Interesting thought...Roy Williams is weak in coverage but has a presence in run defense, in fact he is better than either Bigby or Collins, but Bigby seems to be better with the blitz, so does Collins for that matter. Collins is much improved on his angles in pass defense, and overall is better Bigby and much better Williams. With Rolle, the Pack could continue the experiment with Woodson as as safety, or for added depth in their nickle or dime package. Rolle would never submit to a third DB role (no pun intended) and is too expensive but he would solidfy the DB because Tramon Williams would be the fourth DB. The Pack would have the best secondary in the NFL with Rolle.
I agree they need something. The defensive backfield is one of the worst in the league. they never really replaced their two outstanding backs and teams know this. You pass against the Packers first, run second. I have to admit I kind of like that Bigby. I've seen him knock the helmit off people. He is a hitter but he needs help. Woodson is old and tired and Al Harris is Mr holding penalty. Ya need 25 yards, go deep to anyone Harris is covering.
Disagree. This is a really good set of defensive backs. I'd like a little more depth, but it isn't a priority. It all starts with the defensive front 7 - last year we couldn't stop the run at all, and we seemed to sell out on it a lot. The results always seemed to be either not stopping the run anyways, or getting burned with the pass because of how anxious we were about the run. Once Cullen went down, we had no quarterback pressure either, further complicating matters.
Even if I thought less of our backs, I still wouldn't recommend Roy Williams. His coverage is atrocious, and while he can really hit a guy, his tendecy for the big hit also leads to big misses. Samari Rolle might be able to help, though, but with Jarrett Bush coming back it seems like a moot point.
If we just need depth, why not DRAFT players and have a possibility of finding a gem, possibly an All-Pro? Why waste the money on declining veterans that have careers coming to an end?

New England has strung together a consistantly potent team using older veterans cast away from teams not willing to spend the money or not smart enough to coach them to their strengths.
