NFL  > Denver Broncos  > Cutler on his way out...
March 15, 2009, 08:12 PM
Perhaps Jay Cutler's problem is like many youth today - a lack of respect for authority! This young man is no different from many who let the $'s go straight to their head. Just because he makes millions, doesn't mean this is his team. I believe Pat Bowlen needs to step in and back up his new coach!

Or, maybe McDaniels is on a power trip, and he made the mistake of **** off his bedrock player because he thinks his Tom Brady-led offense losing in the Super Bowl makes him Bill Walsh.

I disagree whole-heartedly. Jay Cutler was one of the only bright lights of 2008 for the Broncos, and to have to pass 75% of the time due to a terrible defense and lack of a running game and to be shown no appriciation by a new coach who BARELY stepped into the front office, I totally understand why he's upset. Bottom line is, McD messed up. Instead of sitting down with the players or really taking the time to explain what's going on, he just miffed things further and went on an ego trip. He cuts Leach in favor of a Patriot long-snapper, and then he brings in LaMont Jordan even though we have a plethora of better, younger running backs. Basically what's happening is McD is so insecure that he wants people around him that are "yes" men and that he knows, which is also why he tried to get Cassel.

Like the old saying goes: if it's not broken, don't fix it. Why try to trade for a quarterback when you have a standout already? Why cut one of the best long snappers in the league? Why cut Dre Bly but have no one better to replace him?

I think we all know who is at fault here. Sure, Cutler is outspoken, but he always has been and he's got the arm to back it up. All he needs to do is look off his first reciever and he'll be the total package.

Jay Cutler needs to learn a lesson big time... Send him to detroit... Take the #1 pick, go with Jason Smith. Pick a sleeper QB later. Broncs can make the playoffs with Garcia and a solid Def. Cutler will be stuck with in the Motor City where that can't even bebuild a car let alone a football team

Cutler has an arm like your mouth - out of control and inconsistant. Trade him to detroit...he can struggle and perhaps rebuild the car industry if you think he's that great!

People reach positions of authority without earning it. So why blame Cutler.

Tony Dungy has earned respect; McDaniels has not.

how are they suppose to go to the play offs with no quarterback no defense and a amiture coach that has no idea wat hes doing

March 16, 2009  12:44 AM ET

I agree with E-bear and Joe, both...this really seems like McD trying to act how he thinks Belichick would act if he were "challenged" publicly by one of his players. Problem is a)he's not Belichick, success-wise or experience-wise and b)he doesn't have the staff or $$ to back it up, not with the spending spree of late.
So, now you will lose a three year investment with Simms to cover your arses. God bless him, but the guy's thrown TWO passes in three years. Even Garcia won't dig you out because your replacement cast of characters aren't strong enough to cover his flaws...
Bone headed move and ill thought out. Cutler will go to TB, not Detroit, nor NYJ...won't be a better team but a heck of a lot better situation.

LOL..I'm agiants fan and I have more faith the Brocs will make the playoffs than a actual Broncs fan..LOL funny. Dawkins alone helped your def points for his leader ship and locker room pressence... You bring in Letwich, Garcia..who are mobile, should have a healthy back feild.. Eddie Royal is a solid receiver, brandon won't be playing this season at all. With the division they are in, They have a good shot making the playoffs..Without cry baby Cutler

McDaniels groomed Cassel from the get-go. He still wants him.
McDaniels lied to Cutler to begin with when Jay asked him if he were trying to get Cassel. McDaniels said "No" - Cutler feels he can't trust McDaniels to trade him out of nowhere if he wants to. Hence Cutler wants out NOW before he is left holding his pecker in his hand in BFE

March 16, 2009  03:27 AM ET

Cutler said "I'm concerned, he made it clear he wants his own guy. He admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn't sorry about it. He made it clear that he could still entertain trading me because, as he put it, he'll do whatever he feels is in the best interest of the organization."

March 16, 2009  06:33 AM ET

McDaniels is not getting Cassell, there's no way in hell they're trading Cutler inside the division. As entertaining as that would be for someone with no stake in the AFC West, Cutler would pull a Ricky Vaughn, and everytime he'd play against Denver, he'd stick it up their blankin' blank.

Here's what I don't understand...if McDaniels is hard up enough for Cassell, how did he not land him in the first place? There was a deal on the table, and it fell through. If he is set enough on Cassell, or maybe even moreso against Cutler, he would have worked out a deal. All trades go through the agents, ya think if he's really the one behind "raising him from the ground-up" he'd have some serious sway with him.

March 16, 2009  07:36 AM ET

Bowlen has screwed up this team for a long time. He fires a great coach. He replaces him with a coach from the post NE cheating scandal (all those coaches have failed). He signs a bunch of over-the hill veterans in free agency. Now he let`s his on-a-power-trip coach throw his QB under a bus! GOOD LUCK Denver fans! As an outsider ( east coast fan ) this is going to be very sad to watch.

March 16, 2009  09:01 AM ET

Cutler is going to end up with the Cleveland Browns because there is a connection. Denver will either end up with Quinn or Clevelands #5 pick and will take Stafford.

March 16, 2009  09:15 AM ET

I would not want to play for a coach that lied to me either. If your Josh Mcdaniels the first thing that you do during the meeting is say Jay I made a mistake I should have been honest from the start I wanted Matt because he is a better fit. Grow some hair on your balls and dont let your ego stand in the way now your possibly lose the best player on your team.

March 16, 2009  10:26 AM ET

All of you act like you were in the room when all of this happen. The fact of the matter is that Cutler is a whining Bit**, and not a leader on the field! He put his house up for sale even before he talked with McDaniels, so his mind was made up. Get rid of this loser. There are 5 teams in the top ten that would love to have him, and his stock will never get any higher. I say Detroit or Minnesota, since both teams have 2 picks in the first round.

March 16, 2009  10:28 AM ET

Cutler may be a little b*tch but McDaniels screwed up and needs to admit it. He hadn't even met Cutler when he tried to pull that failed trade. Great way to start your coaching debut.

March 16, 2009  10:59 AM ET

All good points! Cutler, as many mentioned, is a whiny little b*tch. He's always been that way. As a Chargers fan I'm fine with all this drama. But at the same time looking at this objectively it is quite sad. I think Cutler could be a good QB in that system but at the same time there seems like there's been too much damage already caused for them to have a good year together. I highly doubt that Cutler even wants to learn this system after "the way he's been treated" and if he does eventually, and reluctantly, learns the system the Broncos will probably have another down year.

Its hard enough on a team to sign one first round pick, let alone two or three, and half of them don't last two seasons, yet get three year deals. Settle for one this year, and possibly one next year.

I think the #1 pick is worth it enough and conditional picks...Like if Detroit acutally wins a game with Cutler than a 3rd round pick next year, if they win 5 games a 2nd round and 8 games a 1st round in next years draft.
