NFL  > Philadelphia Eagles  > What to do about the CB problem ?
April 21, 2009, 06:52 PM
Can the eagles get a #1 pick for S. Brown. If he's as good as some think he should get a better contract now. The proof would be if another team offered a # 1 or even a # 2. He himself agrees he only wants to get middle of the pack money. I look at the past season, this is the very reason they benched Sheppard, only his contract was up at the end of the season. If they can get a 1 or 2 I say get rid of him.
2 million a year is not enough. Lets do the math people 2 x 10 = .

They're not going to trade him.

He has four years left on his contract, they aren't going to renegotiate it.

Players should learn to not sign long term contracts and reap the benefits only to later complain when the average salary of their position increases.

Dear Sheldon, The economy is so, so bad and yet people who will never make what you make in one year in their whole lifetime come out every week to see you play and pay your salary. Stop crying and honor your contract!!!!

The Eagles took a firm stance on this, and I applaud them. CB Brown is 2 years into his new deal, with 4 left. He is a good corner, and plays well against the run, but what is he talking about? He signed that contract, and solid as he is, he is not an elite player who warrants that kind of pay-day. This is getting really old with these selfish players. The economy is bad, and fans may be more reluctant to purchase merchandise, and attend games. On top of the 7.5 mill signing bonus, he is scheduled to make over $12 more mill over the course of his contract...and he is solid at best. I'm a laborer, (by choice) , and have had the same job for 15 years, and never missed a day of work. Unless I hit the Lotto, I'll never see a 1/4 of that money he makes in my lifetime. But I still get up every day and go to work, fortunate to have a job in these tough economic times, that allows me to pay my mortgage, utilities, and have just a little left over to put aside in case of an emergency. This is such B.S. with these players and my patience is wearing thin. Philly should draft a RB, TE, or C with the 1st 2 picks, and then grab a CB and make Brown play special teams and ride the pine. F@#@...this S#@% pisses me off!!!!

They got what for Lito - a fifth? And he made two pro-bowls. There is no way they'd get a one for Sheldon. This "hold out for a renegotiation or trade" tactic has become quite commonplace in the NFL, and we've all heard the arguments; the teams say honor your contract while the players say that the teams are not held to the contracts, so why should they be? The bottom line is that it's all a racket. The millionaire players want more money for the billionaire owners while Joe Schmo has to fork over two-week's pay just to take his kid to a game. As greedy and out of touch the players seem, the owners a a LOT worse.

We will never have a championship team. Their are people willing to take base pay just to have a chace to play in the NFL. What ever happen to the luv of the game? I understand family security; but this is getting real old. Let's play ball...I also think both sides are wrong.. Keep problems in house. When the media gets a hold of it - it never ends. The Eagles could have called him in and told him that privately and he could have back tracked his statement. This is the part of the NFL that I truely hate.

This is about principle, they should not by any means trade Sheldon Brown. He should honor his extension that he willingly signed. What is he bi-polar? Hundreds of people recently lined up for 1 janitorial position. He must not be too bright either...because he compared his situation to the Jason Peters deal which is not even relative. Peters is considered an all pro LT just hitting his prime, who was still on his rookie deal. Brown had the option to play out his deal, or re-up and stay on a winning team with a chance to compete for a championship. He chose to re-up, was ecstatic, and has the balls to say the Eagles treated him like a red headed step child! I liked Brown prior to this, he just lost all credibility with the fans, and has management scratching their heads.

I really dont understand why so many people get upset or jealous cause these players make grouples of money, and still want more ...Personally, I think the fun and competiveness went out the door as soon as they became PRO Atheletes.(Agents, sponsors, groupies, trades, franchising players etc.) Its a business, I could care less what these players wanna get paid, sooooo not my business, the nfl also stands for; NOT FOR LONG so if u are a fortunate indivdual that commands that kinda pay day then so be it. Think about the guys that worked thier butts off and still were cut. If these contracts were so outrageous then they wouldnt be entertained. Just imagine the people that are signing thier checks..Can u imagine what they are getting paid?..That's who u should get mad at!

I honestly dont see a problem here.Sheldon Brown will play all 16 games, and if he doesnt then Ellis Hobbs will start.

I don't either.
Pre-draft...maybe.
Post-draft...not so much.
With the draft day trade for Hobbs, and the drafting of Macho Harris, the signing of Jones and Baker, plus having Samuel, Brown, Hanson, Demps, and Mikell...I don't foresee any big impact if Brown decides not to play (chances are he will play at this point).

Who would give a #1 or #2 pick for brown. He worth a 5th round pick or 4th at best. He better get used to the bench with Asante being the starter Hanson the 3rd CB whoever loses out of Hobbs or Brown will be a special team player.
