NFL  > Washington Redskins  > Get Cutler
March 21, 2009, 10:02 AM
Well this would be better than acquiring Haynesworth. We have had a chance over the last couple of years to get a good NFL quarterback but have passed on the opportunity.

Jason is a good guy with potential but his progression through the reads is too slow especially for Zorn's west coast offense. His tendencies are a direct relation to his personality, laid back and slow.

Dan Snyder, Vinny Cerato, the oppportunity to trade for a QB with the talent Cutler has does not come around a lot.

Go get him if at all possible !!!

Redkin fan since 1964. He's a Theismann witht the arm of an Elway need I say more.
March 21, 2009  02:15 PM ET

He ah Jeff George, same arm and attitude yo. You ain't no Redbone fan.

March 21, 2009  02:42 PM ET

HAHAHA .... Jeff George was the TO of QB's.
Damned good QB, but gawd what a whiner. Eventually everyone just gave up on him.
Same thing is going to happen when Owens gets released again for for being such an unhappy camper.

March 21, 2009  03:46 PM ET

Yea, I like me Red and he not good fit for the skins.

March 21, 2009  06:37 PM ET

Okay they stick with Campbell and what?? Same ole story no playoffs, more frustration. Just because Cutler's unhappy in Denver doesn't translate into the same scenario in Washington.

About not being a fan. Son I know more about the Redskins and Redskins football than you will ever know. There is no bigger Redskin fan !!!

Not wanting Cutler over Campbell would compare to the Cowboy's saying hey we have Danny White who needs Troy Aikman. Cutler is young and the real deal dummies.

March 21, 2009  08:49 PM ET

Thats a major league turd, son. You make about as much sense as a pig with a comb.

March 22, 2009  09:02 AM ET

At least I have an opinion. What's yours???

March 22, 2009  12:21 PM ET

wait a min campbell improved every year.he knows the system better and anybody who knows football knows that if a qb is failing its bc of offensive line is not blocking for him like they need to so lay off campbell and give him a fair shot its insane how quick people are to turn on your team thats a philly fan not a true REDSKINS fan H.T.T.R 4 EVER

March 22, 2009  05:07 PM ET

It's so funny to hear impatient Redskins fans swear that some QB that did good on one team will be just as good on the Skins. Cutler had an amazing offensive line and an elite receiving corp which made him look great. If he came to the Redskins he would be worse than Campbell. He would have an offensive line that couldn't block a toddler on a Big Wheel and a mediocre group of receivers with no size and would be lost in Jim Zorn's offense. Campbell is a decent QB who keeps getting better every year but it's the offense around him that is lacking. Right now the Redskins are a team in which no QB can really succeed because the right ingredients are not in place. Give Campbell some weapons and if he still doesn't cut it then get someone else but as it is now Cutler won't get the team to where the fans want it to be, no one will. We should be talking about getting offensive linemen and developing the receivers that we drafted not getting new QBs.

He would be an upgrade, but seriously yhis situation confuses me. People were bashing teams for wanting Cassel, b/c "he had great WR's, and only 1 season" but everyone is certain Cutler is a lock, even though he only has 2 full seasons, and had one of the best WR corp's in the NFL... jussayin...

Man Im so feeling what u r saying.....Im like make the trade! It would b great for Campbell, Go ahead give the reins to Cutler.....lol.Let him deal with the inconsistency of Head coaches and and so, so wide recievers. Not to mention the skins are gonna have salary cap issues to get help, cause via Haynesworth. .Campbell is a team guy, a person who doesnt complain, guess u guys didnt see the Heart Campbell has.....Go ahead Skins do what cha do! But watch my shoes!

March 23, 2009  03:10 PM ET

If Campbell hasn't come in to his own in the past 5 yrs he needs to go, and Cutler would be just another waste of money for Snider!!! Who spends to much money on quick fixes that never fixes anything.

Theres no way, quit smoking Meth and come back to the real world

March 25, 2009  12:21 AM ET

You have Colt Brennan you don't need anyone else.

