NFL  > New Orleans Saints  > Is Greg Williams the missing piece to our defense..?

i have complete faith in him due to his past experiences. he is a very gifted coach. but what will he change? what will be the difference in play calls? will he blitz more? will he play more zone? how long will it take him to put the saints in the top 10 defense in the league?? any comments......i want to see how other fans feel about our new addition...

Top ten? Really? With the offense clicking (when healthy), I'd be satisfied with a D ranking in the teens. Basicly if they can just slow offenses down and use time off the clock instead of allowing big plays, it'll be a huge improvement. I still think they are lacking at LB. Look for more nickel sets with corner blitzes and a more attacking mind set.

I've said many times the problem with our defense is that we lack a true force at nose tackle...the anchor of a 4-3 defense is the interior line...If a nose tackle in a 4-3 can't pull a double team consistently...he will cripple the whole defense...if Coach Williams wants to make an impact...he will get a legit nose tackle that can dominate the A gap and leave the B gap available for our Mike or Will linebacker to do what they want...
This will also make our secondary better...as a former DB...I can tell you...when you can't put pressure on the QB...it leaves you vulnerable and even the best DB's will look bad...last year and before that...our opposing QB's had TOO much time to decide what to do with the ball...

DRAFT A TRUE NOSE TACKLE...Sedrick Ellis will also flourish (and I mean really wreak havoc) when paired with a true nose tackle...

wsup smokey our defense is going to definitly be in the top 10 with all the help from williams. it also helps because we got darren sharper, jabari greer, paul spicer , rod coleman, and that half our defense came out of injured reserve haha this is your bro in law

just to follow up... the addition to Rod Coleman is going to help more than people might think , having him and big OL Ellis in the middle will bring presure off of our gifted defensive ends...who hopefully will not get suspended for 4 games... but the better we pressure the qb, the better it makes our seconday, plain and simple.. go Saints...

I mean in '06 when we made the NFC Championship game our defense was ranked 11th. I know, I was shocked to hear that too. But it's true. Now we've gotta real defensive coordinator, not just some guru, and I think he'll prove to be a huge addition. The schemes will change drastically and our secondary won't be sitting ducks like usual. Big time pickup for the Saints and something we've needed forever.
