NFL  > Kansas City Chiefs  > Its quiet... too quiet.
March 8, 2009, 09:05 PM
The Chiefs started off with a bang, trading for their starting quarterback and a leader at linebacker. Unfortulantly, the Chiefs were 2-14 last season and they have holes everywhere. Since making the trade with New England, the Chiefs' only free agent acquisition has been C.J. Jones, a backup wide receiver from the Patriots. So, what gives? Why aren't the Chiefs making more moves? Why haven't we heard more trade rumors? I have a hard time believing that the Chiefs are going to enter the draft without making any other transactions. So... what's next for the Chiefs?

OKC-CHIEFS/ROYALSFAN: My guess is the new coaching staff is still evaluating the current roster.

There comes a time when evaluation needs to turn to action, when the slow, steady plodding of well thought out progress needs to turn into the marauding stampede of putting a plan to work; some people would say (and rightly so) that that time has come...

I think you're seeing that famous wall of silence that has served the Patriots so well. Don't freak out. It'll take time for Pioli and Haley to figure out what they have, what they want and what they'll have to settle for in the interim. Great teams are built one layer at a time and I'm optimistic that Clark Hunt has laid the management foundation for a great team. Of course all this happens after I canceled NFL Sunday Ticket to save some money in '09. Hopefully the economy turns around and the Chiefs make some noise in this year so I can justify the ticket in '10. I'd really like to see a fluke season in '09 or '10 with a run at the playoffs for Tony, but I'm already planning for a trip to Canton to cheer Gonzalez induction.

You do not build teams through free agency. Look at Pittsburgh. The teams that try to buy players are never good. Ask Dallas, Washington or Oakland. The Jets spent a ton last year and didn't make the playoffs. If your in KC, sit tight and be happy they're not spending a ton to try to win this year.

KC picked up a DB today. Don't forget that Clark was on board with building thru the draft, so I'm sure Pioli & Haley are as well, otherwise Clark wouldn't have hired them... Not to mention there is still a month+ of free agengy left, and who knows who will become available... Like maybe... Orlando Pace who was released by the Rams today.

The Chiefs are quiet for a reason - they have had many busts through free agency over the past several years. Pioli is following the NE model in that you don't pay big $ in free agency because you never get a good return for your money. Also, the Chiefs are entertaining the possiblity of trading their #3 pick for a lower 1st round selection and get back the 2nd round pick they gave up for Cassel and Vrabel. They are doing this based on the fact the the Lions will take A. Curry #1 because he is the only player worth taking that high in the draft. Lions will get their o-lineman and QB later in the draft.

I am ok with the quietness at 1 Arrowhead drive!

I upgraded my seats yesterday and am happy to see King carl and hermy gone. Now let Diaper larry go and lets get this thing started.

Clark, Scott and Todd are playing a poker game, and any poker player knows that you have to have a game face and not reveal what you hold in your hand.

I am just happy with the Change at Arrowhead!
