NFL  > Green Bay Packers  > What would you do if you were TT? Mock drafts/FA Included!
March 5, 2009, 10:11 AM
Pretend you are the Packers GM, Ted Thompson. As of...March 5, 2009 at 9:09 AM (Central time). What would you do in the remaining FA period and in the upcoming April draft? you can list your own GB PAckers 7 round mock draft ( just the packer's choices), draft day trades, player trades, and FA signings. Be creative, but if anybody says they are going to sign T.O., please get off this thread. lol. Have fun.
March 5, 2009  10:15 AM ET

In my 1st act of GM i will sign Khalif Barnes to a 5-year $29.5 million dollar deal.

March 5, 2009  03:03 PM ET

Then, i would release Derrick Frost (unless hes already a FA, i couldnt find it). And sign Punter Chris Hanson to a 2-year $2.8 million dollar contract. (Hanson punted for New England, did pretty good, and has experience in cold weather games.)

March 5, 2009  03:09 PM ET

Next, the PAckers need a true FB, (not a converted LB) to help the running game out. So i would sign Justin Griffith, the ex-raider to a 3-year, $6.4 million dollar deal. (griffith helped the running game out in oakland with justin fargas before he tore his ACL 6 weeks into the season.)

March 5, 2009  03:12 PM ET

Next, to build on the Defensive-line depth, i will sign Dwan Edwards, DT ex-baltimore raven. He is pretty underrated, only 27 years old and had 41 tackles, 1 sack, and even 1 INT for the Ravens last year. thats almost as many tackles as what ryna pickett had last year. a 3-year, $7 million dolalr deal seems like a good bargain.

March 5, 2009  03:15 PM ET

Next, i will sign LB Kevin Burnett away from the cowboys who had a nice year last year backing up DeMarcus Ware. 38 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 2 sacks. Would be a nice complement to Aaron Kampman, and he's only 26. 4-year $17.5 milion dollar deal.

March 5, 2009  03:16 PM ET

I will give up the pursuit of Olshansky, and try to find a DE in the draft.

March 5, 2009  03:21 PM ET

In the draft i will trade with the saints to get the 14th overrall choice and the 112th pick and a 2010 2nd rounder. At the 14th pick i will select Tyson Chandler the DE from LSU. The reason i traded the 9th selection was because nothing was of value there for my need. I think BJ Raji and Brian Orakpo would be gone and im not a fan of Everrete Brown or Vontae Davis. So trade down and collect picks. Plus Jackson is a great end for the 3-4.

March 5, 2009  03:22 PM ET

With the 41st pick in the draft i will select Max Unger, who can play both guard positions and Center. Injuries happen alot in the Packers O-line so this is a great pick.

March 5, 2009  03:24 PM ET

With the 73rd choice i will select Chase Coffman, TE. Great value here at a position of need. The PAckers desperatley need a TE.

March 5, 2009  03:25 PM ET

With the 84th pick the Packers will select Mike Mickens the CB out of Cincinatti. He is a great coverage guy nad just needs to learn next year behind Woodson, Harris, and Tramon. But eventually could take over to become great. The kid kind of reminds me of Al Harris in the bump-and-run.

March 5, 2009  03:27 PM ET

With the 105th pick the Packers will select Ricky Jean-Francois, DT, LSU. Give Tyson Jackson a rookie teammate from his college days. Ricky will bring depth to the O-line.

March 5, 2009  03:28 PM ET

****D-line....excuse me

March 5, 2009  03:29 PM ET

With the 112th pick the Packers will select Scott McKillop, ILB, Pittsburgh. Tackling machine and very durable. Will be Hawk's and Barnett's steady backup.

March 5, 2009  05:51 PM ET

First...Sign Roy Williams to harden up GB's secondary. He's strong against the run and in the right system where the corners can carry the load he can make plays.

Second...Sign Khalif Barnes. I am sure there's a reason that he's still on the market but take a chance on a lineman.

Sign...Dre Bly...he's looking for work and at one point was a really good cover guy...he's still got gas in the tank....besides some extra competition at camp couldn't hurt.

1st Round B.J. Raji...Colin Cole just left so that is probably the biggest hole. Lacking depth on the D-line is not condusive to efficiently running a 3-4.

2nd Round....Clint Sintim...LB/DE...Sensing a theme here? Yeh me too.

3rd Round....Herman Johnson G....Offensive line needs depth

3rd Round....Mike Mickens CB....Our starters aren't getting any younger

4th Round...Lawrence Sidbury DE/OLB....Since you aren't going to take care of it in Free Agency you better have plenty of young guys to pick from

that's as far as I've gotten

March 6, 2009  09:08 AM ET

the only thing about your analysis Rakscout is that Dre Bly was ONCE, i repeat, ONCE a great cover guy. He is also old. I would rather draft a young corner to backup Tramon Williams then an old guy thats finished.

March 6, 2009  03:48 PM ET

take the last train to clarksville, and i will meet you at the station......Dre Bly is old. Might as well go after Chris McAllister...not that it would be better, but knows the 3-4 better than Bly does. I agree with calisfinest. Barnes should be a Packer by the end of this week or TT is dropping the ball massivley.

March 6, 2009  03:51 PM ET

You also have to consider this...does TT want to win now, or alot down the road...and if he wants to win right now...he would have already addressed it in free-agency. This unfortunately isn't a highlight as a Packer fan at this point in the offseason. TT is a low baller, he won't give big contracts.

HE NEEDS TO GIVE THE MONEY TO JENNINGS ALREADY BEFORE HE TURNS INTO A WALKER OR FREEMAN.

March 6, 2009  04:37 PM ET

First of all, If I were TT I should not have a job with the packers. The Packers have the cap room to go after Jason Taylor, a good DE and go after Roy Williams. They need a Safety. Go get him. That is why the Packers will never be a great team after brett. They never sign anybody in free agency. TT's best ever move was signing woodson, and look how that turned out for them. Sign Taylor and Williams. Then draft a DE in first round if the Orakpo is available

March 6, 2009  07:50 PM ET

First they need to sign R. Williams, then Sign Barns. After those 2 are in place then go after J. Taylor to use as DE/OLB and then finally sign V. Holliday. This will give packers a starting defense of Jenkins, Pickett, and Barns. Then on passing downs Holliday can come in for Pickett. Then at Linebackers, Kampman, Barnett, Hawk, and Taylor. Secodary of Harris, Woodson, Williams and Collins. Not a bad lineup. This also will give Packers the freedom to move down in the draft and stockpile draft picks to draft youth for depth on defense and offensive line for the future.
