NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Scott Linnehan?

Oh good lord. The guy has never won anything!! I guess that's why he was a good choice of Jerry to be the new play caller as Callahan is kicked to the side. Very strange!

I think it's more promising than strange.
I hear that some see it as Jason Garrett asserting a little increased control over his own staff as he enters a make or break year as head coach. Any time you can wrest anything football related away from JJ, that has GOT to be a positive.
I say let the HC do his job and pick his staff. That's what the Boys fans keep shouting.

I agree, 100%.

And obviously the Monte Kiffin reassignment is a bit of the same, as well as something I think all Cowboys fans hoped would happen.

As a Fan, I'm close to throwing in the towel on this Jerrah lead franchise.

January 29, 2014  06:33 AM ET

Promising? I see this whole set up as a disaster. What Garrett really wanted was for him to get the playcalling duties back, not shuffle it off to another guy and a new one to the team at that! Whatever Garrett says are JJ's words so of course he's going to put a positive spin on this. It will be shocking if that team does better than 6-10 especially given their schedule.

He isn't the head coach TX.

I didn't say he was. I said he is the new play caller for the offense. My point was he has never been on a winning team.

Seeing how Linnehan's play calling was partly to blame for the Lions demise this season it seems like a great hire by Jerry <sarcasm>.

I found it to be very satisfying

That says a lot about the futility of the hiring.

The Sherrington article this morning (DMN) was intriguing in pointing out the possibilty that this is Garrett's last chance to succeed and so he has more of "his guys" in places and roles of responsibility. Where Callahan was a "Jerry" hire, Linehan is clearly a "Jason" pick. Gonna make for some "interesting" dynamics going forward.

Still - as long as the defense remains with the current "usual suspects" in the lineup, there will be no improvement in the W/L ratio. If the Cowboys are going to see any improvement going into 2014, it has to happen on that side of the football. And - it doesn't matter if Marinelli or Kiffin is the DC.

Tom Landry couldn't coach up that bunch of scrubs.

In his day, Tom could have coached the "Little Sisters of the Poor" into a winning D.

But then he was from the old school where coaches were respected and feared. And his expectations were higher than "just keep improving" and "500 ball". He didn't achieve all those winning seasons by settling for mediocrity.

Dysfunction will reign supreme. Where else has there ever been an OC that did not call the plays? But you are absolutely correct in that the defense will take the team to wherever their final destination is...most likely last place as bad as that D is going to be.

January 29, 2014  02:51 PM ET

and btw...Linnehan is considered a 'pass happy' play caller, which is the last thing they need.