The talk of acquiring Cutler in a trade for Campbell grew old the moment it was started. It ain't gonna happen. Not this year. There are just too many factors against it, and its a bonehead move anyway. As everyone else is saying, this will be Campbell's 2nd year, as well as for Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and Fred Davis. If they step up, as we all hope they will, the office will then need the O-Line to stay healthy and protective all year. Then we will see a team capable of destroying defenses (not every game, but some).

Its also not that our offensive weapons are terrible (Portis, Moss, ARE, Cooley, Thrash, Kelly, Thomas, Davis), but that our offensive line is getting old. While I'm not delusional and expecting a wild year, I do expect something better than 8-8, provided the O-line gets revamped.

March 25, 2009  12:23 PM ET

2nd year in Zorn's Offense, is what I meant.

March 25, 2009  12:30 PM ET

Who in their right mind would trade Cutler for Cambell? STOP IT WITH THIS NONSENSE! CAMBELL SUCKS, CUTLER DOESN'T!

March 25, 2009  08:20 PM ET

Getting Cutler is not a good idea at all. He has a bad attitude, is clearly all about himself, and he simply is not that good. He threw 18 INTs last season behind a very good offensive line (only 11 sacks). How many do you think he will throw behind the Redskins offensive line?
He is not a clutch player (2TDs and 4INTS in his last four games, which the Broncos had to win to make the playoffs) and he performed poorly against top fifteen defenses with a very pedestrian 4TDs and 5INTs and a 1-2 record against Miami, New England and Tampa Bay, the only top 15 defenses he played last season. According to last years stats, at least half of the Redskins 2009 games will be against teams that finished in the Top 10 in defense (including all of the division games the Eagles were 3rd, the Giants were 5th and Dallas was 8th), so Cutler does not seem as good as he first looked for the Redskins. Granted, he has tons of talent, but a lot of quarterbacks who have (Kyle Boller, Vince Young, and Jeff George) did not make it.

Quarterback is a mental position and you need to be a team leader and have a great attitude. Jason Campbell has this, as demonstrated by the fact that he is not remotely complaining about playing with a one year contract and saying that he knows if the team wins, he will be back. Do I think Jason Campbell is as talented as Cutler? No. But he reminds me a lot of a young Steve McNair, who started off with a few 8-8 seasons, and when the team turned around, he led them to the playoffs, and eventually, the Super Bowl.

Campbell is a good teammate and good for the community, he should be given his full chance.

Redskins Fan forever, despite recent misery

If the Broncos trade Cutler to the Skins it would cost something like Campbell, this years first #13, next years, and maybe a backup or late rounder too.

That being said I still don't see the Broncos trading Cutler this offseason.

There have been plenty of QBs who haven't wanted to paly or stay with a team. John Elway and Eli Manning. Both have a won a SB. Plenty of players are unhappy with a team and go to a new team and are just fine. Cutler is an exceptional talent on a team that had a terrible defense. He has every right to be ticked. He set records for a franchise that just had a HOF quarterback and they tried to get rid of him for a QB who had an ok year with two of the most productive receivers in the game. Cassel is an average QB at best and it will show. Cutler would be an awesome fit with the Skins, but they won't get him because it makes sense. They are idiots when it comes to making good moves. I have been a Skins fan for over 20 years and they will never go anywhere with Campbell. But, they will keep him for a few more years and then get rid of him. As long as they have their pathetic management they will always be rebuilding like they have since Snyder took over.

The deal would be Campbell, Cooley, and this years pick. They wouldn't get two number ones for Cutler. Especially with Campbell being a number one. That would essentially be three number ones. Wouldn't happen. Anybody who is truly a Skins fan and watchs games and uses their heads and not their hearts knows Cooley and Campbell are nothing special. Cooley is a hard worker, but will never be a great player. Campbell I would put on the same level as drafting Heath Shuler. Both are terrible QBs.

I agree Campbell is a bust. But how would Cutler be a bust? He is a Pro Bowl QB on a terrible team. Yes, they have an ok offense but nothing special. He is in his prime and one of the top 5 QBs in the NFL.
