NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Dallas Cowboy Merchandise Carrying the Americas' Team Label
February 26, 2009, 08:50 PM
In case you are interested. There are 2 card companies who have accepted the Dallas Cowboys as Americas' Team. Topps has a 4 card set that came out in 2003 featuring Drew Pearson, Tony Dorsett, Roger Staubach and Tony Hill. The cards are very flashy. Yes, they have the nickname printed on the card. They can be bought on the internet or card shops. Upperdeck in 93 came up with a 15 card set including stars from both Super Bowl teams from 2 decades. It carries players like Lilly, Jordan, Martin, R. White, Staubach,D. Pearson, Norton, Novacek, Irvin, E. Smith, Maryland, Aikman checklist, Americas' Team header card featuring Emitt, R. Jones and Maryland. They too have the nickname written on the cards. I can't tell you where to go but I am sure I know how to use search. I have collected over 150 of these cards.
NFL Films has 2 dvds or vhs cassettes referring to Dallas as Americas' Team. There are atleast a dozen books referring to Dallas as Americas' Team which you can find on the internet. Flashy covers with the nickname on the books. Just use the search sites, type in 'Americas' Team" at varous sites. Probably can't tell you exactly where but seek and you will find! There are also a few t-shirts around you can purchase and also I have seen a cap or two as well as posters with the nickname. I just love that label!!!!!! Explore the internet! Blow away other teams in sales! Let em know you are there! Good luck fans! Oh by the way, theres no merchandise for the Steelers with that label. Why!? because you ain't Americas' Team!

i'm a dallas fan too, but that tag "America's Team" is fading if not gone. when they talk about this, they are referring to the great players in the past that earned the team this name. today's players are in my opinion not worthy of this name. they are overpaid, undisciplined individuals that will never perform at the level of the past teams that won superbowls. i wish this would change because i've been a cowboy fan for 40 yrs. but they are a mess right now!

Yea, they beat the defending champions convincingly in December and lost in OT at Arizona who went to the Super Bowl. What a mess. Did the Steelers slaughter us or did we basically give away the game. In 07, we came within 4 points of going to the NFC Championship. The Ravens were 4-12 in 07 and went to the AFC cHAMPIONSHIP 1 year later. Stop listening to the morons in the media.

America's Team Advocate says:

"I just love that label!!!!!!! Explore the internet! Blow away other teams in sales! Let em know you are there! Good luck fans! Oh by the way, theres no merchandise for the Steelers with that label. Why?! Because you ain't Americas" Team!"

Sigh. I guess us Steelers fans will just have settle for merchandise labeled "Six-Time Champions". Dammit.

I kid, I kid. In all seriousness, it's kind of amazing to see ATA and SBF being halfway calm and lucid regarding football (DallasFan77 himself is being eminently reasonable). Why can't you two be a little more like this all the time? :) ATA still can't completely stop himself from insulting the Steelers (he has to throw in that dig about how the poor Steelers aren't known by the moniker "America's Team"), but believe me, compared to his other posts he's being a veritable Gandhi now. ATA, don't you think that the more non-contentious approach would be better when discussing football? Especially when you are determined to post your sentiments on Pittsburgh message boards? DallasFan77 isn't the first Cowboy fan that's suggested they don't agree with you and you should tone it down. Doesn't that say something to you? What can you gain through unbridled hate?

Hmm. I'm feeling a little like Gandhi myself.

Well you have to be from Texas and be a or have been a Cowboy fan to understand. Steelers are the best team in NFL history, that's a fact (6, count them 6 Super Bowl wins) The Cowboys are a close second but not alone. Case closed on that subject.

Not to sure when it acutally happened but my guess is Tom Landry was one of the or main reason the Cowboy's were labeled America's team. Your average American Joe and Josephine who made up the majority of our country back were God fearing and liked the way he carried himself on and off the field. There were many a player who also fit this image. I've seen stats on the sale of NFL team logo and Dallas has topped the market for many years.

Once JJ took over things started to slip some what but they had the Amercia's team label. Jimmy Johnson shaped and molded the team in the champs of the 90's. When he parted way's things went south but they still had the lable and marketing was also almost a number 1 priority. JJ is a good business man but he sucks as a wanna be coach and GM. Yet the lable is still there?

You both have good points however the bottom line is they will probably always have the Amercia team lable and outsell all other teams.

If JJ can lossen the choke hold he has had on the team and let it be coached by a good coach maybe they can return to the glory days.

Texas dude

The Terrible Towel is Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

Steeler fan: "It actually makes the visiting players sick when they look at all of them flying around in circles."

