NFL  > Kansas City Chiefs  > Matt Cassell to the Chiefs
February 28, 2009, 01:35 PM
Just heard that the Chiefs and Pats pulled off the Cassell trade. Also heard the Chiefs gave up Waters for him. Does anyone know if this is true?
February 28, 2009  01:55 PM ET

I heard it was for this years first and a three next year.It hasnt been offically disclosed yet. It would make sense because If the Pats have the third overall then they would be targeting aaron curry which also makes sense due to the vrabel trade.

Now Im hearing it was a second round pick with a sliding pick next year. Should no for sure in a little bit.

February 28, 2009  02:15 PM ET

Chiefs gave up their 2nd round pick 34th overall for both Cassel and Vrabel.

February 28, 2009  02:19 PM ET

Now do the Chiefs take Crabtree or one of the stud OT's at #3??????

February 28, 2009  02:20 PM ET

all we have heard is just a second round pick. but i see Gonzales and johnson both staying, and waters too!

February 28, 2009  02:21 PM ET

all we have heard here is just a second round pick. but id bet that Gonzales, Johnson, and Waters all stay now!

February 28, 2009  02:22 PM ET

and Arron Curry will be the CHIEFS #3 pick in the draft!

February 28, 2009  02:25 PM ET

ok that may be. There is def. more to this trade.

February 28, 2009  02:30 PM ET

And for the record.... I still personally beleive that Curry is going one to the Lions.

February 28, 2009  02:36 PM ET

Chiefs website report 2nd round pick for both. Now we need some D help

February 28, 2009  02:51 PM ET

Chiefs fans should be pretty stoked. Vrabel is D help btw. That guy is still a great player.Just a little slow. I mean he has caught 8 Touchdowns and he is a linebacker. Guy can play everywhere.

February 28, 2009  03:04 PM ET

WOW, Belichick really did a solid for his old friend Pioli, a 2nd rd pick for both Cassel and Vrabel?? I know that Vrabel isnt a very good anymore but his leadership is priceless. Matt Shaub cost the Texans 2 second round picks. I say that the chiefs need to snag Crabtree with #3, What better way for Todd Haley to continue his success on the offensive side of the ball than with a Fitzgerald clone. Crabtree and Bowe is a pretty good WR combo. Or use #3 on an elite OT to protect Cassel.

February 28, 2009  03:39 PM ET

curry will be the better pick over crabtree. who better than Vrabel to teach Curry?????

i see the second coming of DT!!!!!!!!! IN AC

February 28, 2009  03:40 PM ET

also as a possibility....how bout a Bowe Houshy combo for Cassel????

February 28, 2009  09:26 PM ET

If Curry is there The Chiefs should take him, if not then they should take Arakpo. The D needs to be shored up, and they need a speed rush guy. I read that Arakpo was running 4.58 40's in training for the combine... at his weight that is AWESOME.

Yes the D needs major attention, but espically with Todd Haley running the show and the new franchise QB in Cassel, you want your O to be as productive as possible to not only show improvement but that this offseason was a success and not a failure. As far as Housh, im not as high on him as others for the fact that he is not by any means a big play guy, yes he is consistant and catches alot of balls, but he is not known for big plays which is what the Chiefs need. Pick up Crabtree and Marvin Harrison to help groom them both. Remember Kalif Barns is still available as well and he would fit in nicely on the O-line to help protect the Cassel.

I wouldnt be surprised if the Chiefs draft pick is being shopped right now to pick up some extra picks that they just lost.

Jason Whitlock(K.C.Star)wrote an article a few months ago about Texas player being soft, spoiled and just plain unprepared to play at the next level. He says something to the extent that the(Texas) players are treated like rock stars and arent prepared mentally for the NFL grind.Recently ive seen patterns that makes me think this is somewhat true.I dont know if Arakpo will be another highly coveted bust or will buck the trend.I would pass if I was Pioli.
Cedric Benson
Derrick Johnson
Vince Young
Michael Huff
Roy E Williams
Ricky Williams
Shaun Rogers
None of these players have lived up to the hype.

Nope just a 2nd round pic

March 2, 2009  05:09 PM ET

Jason Taylor was released from the Skins.Could he be the next Pioli signing?Could be a Vrabelesque type veteran leader/on the field coach to help the D-line and tide the Chiefs over for maybe a year or two until Jared Allen becomes a free agent again.(Ha thats a joke! Thanks again Carl for running my fav player out of town.)Pioli is familiar with him from the AFC East. That would free up the need to take Arakpo(Bust) and the Chiefs would get Curry in all likelyhood. Thats what I would do if I was at the helm of a billion dollar Madden game.
