NFL  > General NFL  > Super Bowl played in the elements will be learning experince for Goodell
January 22, 2014, 12:04 PM
Roger Goodell has yet to check the weather forecast for SB XLVIII. He says it's too early to have an accurate forecast and, really, there's nothing he or anyone else can do at this point. Welcome to New York Super Bowl patrons.

???we have a whole group of people that are getting the best information, have the right team together, to make sure we have appropriate information at the right time," Goodell said. "There's nothing I can do about that. Our team has been working to be prepared for all alternatives and I'm confident they will be."

It makes perfect sense that Goodell would like a Super Bowl played in the country's largest media market. It would also make sense that you would want to cater to the fans that spend thousands of dollars to attend your sports biggest event and are the driving force behind the popularity of Goodell's money-making machine called the NFL.

It's good reputation management to say "the game was meant to be played in the elements" and "we're prepared for everything." But, when fans are hoping the Super Bowl isn't played in New York for another 50 years, that's probably a cue to move the show under a roof or where the sun shines a little brighter.

If MetLife Stadium had a dome over its head, I'm curious to how much that would change public perception of the Super Bowl being played in New York.

Who knows? After next Sunday, Goodell may use his bottomless NFL money-bag to get a dome stadium built in NYC.

I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks? I know that for me, from my living room here in California, it's gonna be fun to watch the Seahawks pound the Broncos in a 25-30 mph wind-driven blizzard!

it's well established that Peyton shrinks in big games in that kind of weather. SWEET!!!!

I didn't know that Goodell can learn anything.

I sure wish bad weather will be enough to put our Hawks over the top, but we have to play in the same crap they do; and we like to throw the ball occasionally too, ya know. I'm thrilled we're back, but I also know that the Powers that be, want Denver; every bit as much or more, than they wanted Pittsburgh the last time we were there. Seattle has to beat the Broncos and, the Refs almost constant efforts to thwart us, in order for us to pull this off! GO SEAHAWKS!!

We will see? and actually saying Peyton shrinks in big games is overblown. In AFC Title Games he's 3-1, and 2-1 vs Tom and 1-1 in SB's with his Title. You do know your hero has lost 2 SB's to Eli and 2 AFC Title Games vs Peyton so it's not like Tom hasn't shrank either in big games. He is 18-8 in the Playoffs I will give you that but only 8-8 since 2005 with no Titles.

It's not overblown as I qualified it with the weather conditions. Thank you!

That wasn't a knock against Tom as to me he is a Top 5 QB ever, I just think the Peyton choking thing gets overblown and my Post was more of pointing out all QB's have shrank at times and quite a bit. Peyton has won a ton of big games, 3 AFC Title Games and a SB + several big Regular Season games as well to clinch Divisons and in the cold, etc.. a lot of losses by a lot of these QB's aren't even their fault. QB's like Marino, Tarkenton, Kelly, Fouts have had some great games in the Playoffs but their teams still lost and those guys are Ringless. So if Peyton throws for 330 and 3 TD"s and no picks but if Denver losses did he shrank? Ben played the worst SB in history against the Seahawks but his team won and to most he's Clutch?? Kind of wrong thinking IMO. Everyone needs help to win these SB's. If Peyton's Defense gets him Turnovers he will win, if not than his team probably loses. In 2009 against the Saints the Colts Defense didn't get 1 Turnover and Brees torched the Colt Defense and not only that the SPTeams gave up an OnSide Kick and missed a FG but all people remember is Peyton's pick. In reality it should've never came to that if Peyton's team would've helped just a little.

Ben is concidered cluth because of what he did in the SB against the Cardinals and all his fourth quarter comeback from behind wins. Not just cause the Steelers beat Seattle in the SB.

I kind of hope the weather is sort of bad and Peyton can pull it out as that would make Peyton look pretty good. I really don't have a horse in this race as Indy isn't in it but I still want to see Peyton win. If Seattle wins they will prove to be the better team then and Peyton will be stuck on his 1 Ring. It should be a great game.
