NFL  > General NFL  > Ref cusses at Trent Williams
November 18, 2013, 07:14 AM
Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams has accused NFL umpire Roy Ellison of swearing at him during Sunday's disappointing 24-16 loss in Philadelphia.

Williams said that Ellison called him a "a garbage ass disrespectful mother(expletive)," according to Grant Paulsen of WJFK-FM in Washington.

An NFL spokesperson confirmed that the league is looking into the matter.

"I just don't think there's no room for you to have to take that from the team and the refs," Williams said. "I think it's very unprofessional and it sucks. I'm at a loss for words. You never expect that as a player going into a game to have to beef with the refs also."

Paulsen said that "several" of Williams' teammates verified the claim.

"That's exactly what Mr. Umpire said," guard Kory Lichtensteiger said. "He walked in between me and Trent when he said it."

I find it really difficult to support Trent Williams here. And not because he's a Washington Redskins - but because this story is pathetic. And this coming off the heels of the Johnathan Martin / Richie Incognito media hype.

You can't tell me that offensive linemen don't hear equal/worse than that in the trenches every game.

And the fact that a referee said it? So what. They're all on the field together all game. I'd expect this kind of language is common place.

The abject "sissification" of the game of football continues.

We'll probably only hear one side of this story as I'd bet the ref never talks about what he said. So, we may never know what Williams may have done/said to elicit that kind of a response from ther ref?

The inclusion of "disrespectful" makes me think Trent Williams did something to provoke the response.

I'm not buying into this.

Read elsewhere that this is NOT a first time event for the Ref. In addition, another Redskin was "mic'd up" and it was probably captured by NFL films and the league was going to get the tape and sort this out. Hope they nail the Ref, not professional from the guy in the white/black striped uniforms and what they are supposed to represent.
