NFL  > Green Bay Packers  > 2009 NFL Mock Draft (Round 1)
April 8, 2009, 03:04 PM
1. DETROIT LIONS - Matthew Stafford, QB- Released Orlovsky and traded away Kitna. That leaves them with Culpepper and Stanton. Obviosly, they dont like Stanton since they played Orlovsky ahead of him, and it seems like their making room for Stafford on the roster by getting rid of all the QB's.

2. ST. LOUIS RAMS - Jason Smith, OT- They just released Orlando Pace and they'll need to find his replacement. Smith is now the highest rated OT in the draft.

3. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Aaron Curry, LB- Curry will step in to help out an improving defense with a lot of young, promising talent. My highest rated player in the draft.

4. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Eugene Monroe,OT- With the trade for Cory Redding, The Seahawk's O-Line needs help.

5. CLEVELAND BROWNS - Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB- Desperatley need a pass-rush. Their supposed pass-rusher Corey Williams was hurt for most of the year and they need to find him a partner. Orakpo is just that.

6. CINCINNATI BENGALS - Andre Smith, OT- Bengals might go with B.J. Raji here, but after testing positive for drugs, they might go with Smith instead. Then again, that never stopped the Bengals before...

7. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Michael Crabtree,WR- Al Davis loves this guy, and will be a great addition to the Raiders. They will need to pick up much needed O-line help later to protect Russel so he can throw to him.

8. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Mark Sanchez, QB- Not a need, but they were hoping for Crabtree, and if he falls past Seattle, they might trade up to get him. Also might go with Jeremy Maclin or Michael Oher.

9. GREEN BAY PACKERS - B.J. Raji, DT- Packers desperatly need to find a nosetackle for their new 3-4 system. Raji is perfect. Might also go with Aaron Maybin.Trade Down is also a high possibility.

10. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB- Niners need a pass-rusher since Manny Lawson has become a complete bust. Trade down is a high possibility.

11. BUFFALO BILLS -Everette Brown, DE/OLB

12. DENVER BRONCOS - Tyson Jackson, DE

13. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Michael Oher, OT

14. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S

I agree with you for the most part. I hope GB trades the pick to get a few more picks in this years draft. Figure since we dont have a person that everyone knows we want teams will be looking at us as a possible trade partner especially if a team is wanting one of the top QBs in the draft. But if we do use the pick I would rather see the Pack take Maybin or Brown at DE. R. Pickett while not a superstar is a pretty good NT but we really need someone at end especially if Jenkins doesn't come back 100% from his injury. Best case though is Packers trade down and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick and use them to fill needs for a depth at CB, OT, and DL. Also say R. Martin is still pretty good trade bait to get more picks or to use to move up in the 2nd or 3rd round since Martin is a good WR but is on a team that is so deep at WR he will never get utilized and right now still has some trade value. Never know he could get hurt in preseason or something and his value will decrease. Plus we all know Thompson will use a pick on a WR anyways and that rookie can be the teams 5th WR.

I think there will be enough quality left at #9 for GB to stay there and take that selection. Also there appears to be enough quality, not superstar depth at the positions that they need in the 2nd round too. I wouldn't mind seeing them take a OT in the first round if Raji isn't there. You can get Clint Sintim in the second. We don't see alot of talk about GB trading up but maybe that's a possibility. Getting Curry would be VERY nice. Either way there is enough depth in the first 3 rounds to get quality back-ups. The only way I see GB getting an impact player is to trade for one (Peppers) or trade up for Curry.

Personally I think what the Lions do will dictate what will happen for the Packers. If they dont take Stafford, he will probably drop all the way down Jags or some other team will move up to take him because none of the teams prior to Jags could really use a QB and QB not really a need for Jags if Garrad can bounce back from off year. This would mean that Sanchez could be free at 9 and a few teams would be willing to move up to take him....including the Broncos, Jets, Bucs, or Lions.

lets hope Raji is still there at number 9, and that Ted thinks he's the best player on his board.