Wow they are so ridiculous, jealousy of the Cowboys stature in football irks them so bad they get on sites like this pleading for America to love them.

"But we have 6 trophies" So what? You still get overshadowed by a team that didnt even make the playoffs. Notice right after your victory parade ESPN and SI stopped talking about you? If they did it is how the refs blew the game and Big Ben is lucky to have 2 rings.

Steelers fans are just jealous they aren't as popular with the national media and it is pathetic

oh ok... let's pretend dallas is a GREAT team. great coaches, great QB, a team that has a great history of winning in Dec and Jan, yes Jan, since they have been in so may playoff games the last 10 yrs. yes, everything is wonderful in valley ranch. GET REAL!!!!!!!!! i'm a fan too, but right now they are way off from being a good team. just because you love them doesn't mean you have to pretend they are a good team. use your heads guys.

Ha ha, this TTR guy cracks me up. Pittsburgh fans are jealous of the Cowboys popularity? "Yeah, screw the Steelers' recent accomplishments, we'd give them all away if the media would just give us a little more attention like Dallas." "I'd trade the SB43 title in two seconds for more love from ESPN and SI." "As a matter of fact, we'd give away our last TWO titles in exchange for more attention and twelve straight seasons with no goddam playoffs!"

But in the end, it's all wishful thinking. Sigh. I guess we'll just have to wipe away our tears and be satisfied with being six-time champions.

HAHAHAHA! TTR, keep telling yourself that Steelers fans feel this way--you may even believe it one day! Till then, thanks for the entertainment, its kind of cool to have haters as buttsore as you.

March 12, 2009  07:09 PM ET

Aaahhh, yeah. FYI-The Cowboys were called "America's Team" by NFL Films, WHY? Because at the time they had the largest TV viewership for their games. The Cowboys year in and year out, 5-11 season or 13-3 season, outsell the majority of the other NFL franchises in merchandise.

BTW- Pittsburgh fans have for the majority of the franchise's history enjoyed many, many, bad seasons. If you were to Prorate winning seasons vs. losing seasons the Cowboys kick their terrible towel waving @$$.

March 12, 2009  11:39 PM ET

The Cowboys should be called "South Americas Team." Half of their fans don't even speak english. I see tons of Cowboy jerseys on my vacations to Mexico. "Los Vaqueros De Dallas." Nice ring to it. The Cowboys get a lot of press time on ESPN and SI for the sports soap opera that they are. They can keep any moniker they like. I'll stick to my Steelers and let them do their talking on the field. It's not about who their dating or how the QB and TE can't along with T.O. and that's why they can't win. Stop making excuses for being the overrated underachievers that they are. Oh, btw, lets see what the Cowboys record will be when they have 76 seasons of NFL play in the record books. The way they're going it won't be as good as the Steelers.

Free Pound Cake. Talk about idiots. Did I strike a nerve? Maybe if you quit being jealous and stop being a hater your team might start to win. You really don't have anything good to say about the Cowboys because they is nothing good about them. So you'll bash all the other teams; especially those that are doing better like the SIX TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Maybe you should become a Raider fan. You appear to be at their level.

I sure don't agree with him.

Wait til ATA sends you personal notes to your profile site.........if he hasn't already....ATA says a "real fan" don't insult their owners...Jerry Jones is NOT my owner. He may own the Cowboys, but he don't own me. Last time I looked I still had the freedom of speech.

The only competition I care about , is on the field. Who gives a crap who outsells who in merchandise??? It benefits me none at all. Only thing about the Cowboys that concerns me, is for them to make the playoffs and win a SB. Jersey sales, and all that, go into Jones's pocket, not ours.

A real Cowboy fan, or any real fan of any team for that matter, won't get into a war of words to where it escalates into a virtual fight. If they do as some of these here, then they undoubtedly are immature and cannot carry on any decent discussion with any opposing fans at all. Real fans can talk, and pick and carry on without getting into heated discussions about their teams.

Free Pound Cake and ATA are not real fans. When I run across one of these people, I either ignore them, baffle them with bulls**t, or blind them with brilliance. Never stoop down to their level and play their game. They want you guys to get PO'd. They sit there and laugh because you fell for it.

You guys can do as you wish and play their games, but I've shut ATA up twice when he sent me personal messages. I will continue to do so.
But, I don't get into a battle of wits with someone who is obviously unarmed.

If no one comments on their thing, they will eventually go away. Just a suggestion.

I see lots of Amish at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Does that mean the Steelers are Amish America's team?
