Soccer  > General Soccer  > The US and Its Chances in the World Cup
March 5, 2009, 12:48 AM
FIFA announced that The US has moved up to the 20 spot in world rankings, previously 23rd. The best position we have been in since January of last year. I guess the match with Mexico turned some heads. Spain is the actual number one contender, but they already won the European Championship Cup, so they probably don???t deserve another championship right now. Germany is still second, followed by the Netherlands, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, England, Russia and Turkey.

With many of our starters now playing abroad, it seems like our young talent and veterans are finally working well together. Can this combo provide the US with enough force and skill to make it to the final game and even more, possibly win? I think we stand a good chance to make a run, don't know how likely it will be to actually win. There are soo many good teams out there with numerous all stars, but hey, the beauty of the tournament is everyone gets a shot. How much of a shot do we really have?
