NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Chicago Bears off season 2014. What do we do to improve the team? Who do we let go?
December 29, 2013, 11:06 PM
That's it in a nutshell. Who do we let go to improve the team? Surely not Cutler. Is anyone else on the Offensive side even to be considered? Would it be fair to replace Cutler when he has just had ONE season under the new OC and Coaching Guru Trestman? Surely McCown is NOT the answer even if he did have a good string of wins for us.

Honestly the rest of the offense is pretty good but I think we need at LEAST one if not TWO fast WR's to play slot. And we could use a backup lineman or two and maybe a dynamic RB to give Forte a break.

On defense how about Peppers? He is one of the highest paid players on the team and his production fell off dramatically. Also on the Defensive Line there's Henry Melton who missed almost the entire year? The Bears led the league in the fewest sacks of the opponent. So is anyone on the DL safe?

Charles Tillman is getting older, but while we are talking about the DB's how about improving the Safety positions? In my mind only Jennings is a for sure keeper in the entire DBs!!! Not one of the others proved that they can stop anything, Pass or Run!! But would another year in the new system improve the Safety play?

Linebacker was a terrible travesty this year for the Bears. It was a JOKE. Considering Lance Brigg's health, NOT ONE of the 3 positions can be considered to be a solution. Did the two rookies prove themselves either way?

On Special teams we MUST get a punter. I think several games were lost due to the horrible punting. That was disgusting at the BEST!

I trust in Mark Trestman and Phil Emery to do the right things. I expect the Bears to be BETTER next year and make the playoffs. They might even surprise a team or two and get to the NFC Championship. But the Super Bowl in my mind is two years at LEAST away.

So what do you think? What should we do? At least we will be picking in front of the Packers unless they trade up. GO BEARS!!!

Win or lose? It was a close game for both teams. Sorry, BF.

I do not trust Trestman or Emery...Emery's decision to not sign Urlacher is the reason for 8-8.
Brian Urlacher would never allow his team to be 32nd against the run.

Poor coaching cost us 2 or 3 wins this year...and any one of those mistakes would have won the division.

I believe they need to improve this offseason is the safety position. Chris Conte needs to go because he can not tackle all season. Major Wright is always out of position. Other areas I believe is Julius peppers should retire. Draft a corner in the second round for Tillman age. All there areas of improvement they need are on the defense side of the ball couldn't stop the run. Couldn't even hit the Qb this season. Very disappointing.

Hey, be happy they finished 8-8 with that crappy defense.

What surprised me was a live ball on the ground that GB picked up and ran in for a TD with Players just standing around, that was the major straw.

One of my best friends is a Bears fan. He is crushed and didn't even go to work today. My friends and I take our Football serious LOL. If the Colts lose to KC I will still show up for work though ;-) but we all know Andrew isn't losing at home.

Assuming that the Bears are targeting a super bowl run about three years form now can you name me one current defensive player that you would want on that team. Realizing that they need 10-11 new defensive players may be best to resign Cutler and trade him for 3 or 4 draft picks to use on rebuilding the defense and a young quarterback who will be ready in 2-3 years.

I agree about Jay though, but doubt you'll get anything from his as a URFA, I'd take that #2 QB As he shows promise and get some Defensive players DE-T-S/DB, OLMen desperately needed, at least 2. And a RB hybrid RB like Gio Bernard too help Forte, .and a TE-WR.

They gave up a TD on a 4th and 8 that decided the game... Rodgers made a great throw...

The Bears defense is really going to have to hit the weight room and film room this off season. Every defensive player can use 10 to 20 pounds of muscle on their body and must know what their jobs are!!! Especially Shea McClellen, Major Wright, and Chris Conte!!!

While they are at it throw in the two rookie LBs too! However with both of them I think most of it is mental and not physical. At least right now. Sure 10 to 20 lbs of muscle would help both of them too.

It wouldn't hurt to get at least a defensive lineman or two in the offseason too!

Now lets look at just how much can Emery, Trestman and maybe a change at Def Co-ordinator make the Bears into a better team in 2014?

I will say this much for the offense, we need two players there!!! Yes TWO!!! A super fast/quick slot man who might be our #1 draft choice like Percy Harvin, and a FullBack!!! A man who can block, catch, and RUN when we need him to do just that!

My last thing to wonder about and it actually might be the most important, is how many games could have been won if we had an effective PUNTER???

Really this guy wasn't bad, he was horrible!!!! In some ways, I look at him as the #1 disappointment of the year! He EASILY lost us 2 or 3 games!!!! How many times did we punt from the 30 yard line and the opponent started at the 50!!!! Come on!!! We need to replace that bum yesterday!!!! GO BEARS!!!

I look all around at this team and really, I think that they had so many MORE problems to solve and correct last year than they do this off season. Remember Offense is harder to solve than defense. Injuries were our biggest problem on defense too! So just how far do we have to go?

Add in the UNPROVEN coach and GM etc. and we really have come a LONG way in just one year. Oh sure it would have been nice to go to the playoffs, but which would you rather have, the higher draft choice or a one and out post season?

Go BEARS!!!

No excuse for how poorly he was punting. This one to me was a no brainer and Emery should Have replaced him after the Steelers game!!! Go BEARS!!!

The Bears fired two coaches today Tim Tibesar & Mike Phair as scapegoats for the poor showing of the defense...What a crock of crap, they need to change scheme and start all over and fire all of them. Letting Mel Tucker stay, is as bad as bringing Lovie Smith back, Mel Tucker and all proponents of the Cover Two need to be fired.

BGDUECE it's a matter of physics and latitude. As long as Chicago has the weather it has, (Latitude), opponents will need to run the ball more. As long as people run the ball more, you put the Beef/muscle on the Defensive line. Thus a 4/3 defense. Don't you remember how Walter and the Bears drooled when they played a 3/4 defense? A 3/4 defense can be run on. Period!!!

Really it's as simple as that. This philosophy as long as Chicago doesn't have a dome and plays outside is what will win more games for the Bears than a 3/4 Defense. GO BEARS!!!
