NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > IF we had the 4 team playoff, who you got?
December 9, 2013, 11:14 PM
Ok, for those of you that don???t know. I???m a ACC guy, and I???m glad that FSU is back on the good side of things under Jimbo, who I saw at LSU for years. I???m also glad to see Clemson doing well.
Duke, Well, F* Duke.
Auburn deserves the second spot. The SEC champion should be in the title game period anyway, and it should be an excellent end of the BCS era.
That being said. I wanted Ohio State in there. I want the ACC to be the one to end the reign of the SEC. I wanted to see the ACC in there doing work.

I was worried that OSU was going to pull a BCS and lose, and they did. Urban Myer has not faced ANY top ten teams at Ohio State, and while its not his fault that his conference SUCKS. I will admit that Ohio State is the FAR easier team to win and give the ACC the last BCS title, but lets be honest, that???s like holding the heavyweight title cause Ali is in Jail.

So lets pretend that this was next year, who deserves the 3rd and 4th spot?

Lets address the issue of BAMA.

Alabama was the second best team in the best division in the best conference. Anyone that says different is either a fan of another top 10 team or simply an idiot. Bama was a tiebreak away from facing FSU. LSU is third in the West, and still ranked 16th.

So Bama is not only deserving of a spot, but the third seed overall. I can see Oregon fussing about what about us, but you lost to not only Stanford, who I???ll get to in a minute, but Arizona (who is 7-5) by a ton. Same for Ohio State- you play in a suck conference, you didn???t go undefeated, neither did the MAAC champion, so go away.So no, go away.

So lets look at the champions.

Here is how I look at the resume???s

1. Its a season. Not a progression. A Loss in week 1 counts as much as in week 11.

2. Losses at home count more than a neutral site loss that, in turn counts more than a loss on the road.

3. I???m counting ranking when they played.

Like JD said there is another thread where everyone has posted and discussed this very topic so I won't bother here to go back over my thoughts here as I have already discussed the topic ad nauseum.

But why don't you and I have a side bar conversation on the ACC vs the Big Ten. I see you're so tall and mighty talkin up your big conf. What's that all about? FSU (who is the best team in the country) played a weaker SOS than Ohio State. Bethune Cookman and Idaho WOW that's impressive.

There were only two games between B1G & ACC this yr. Northwestern @ Syracuse and Syracuse @ Penn ST. Syracuse got beat badly in both games. Syracuse finished 4-4, right in the middle of your league. The 2 Big Ten teams had a combined 4-12 record in B1G. Since there was so little competition we sent one of our "little brothers" from the MAC (Ball St) down to Charlottesville to beat down Virginia 48-27.

So let's see the #2 team in the B1G is going to play the #2 team from the Atlantic Cupcake Conference ......Ohio State against Clemson. You willing to put your money where your big mouth is? This game will not be close.

Btw, and I don't generally subscribe to computer polls, but I have'nt seen any of hte computers rating your conference over the B1G this yr.

Since you were on a roll, I was anticipating the Stanford insults, too. Care to elaborate?

Hey Buff, hows about I give it a shot?

Sparty is going to de-pants the Cardinal, pee on the Tree during the weirdo halftime show and then at the obligatory end of game handshake, Dantonio rolls Shaw's knuckles!

Great effort. Nice to see you'll step in when a spot needs to be filled.

"Alabama was the second best team in the best division in the best conference. Anyone that says different is either a fan of another top 10 team or simply an idiot."

Well, I'm not a PAC 12 homer so I guess I'm an idiot. I'd have to say, top to bottom, the PAC 12 was the best conference this year. And I don't buy into the 100% correct theory of polls so using those is worthless IMHO.

I'm gonna say the SECw and PAC12n are too close to call as far as divisions go... with a slight edge going to the SECw because they have 7 teams. Bottom dwellers Cal and Arky cancel each other out so the remaining SECw 6>PAC12n.

And, Sparty gets into a playoff over tOSU if I were king. They beat 'em head to head.

What they ^ said... except of course tGB, who was just filling in for you, and peas on trees himself so it is not a real hurtfull thing in his eyes anyway...

I also agree with DC about.... no, not the PAC, about Sparty getting in. In my final ballot:
1. FSU
2. Bama (just kidding, they didn't even win the West.) Actually => Auburn
3. Sparty
4. Tree Peeps or Baylor... a coin flip.

I have a hard time with either the Trees or Baylor UTF which bothers me cuz I really like both of them. I'm afraid they'd throw a clunker in the playoffs like they did against Utah and Okie Lite. That said, it is hard to overlook the ND clunker Sparty had too. I may be a little harsh on the clunkers because some teams have one against a crappy opponent and it isn't as punishing.

December 10, 2013  05:31 PM ET

1. FSU - Obvious reasons

2. Auburn - Equal footing with FSU for team playing their best football right now

3. Michigan State - SOS is weak, but all 12 wins were by more than a TD.

4. Alabama -

I want to stick Baylor or Stanford here because they are conference champs, but I would be out of mind if I did. Baylor's lone loss was a blowout and Stanford has two losses. The selection committee would rank Bama's loss better than Baylor and Stanford's. This way of thinking falls in-line with the selection committee for the NCAA Tournament in basketball.

This would be an incredible set up if it was a reality. FSU versus Bama would be a National Championship matchup before the actual National Championship matchup.

I agree DC. I am some what a SEC homer and I think top to bottom the Pac 12 is better. And the scary part thing, they will get better.
What goes around comes around. I think the SEC is on the goes around side now. The east is in a shambles and the west isn't too far behind. Auburn and maybe bama will prove otherwise next season. The pac 12 is on the comes around side. They are good this season and should be better next season. Should be plenty of cannon fodder for the offseason!

Agree here as well...these things are cyclical and the SEC cycle is about over...and looks like 12PAC is next in the barrel.

Which often happens in the NCAA Tournament..plenty of times one of the Semi-Finals has the two best teams playing and the final Championship is more of a let down..

I do agree it is cyclical but I'm not too sure the SEC goes too far down. The PAC 12 just happened to be very deep this year as shown in Wazzou losing at the SEC champ by only 7 and they finished 5th in the PAC12 North. Just too much talent and resources in the SEC for them to drop very far. Yeah, the East is a wreck because of Florida, Tennessee and Georgia...mainly the first two. But some that were not thought to be good are improving, i.e. Ole Miss, Vandy, Mizzou. And even though I gig the aggies, I think Sumlin will continue to improve them...if he stays.

But overall conference, I give it to the PAC12 this year.

December 10, 2013  10:15 PM ET

I give it to the SEC but probably too close to call with certainty. Definitely got closer when Georgia and LSU lost their qb's at the end of the season. Its a shame these two conferences don't play more often. They have been the two strongest conferences for the past 8 years.

We gotta get those loser semifinalists outta the final and put those best teams in instead. Since we shouldn't hold to hard rules like a championship requirement, why should we put up with inferior bracket winners in the men's bball final?

Bah, next year CFB will be the MWC's world and everyone else will just be living in it...

I started to make a long post about the history of the BBall tourney but decided any point I was going to make comparing our college football with the NCAA BBall tourney was ultimately so apples to oranges that it would just muddy up the discussion. Just no real comparison between the situations in these two sports.

I'll let you hard rule pushers reside in peace.
