NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Who should play for the national title?
December 1, 2013, 03:35 PM
This year, we'll have 2 teams. FSU is unbeaten and everyone says they've passed the eye test. People are questioning OSU because of their opponents. But let's pause for a second and think. FSU demolished Clemson, how good is Clemson really???? Clemson just got beat by 2 loss South Carolina, Clemson also barely beat 4 loss Georgia who is now I believe unranked, they also lost by 40+ points at home to FSU. I think losing by that much has to also reflect on the losing team being that bad, not just the winning team being that good. Ohio State is getting ready to play Michigan State who has the nation's #1 defense, and they are a 1 loss team. I'm just saying that the seemingly huge gap between FSU and OSU's opponents is not big at all, I give FSU a minor edge. FSU beat Miami by alot, FSU fans say that was another victory against a top 10 team "at the time", only problem is that Miami went on to lose by 14+ points to Virgnia Tech and Duke in Miami's next 2 games. FSU beat Florida, but Florida is worse than most of the big ten. FSU best win was against a 2 loss clemson team. if ohio state beats michigan state, ohio state can say their best win was against a 2 loss team (at the end of the season). I'm just saying, FSU's schedule has not been that hard. Let's quit pretending like FSU's opponents (2 loss clemson, 3 loss miami, 5 loss florida) have been alot better than OSU's opponents. FSU will be playing Duke for the ACC Championship game, Duke has never won 10 games, OSU is playing Michigan State for the Big Ten championship, again, MSU has the #1 defense. How many players right now on Duke's roster will play in the NFL? How many players for MSU will play in the NFL? The fact is that these teams have played very identical strength of schedules. The fact is also that the top 7 or 8 teams this year in college football could also potentially win the BCS national title. I think 2 loss Stanford could beat anyone. I think Baylor could beat anyone. Point is the gap is not that big and all of these teams are great. It's just a messed up system. College Football needs a 8 team playoff, 4 teams is a good start but every year there will be 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 teams that people think are as good as the top 4 but they won't receive a chance to prove it.

For someone from Florida you make a lot of sense. Agree 100% with you. Let me echo a couple of your points and then answer the question to your thread (who should play).
First of all SOS and computer rankings are formulas that start with a baseline. Any statistician worth his weight in T-squares can create the answer he wants statistically by providing the "correct" information.
The variations produced by Sagarin and the computers are laughable. Gimme the humans all day long.
Second, I am with you on the body of work comparison betw FSU and tOSU. What I will give FSU, is that they have been more efficient and thorough in their 12-0 run than we have been in ours'. I attribute that to the fact that they have a better defense than we do and that is why they will be the favorite should the two teams meet.

Lastly, I will say that Bama is the best team but hey they lost so they are out. <hit happens and in a two game scenario with two undefeateds from AQ Conf you are going to be left out.

If it were next yr my four teams would be:
1. FSU
2. OSU
3. Missouri
4. Bama

As it is it is FSU vs Ohio St.

I've not heard a single FSU fan claim that we've played a tough schedule. We haven't. But you are KIDDING YOURSELF if you think Stanford could beat us. We'd beat Stanford ****. We're the real deal, and we're out to prove it! We're going to Pasadena to take what is OURS!

Who should play for the national title?

Bama vs Aubie

Because Bama deserves a mulligan just like they got after LSU beat them the first time two years ago.

LOL it was with a slight degree of schadenfreude that I watched Satan's post game presser.

Not sure how we got to be "5 loss Florida", since it's a wee bit higher number than that.

I'd wait until after the Spartan game before doing your chest-pumping.

THE OSU had one of the weakest schedules in the country. But you did make a statement on Saturday against Michigan:

Beating a 7-5 team by a point always evokes fear in the mind of men.

I think this would be one of the more compelling games were it possible. With an uncertain outcome. FSU has a great team this year, but I don't think you'd win against Stanford going away--if you'd even win at all. Heck, you may not win going away against Ohio State.

Worry about the Dukies first. Looking ahead is the kiss of death.

We've had a bit of turmoil lately, but we seem to be maintaining focus just fine. I don't see us suddenly falling apart against Duke.

We've won 12 games. One of those wins was by just 2 TD's. The other 11 wins were all by at least 4 TD's. Our schedule isn't THAT bad, and we're not THAT lucky. What do we have to do to convince people that we are, like it or not, the best team in the nation?!

Even after Jimbo hoists the crystal, there will STILL be legions of fans saying, "They wouldn't have won if they'd had to play (Stanford, Sparty, ANY team from the SEC, etc...) !!!" I feel like we've somehow become the Rodney Dangerfield of CFB, I tell ya!

I won't be one of those fans. If FSU wins out they will deserve the trophy and the title. The only evidence you need is 13-0. "If only" don't mean squat. But there's no reason for you to play the "no respect" card. FSU gets plenty of well deserved respect.

I hope you don't think my comment was dissing FSU. I'm not. But you're not 13-0 yet, and they don't play the games on paper. Don't overlook Duke. Good teams lose to inferior opponents all the time.

I hear what you're saying. I'm not trying to dis Duke. Just call 'em like I see 'em. Is it possible Duke could beat us? Of course it is. It is, however, EXTREMELY unlikely, IMO. Barring one of the biggest upsets in CFB history, we're going to Pasadena.

Just my two cents...

EWO, get used to it cuz that will be all you will here. No one, online anyhow, will let you enjoy your moment. Haters gonna hate dude. I see it more from the SEC fans than others but all conferences and teams have their offenders.

That being said the Tree guy offered some good advice. "don't look ahead".

The thought just hit me this morning, BB, that maybe the Bucks (if this is possible) may have looked ahead of TSUN towards the CCG with Sparty. I mention this not to diminish the importance of the rivalry game, but to try and make sense of the closeness of The Game when it shouldn't have been that close.

If that's the case, then the TSUN game was indeed a wake-up call. OK, off for more coffee. Later.

Not possible. This game is circled on the calendar every year before the season starts.

I believe that two teams should participate in the final BCS NCG. Frankly, I cannot see having more than two teams on the field at the same time. It would be chaos, not football.

That's what I was thinking.

Assuming Ohio St. and Florida St. take care of business in their CCGs, then they should play. The spots will be well deserved. I do think its a shame, though, that in this scenario the best victory between the two finalists over the SEC conference of gods is FSU's over a down-trodden Florida. I'd like to see someone beat the SEC's champ, and so I'm rooting for one of the undefeateds to go down in its CCG.

If one of them loses, then the SEC champ (Auburn/Mizzou) should play. If they both lose, I'm guessing Alabama gets another mulligan and we see another all-SEC NCG <aaak!>, but I would give the spot to the PAC 12 Champ (AZ St./Stanford).

If it were next yr my four teams would be:
1. FSU
2. OSU
3. Missouri
4. Bama

THE OSU ('please always put the definitive article first, otherwise Woody Daze will haunt you and punch you in the face before retiriing)
FSU: The QB is a rapist.
Missouri/Bama: We are all tired of seeing the 'Gawd Almighty' SEC strutting its feathers.

My solution: Cancel the game this year.
