we walked out on the press which makes a big deal out of everything. Then he decided to come back and after he had already showed up way out of shape and then walked out on the press. What is your opinion?

I think Andre Smith was planning on having a private workout anyway. Ticking off the media was a bad PR move but I think we are simply seeing the media taking it's shots at Andre.

An NFL exec is going to review his game tapes and give Andre a fresh shot at the private workout. If he performs well at the private workout, the combine will be irrelevant. A team like St. Louis who is desparate to rebuild the o-line will take him.... even if he is a meathead.

Based upon the assumption that Smith will get his act together before the draft and have a solid workout, he'll be back in the top 5 or 6.

I agree with CM, If you can comprehend the phrase " hey, block that guy" you too can have a lucrative career as a lineman in the NFL. jk of course. All anyone has to do is look at film of him and know the kid can play. He will still be drafted in the top 10

Top 10 reasons Andre left the Combine:
10. Followed the signs that said "this way to the Egress"
9. He was following Peter King's suggestion to try a Coffee shop in MMQB.
8. He realized that he wasn't at the Bowl game.
7. He was told to take the Wonderlic test and he went to buy a loaf of bread.
6. He agent called and told him his double parked Escalade was being towed.
5. He saw on the in-flight movie that disappearing really helped Lightning McQueen.
4. He received NFL tips from Barrett Robbins.
3. St. Louis wanted to interview him next.
2. Kansas City wanted to interview him after that.
1. Matt Millem saw him in the lobby and screamed "Run, Andre, Run! Just like Forrest! RUN!"

*Millen.

He was planning on having a private workout (but one wonders how he expected to be in shape for that) and then during some interviews he kept being asked what was the true story behind his suspension from the Sugar Bowl and when he realized they weren't happy with the Mark McGwire type cop out, he panicked and left.

Heres exactly What Andre Smith did before he decided not to go to the NFL: Step 1 : "Sup brother why dont we go down ta Popeys and grab some Legs. Step 2 : Why dont I go Down ta Vicks house, I heard he got some new dogs. Step 3: I'm felling kinda tired i'm gonna go down to Rickeys house and have a few puffs!!! hahahahahahahahahahah Good Job BigSaintsFan

I think he just had reeeeaaaaaly bad advice. Why do people employ anti-agency? "Percy, You look stressed out about the drug test- maybe you should smoke this to relax." "Andre, these reporter's seem agitated. If you suddenly split they will forget about you in a day or two. The Combine will understand."

I heard a really good observation on this. A known scout said he didn't think Andre was any more out of shape than many players are when they come into the combine, but he was brutally honest that he hadn't worked out and it cost him.

The scout said, if he had just worked out at the combine and did as well as he did at the personal workout, no one would have made that big a deal about it. The scouts might have been under-impressed by his performance but it wouldn't have damaged their view of him as much as what he actually did.

Just a bad sports agent giving him bad advice. The scout went on to say that that sports agent had never had a client ready for the combine.

I think it follows the anti-agent theory. People hire advisors that give them horrible advice, or managers that are incompetent.

I'm still scratching my head about Herman Johnson going in the 5th? He should have been 3rd.........Geaux figure. Still got 6 drafted. They missed out on a good LB in Darry Beckwith. He will find a good team to sign with.

Rey Malauga was the one that really surprised me. What was it, #40th overall? Damn, what a drop.
