NFL  > New Orleans Saints  > DRAFT TIME: Priority, DEFENSE or OFFENSE??????.
April 18, 2009, 06:44 PM
After the lack of acquisitions that the Saints have made before last season on defense it showed on the field, especially in the defensive backfield. For the last several years the defensive line and linebackers have been pretty good, but not as the ???dome patrol???. I have been following the Saints for over 30 years. They have never had a ???pro bowl caliber??? defensive backfield.

Can anyone name 5 pro bowl caliber cornerbacks that the Saints have ever had?

It is most as if they do not care about the defensive backfield. Like the defensive backfield is an afterthought. ???Oh yeah, by the way we might need a couple players to cover the receivers. Just get anyone???.

Now looking at this year???s free agency acquisitions that the Saints have picked up and what they still need for a sudden impact I am not expecting a year like 2006. I hope that they do great, but there are so many holes to be closed. I am Saints die-hard fan.

The Saints only have 4 picks in this year???s draft. I would go all defense (starting with cornerback) and invite offensive players to camp. I do not believe in BPA. You need to get what you need.

i have to agree. we should work all around defense in this draft, go get the talent, go after what we need, the saints every year have someone stepping up on offense and being a playmaker, aka P. Thomas. robert meachem is back and healthy Lance had a good year, we still have shockey and bush and alot of playmakers on offense, i think we should just go after Javon ringer in the draft, he is a good down hill runner, that is if we go after a halfback later on in the draft, but he will probably not be in there past the 3rd at latest. he is not the fastest, but he ran the ball so much for michigan state. he has the expiernec to step in there and pick up them tough yards for us, he would be a great addition to our running game, but defanitely, first round, i say Malcom jenkins, or vontae davis , or brian cushing.....

another good thing to do is if we could get a 2nd and 3rd pick out of lance moore if we traded, even though he fits in really good in our system, we could use those 2 extra picks...

The best bet would be to shop the #14 pick to a team looking to move up (like the rumored trade with New England). There is NO solid pick at DB. I've seen Jenkins play alot-being from Ohio, and as a true corner he's not that impressive. Not great closing speed and better in zone coverage, he MIGHT be okay as a free safety. Davis seems to take too many plays off or rely too much on speed. In the NFL all receivers are fast! I say swap #1s with the Pats and get the #2 (34th pick). The drop off in talent isn't that much in this draft.

i think our dbs are fine, tracy porter has been on IR so that kind of hurt us, now that hes back it should do us good, plus i think randall gay is already good, we also added jabari greer. darren sharper will help us out alot also.We should get brian cushing to replace scott shanle
