What will it take and how long would it take(if ever) for the Buccos to be a contender or even a middle of the pack team?

I remember games at Forbes Field with Clemente and Stargell, with Bob Prince on the radio. The present owner Nutting has a new stadium, good TV revenue, and gets pretty good gate receipts. Fans still go to games (the tickets are cheap)and that is after 18 losing seasons. He is laughing the whole way to the bank, using the Pirates as a farm club. Why would he spend money buying talent, and keeping it ?He owns the Golden goose

Wow.... This is really a good thread with lots of thoughtful stuff in it. In my replay, I really like the underdog Pirates, but they have no pitching at all in 2010. Their record so far is 2-11.
