Love the idea of the Edwards trade regardless of plax's future...if they can afford it cause they dont have much cap left. He is in the final year of his deal so he might demand a new one, but if there is an uncapped year next year than i believe he would be under team control for two more years. In my opinion i love the trade of the two shockey picks (2nd and 5th) and the compensation pick (3rd) for edwards which still leaves us with a pick in each round.
I believe we are then in position to take the best available player with our first round pick (outside of the obvious QB, DL) if plax is back, but if he is not i still would love a WR if a good one falls. Regardless I agree that OL depth would be great, our luck of no injuries on the o-line wont last forever, and a LB would be nice (even though they have some potential players there to play alongside pierce and boley, with wilkinson, danny clark, and 2nd year players johnathon goff and bryan kehl) but I definetly disagree with needing to move diehl. First off we just payed him LT money and second off he had a very good year and is a very good LT.
One sleeper i would love the giants to get in round one if they are able to pull of the braylon trade or if plax comes back is Brandon Pettigrew. I feel that Boss could be upgraded and Pettigrew is an all around stud. With our abundance of picks i feel we can easily move ahead of atlanta at 24 (where seemingly every mock draft has him going) and grab him
Burress will return. I don't think he'll be the first one time offender to go to Rikers this
time. Look at Pacman etc.
The Giants can't both move up real high and make a big trade - limited funds. The thing
that they can do is to trade up to about fifteen and get Maclin or Oher for positions of
need. I'd rather they take a tackle, because they don't come along too often and the
good ones are gone fast - LT's that is.
And don't forget, Plax has already served four games., costing the SB.
I think Edwards is a great addition. But not if it costs more than the 2nd and 5th that were offered plus hixon. They would be better off drafting someone like Hakeem Nicks in the first. I think that they have enough ammo to trade for an additional 1st rounder that they can use for a linbacker. I think Deihl does a great job at the LT position, but I agree that Mkenzie has some issues with injury. On the 2nd first rounder issue... complete fantasy here but what if... the Jints use thier 2 second rounders and lets say... Kiwi in a trade with one of the top three teams to get Curry. I would hate to see Kiwanuka go. But with all thier pass rushers he is expendable (as is all the others), but he has a lot of value. Then they can keep the late first rounder for a reciever. Th lions could use a pass rusher and 2 more picks to rebuild.

I agree w/ the things that you're saying about the O-line..There's a depth issue there....but that's about all I agree with here (not like I know everything, but it differs from my train of thought).
1. I think that Nicks could be great...but he's not proven in the NFL. Edwards is. So a trade for Edwards that included a 2nd ,3rd and 5th pick and even Jay Alford would be a good deal for both teams. It's clear that the Browns are not interested in trading for just a 2nd and 3rd pick - so the Giants need to make the deal sweeter (which also needs to include a player to reduce the cap). We have too many picks as is.
2. I also think that Kiwi has preformed well enough to safely say that he's not a bust. So therefore, I believe that JR would not trade a former 1st rounder (who can play DE and LB) and the 2 2nd round picks for a potential star in one LB (that is Curry).
I still think they should work the Edwards deal b/c is Plax gets shafted, than we're SOL when it comes to a formidable WR that can stretch the field and demand double coverage. Edwards would fill that void and if Plax does come back, there would literally be no stopping the G-men from another SB.

I agree to all of that. The scouts think that Nicks is might end up being the best pro out of the recievers drafted this year (according to NFL Sirius). The giants defnitly need some expierence no doubt about that... but I wouldnt say Edwards is has "proving himself" in the NFL. He had one exceptional year and a couple of ok ones with a lot of drop balls. No exceptional for a 1st round pick. I think Nicks making a splash quickly has just as much risk as edwards. I do think they should persue Edwards though. Also, my point with Kiwanuka is that he is the 3rd best DE the giants have (tuck, uyminiora). But with the depth they have, they can get a lot of value out of him. And the Giants need a stud linebacker. The LB core got better with Boley. But Peirce (who i think is the most underated LB in the NFL when it comes to the game intelligence) is getting older and slowing a little bit. G-men LB's used to be feared. Now they are pick and plug guys every year with the exception of Pierce. Also, while a plax/edwards duo might sound good. The giants need the speed threat that they had hoped Moss would bring. Plax commands a double team. But i wouldnt call him the "deep threat" and Edwards is the same type of reciever. Back to the recievers. FYI on rookie recievers last year DeSean Jackson 62rec, 912yds, 2 TD, Eddie Royal 91 rec, 980 yds, 5 td. All Rookies that made big impacts that I might consider before Edwards 55 rec, 873yds, 3 tds. Could you imagine NY have a beast like a calvin Johnson??? instead of picking up every other teams 2nd reciever. I trust JR and I like how they manage. But they have to much fire power to waste this year in making the team much better. Check out Edwards yearly stats http://www.nfl.com/players/braylonedwards/profile?id=EDW127548 and tell me if you really think he is the answer.

