NFL  > New York Giants  > Trade for Tony Gonzalez
April 17, 2009, 11:27 AM
I think no matter what happens at #1 reciever spot, draft, trade, use what we have, we should consider Tony Gonzalez from the chiefs. Hear me out. On almost everyones mock draft arould all the message board someone has us getting a TE in atleast the 3rd round. We could get Tony for probably a 2nd. I don't think I need to explain his credentials. I love Boss, hes the man, but we use 2 TE sets all the time. He still has 2-3 years left in him, it won't cost us the bank he will help the team in so many ways. 1- help Boss learn and get open, help the recieving cor, help ELI, and what a locker room presents with no off field garbage. WHAT DO YOU THINK?? Either way love the BLUE, love to win, love to win with class and TONY GONZALEZ = CLASS IN MY BOOK!!

Chiefs are not going to get rid of Gonzalez.
The offense new coordinator Chan Gailey is installing for the Kansas City Chiefs, will employ a power game that places a big premium on tight end play. Especially the play of the man who has caught more passes (820) than any tight end in NFL history.
So why would they get rid of someone who will be playing such a pivotal role in the offense?

Wish away - It doesn't hurt to want

I didn't just bring up a player the best at his posistion and say wish Giants can have him. Trade talks surrounding TG brought up this thread. Tony wanted a trade. the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Atlanta Falcons were not interested in TG for a second round draft choice, so this is where I came up with a second round draft choice. Sirus NFL put this seed in my head stating why a team like the Giants and/or Packers wouldn't jump all over this for a second round pick. I agree why would KC trade?? No Idea, just not my idea. I will wish away.

The trade would be good for the giants in that they would get a leader. But they got rid of a large group of players so that Eli cold be the leader on offense (I dont think Gonzalez is shockey but...). Boss is a very good all purpose TE and I dont see the "need" for another. They might run a 2 TE set, but it doesnt mean that it is a 2 TE passing set. The 2 TE is to set up for the blocking or disguise a passing attack. if you have a TE/Reciever like what shockey was and what gonzalez would be... its not much of a surprise. Its a great thought and you have more points as to why than the morons that say to go get pettigrew. However I have said this before. The Giants do not have a need for a TE period. They need a WR, LB, and OT after that maybe a RB and a CB in the draft. If they give up the picks for Edwards that are expected (1 and 3) they cant afford to give away more.

Well put Superman5581 I would have to agree.

What are you smoking? The priority is WR, and not TE. Why have the Chiefs not won when they had the chance to in the past, other than bad defense? A complete lack of WR play. Furthermore, the 2 TE set as has been explained, when used by the Giants is not a passing set, and would hamper the current overall offensive strategy, which is run forst, then play-action passing. A sencond TE would take away from the Play Action pass.

Furthermore, I completly disagree he has 2-3 years left at his current level. Also, his blocking will more than likely detoriorate drastically over that time, as will his seperation ability, which will completely detract from the whole concept of trading for him.

Don't get me wrong, love TG, mad props and respect to him, but I don't think he would be agood addition at this point for the team. Case ad point - look at the Pats as of late overall, or the Yankees - they brought in a lot of veterans that are old and slow, and have won a lot of games, made a run at a lot of championships, but ultimately could not win in the clutch because they are over the hill. Yeah Brady was gone last year, but their D collapsed when they were really needed to show up.

I said no matter what we do at WR, I didn't say it wasn't #1 priority. I said get TG in addition to getting BE , AB, Draft what ever you would like to do. There has been way to many debates which way JR is going. All I said was Every message board around, and Sirus Radio, NFL Network, Espn, etc.. all have the Giants picking up a TE with their 3rd pick. Sounds like 2nd will get TG.
I would offer the 2nd I got for Shockey from the Saints last year, go after this guy, use my 1 on a WR (either trade or draft) and I still have a second, and two thirds, a fith, etc.. round picks to get a OL, LB, CB, RB. How ever long you think he has he put up huge numbers last year & a trip to the pro bowl so he is still producing on a bad team. He doesn't need to put up those kind of numbers on the giants anyway w/ supporting cast. Will things detoriorate for him yes, but you make it sound like this year. #1 Goal win SB, he can help now, he wants a ring now, and so do I. And your case and point Yankees, etc.... we are not bringing in a team of old vets, it would be one older vet who came off mad numbers and probowl. Pat's is the worst example you can give cause they bring in old vets and a number of them and debate or not they are a dynasty cause they win SBs. What ever happens happens just wanted your thoughts on the subject. I thought it would be a key addition without braking the bank.

Dont be so defensive!!! You put out a comment and the response is for the most part, the giants do not need a pass threat TE and they do not need Gonzalez who would require too much for somone with 2 years tops left in the tank. Granted they would be productive years but its just not a need. It was an interesting thought a year ago but it has fallen aside right now. Giants no 1 need isa WR. the are three deep at TE with younger players. Two of the are blockers. I dont think Gonzalez in your words would be a key addition. it would be like trading for a classic car... you pay too much to keep it in the garage and stare at it!!!

Dude, in case you did not notice, teams that get long in the tooth, don't win Super Bowls. The Pats lost against the Giants for a lot of reasons, and had all the Stars on their side of the ball.

Moreover, when does a team that signs a TON of OLD guys EVER win???? You say you been watching football for 25 years... Well you obviously did not pay attention. The Redskins signed every sngle vet they could and look where it got them. How about the Cowboys.

Get over it.

A TE in the 3rd round is WAY different thaan trading a 2nd round draft pick for a guy with 2 years left.

And yes don't be defensive. Now I guess you understand how TO feels, eh?

gonzalez?? are you kidden me? he has maybe 2 yrs left in his tank?? TE is not the problem here to begin with. infact now we have too many..with the signing of lee vickers. we have boss, vickers, michael mathews, and darcy johnson. how many TE's do you want? come on..they played very well last yr. no need for TE. the problem the giants have now i think every team wishes ..which is too many draft picks. we do not need players ..we need A player..maybe 2 more at the most..we do not have room for 10. ..before the draft the giants will make a move. look for either braylon edwards. or
anquan boldin. edwards makes more sense because of the money. ..with tyree coming back this season the giants do not need to get as many players on offense. we are a superbowl contendening team no need for alot of players anyways..
