NFL  > Oakland Raiders  > Vote for the Raiders' worst first-round pick of all-time!!
April 7, 2009, 02:25 PM
The 2009 NFL Draft is just weeks away and your team's decision may shape the future of the franchise. Squads have struck gold with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, while others have gone bust with gems like Ki-Jana Carter and gasp, Ryan Leaf. But before we start worrying about whom our team is going to take, let's take a look at history to reflect on the absolutely god-awful picks our squads have made. Sure some guys couldn't help their fate with career-ending injuries, one or two may have unfortunately departed, and some may have just outright sucked. Bottom line is, knowing what they know now, the team wouldn't have picked the guy they did.

So, first vote for your team's biggest first-round bust, and then we'll seed the "winners" to go at it in a 32-man bracket to crown the worst pick of all-time. Sorry Jets and Bengals fans, only one player can represent your team. Now...you're on the clock!! Then vote in the NFC!

Very funny...your link doesn't even work. In 1986 we drafted DE Bob Buczkowski and he never started an NFL game. Then we followed that trend in 1987 when we drafted OT John Clay. We seem to have forgotten these two when we talk about this because we remember the busts that were in games for us like Todd Marinovich, Derrick Gibson, Patrick Bates, and Rickey Dudley or even Eldridge Dickey...Does anybody remember him? He was the quarterback taken in round 1 of the 1968 draft. What a wasted pick...in round 2 that year, we drafted another quarterback that went on to become our all time leading passer...Kenny Stabler.

Has to be Todd Marinovich for me. The guy had a drug problem at USC right in our back yard. Other players new about it at USC. So we either did not do our homework or we gambled on him anyway. Both scenarios are deplorable.

Brady was a 6th round pick...

We swindled SD out of Jim Lachey with Clay, so not really a bust for the Raiders. Although we got stuck with Schroeder for years in the next Lachey deal :(

Many thought Dickey was better than Stabler that rookie year...

Thanks, you reminded of many long forgotten, on second thought maybe it's best they stay forgotten.
My Vote would be Todd Marijauna-vich. I mean the entire USC campus knew he was a pot head.

Robert Gallery anyone??

April 13, 2009  12:57 AM ET

It has to be Seabass,he scares me everytime we need him he chokes.I think we could have waited till the 3rd round for this guy.Clay and Dudley come to mind and I can't recall Bob Bucwhatever(maybe he should be No.1) but Seabass is my number #1

Chester "The Rester" McGlocklin.....Chester McFatA$$ as I always called him. This idiot wore a fur coat during practice, took plays off during a game and to insult to injury went to the hated KC chefs......

He still has a career ahead of him, meaning there's time to turn around how poor he's been thus far.

A stretch, but possible.

Derrick Gibson...could not catch aids from and aids infected needle.

Easy Jamarcus Russell, just wait and see.

Honorable mention Ricky Dudley, obscene amount of hype coming out.

Gotta be Todd Marinovich! I mean I think that Gallery is a bust so far and that's coming from an Iowa Alum that was thrilled when he was picked. But it's a what have you done for me lately league!
I am not all that inspired with the pick of Russell either but not ready to throw him under the bus just yet. Maybe Garcia can light a fire under his ass this season!

Gallery actually has become a very solid guard.

With Al Davis picking there have been so many, it's really tough to call.

I agree with Saylinson Robert Gallery has been a bust. His first couple years in College he was a tight end then over the summer he became a off. lineman steroids anyone.