One last thing... According to Bucky brooks the Edwards deal shuoldnt go through for a lot of good reasons (browns problems at WR). That leave boldin who i am not convinced is a no 1 wr. Giants have to look the the draft for it.

Look , you have legit points.
LBs are needed. Kiwi needs to stay incase of injuries (at least I feel he does). in regards to edwards (and the brooks article - I read this morning), he's got points too, but Mangini will trade him to establish his "own" team.
as far as Edwards goes, he can practically be a decoy (see Plax stats from 08 season pre-shooting- not so hot) - all he needs is to catch an occational ball and make the defensive coordinators prep for him. that'll open up holes for BJ b/c despite the fact that we all love to see the long ball/ catch and run, the Giants are a running team.
A proven receiver will loosen up the d-line a bit for the o-line to take advantage. So in that sense, I think Edwards is the best fit (at this point).
Nicks may be good to and i do think that some of the stats that you have put down are a good refernce point, so thank you.
At this point, all I can say is "In Jerry We Trust".

Edwards would be a good pick-up for a 2nd, 5th and Hixon. I would not include Smith who had more caughts and is a great 3rd receiver. It is hard to say who will be available at WR in the draft. It usually takes WRs a couple of years to reach their potential. If we get Edwards, I would like to move up ahead of Atlanta to take the top TE. The TE disappeared from the offense last year. Nicks is another option with a TE in 2nd or 3rd with a LB. We also need a safety who can cover and support the run defense. We definitely need another strong draft to improve at WR, TE, LB and Safety. We have 5 picks in the top 100 choices. Please note that you can not trade compensatory picks. GO GIANTS.
R any of you guys looking at Ramses Barden now that Plax is gone. I like the trade of draft choices 4 Braylon. If we could also sneak this kid in the late 2nd or the 3rd rd. We would be nasty!! Some thing tells me this kid is the next T.O. without the selfishness! Braylon on one side and Barden on the other and also agree with linebacker at 1st rd. Three potentials out of USC.
Get Bolden!!! just make an offer too good to refuse. Great blocker, runs excellent pass patterns that will allow the oft times rag armed, twinkled toed Eli the latitude to lead him on patterns, rather then guess where the hare brained Plax was going. Get rid of Moss WR, what a waste on a roster spot. Use #1 to get Braylon Edwards from Cleveland this team is solid enough now.
boldin was not doubled in AZ. braylon beat double teams consistently in 07
Boldin is a no 2... so is TJ and once again I argue that Edwards had one good year... 1. He stunk it up big time last year after going to the pro bowl the year before. All of those guys are no 2 recievers. would anyone here want welker as a primary threat??? Sorry gentlemen but it looks like we are drafting a receiver. And to be honest... if you are right about barden. I dont mind them taking a reciever in t round 1 and 2. Nicks and Barden with smith in the slot. and Manningham sub in. WR is the Giants only week spot at this point.

Totally agree. Except I would probably go Heyward-Bey in round 1 and Barden in round 2. Don't get me wrong I think Nicks is great, but DHB can stretch the field better and then Barden would give us a possesion receiver/ red-zone threat. With our other second rounder I like taking best linebacker available.
your crazy if you think two rookies can be sufficient starters. just look at the players the giants drafted as rookies...never consistent starters
really??? Ross, Steve Smith, Jay Alford, Zak DeOssie, Boss, Michael Joyhnson, and Ahmad bradshaw... class of 2007 would like to disagree with you!!!

im talking only about wr, i thought wr was alll this was about. smith did nothing during reg season in 07, manningham nothing last year, and moss nothing 3 years ago. it is tough for rookie wr cause they never see bump coverage in college, its a hard transition
Smith is obvioulsy not a no. 1 but you cant say you hes wasnt a huge peice in the Playoffs. Manningham didnt break the line up yet but I think he will be good. Your talking about the recievers needing time but saying Manningham does nothing. Your talking apples to oranges anyway... as stated above in one of my other comments... here are some rookie stats from last year... Tell me the rookie revievers have a tough time transitioning. And a 1st rounder should be able to get in right away and produce (in some cases).
FYI on rookie recievers last year DeSean Jackson 62rec, 912yds, 2 TD, Eddie Royal 91 rec, 980 yds, 5 td. Would you not take Donnie Avery on your team now if you knew what kind of big threat he would be? How About Harry Douglas? He was ESPN a few times!!! 2007 had Dwayne Bowe and Calvin Johnson, Tedd Ginn, Sydney Rice, Anthony Gonzalez. 2006 WE saw Santonio Holmes, Marques Colsten, Gregg Jennings. Do you want me to continue? I wonder if any of those guys saw bum coverage in college!!!
Point is... a no 1 can come in a produce right away. Maybe they wont be Moss, Owens, Plaxico, or Calvin johnson (right now) but they will be good. And produce!!! we dont need a 1000 yrd superstar. We need targets for Eli to spread it around to. Some Size in the redzone and some speed on a long out or post route. rb4bama28 I agree with your 2 Recievers. They could come in and do something now While still having Hixon Smith, Manningham. It would be a very good young core of rec.
