NFL > Houston Texans > Houston Texans: 2009 NFL Draft Profile

This guy wrote a pretty interesting article about the Texans' status quo: what changes need to be made and how to address areas of need in the draft.

"With one hand gripping his battle-stained helmet and the other pointing to the sky, Steve Slaton walked off the field to the roar of over 70,000 jubilant fans in Reliant Stadium. His shadow in that moment, cast before him in the grass, embodied all that was right and wrong with the young franchise. Lightness and darkness captured in a single frame.

You see, the Houston Texans had just defeated the Chicago Bears 31-24 in the final game of the 2008 season to finish with a record of 8-8 for a second consecutive year. Yet, an uninformed onlooker might have thought they???d won the Super Bowl.

Complacency in mediocrity and low expectations are not the building blocks of champions. If the Texans truly want to make the climb to the next tier of professional competitiveness, they have to view their previous season with disappointment..."

That's why they will go defense in the 1st round to become a championship-caliber team. Their D is horrible. Mostly, the secondary. If they can get a big corner in the draft or a stud safety like Louis Delmas, their looking pretty good.

Only 21 weeks left until the Texans take on the Vikings. With Schaub (Wahoowa!) shaping up to be a QB for the long-haul, we're desperate for Okoye to join Williams in creating a defensive line that can support our improving offense in leading Houston to the 09 playoffs.

The pass defense was atrocious. Some of that had to do with Mario Williams being the only guy to put pressure on the QB. I would love Malcom Jenkins, but I havent seen many mock drafts with him dropping to us. I like Brian Cushing of USC if we could get him.

I'm optimistic for 2009. As long as we draft some defensive support and Schaub stays healthy, I don't see why we shouldn't progress to post-season play. I'll be there! Texa ns Tickets

They have a lot of talent, just need to put it together. It would help having a good QB

The initiative taken for the concern is very serious and needs an attention of everyone. This is the concern which exists in the society and needs to be eliminated from the society as soon as possible.
