The worst first round pick that I can remember off hand would have to be Reggie Dupard. I think he got put on the IR with "turf toe"

I think you have to make a distinction between "worst" as in "least productive for his career in New England despite having opportunities to be" or "worst" as in "lack of production due to circumstances beyond their control."
I don't consider Edwards to be a bad pick at all. His injury was a total fluke, and the NFL shut down the flag football game at the Pro Bowl because of that. Before that, he ran for, what? 1100 yards or so? And Katzenmoyer hurt his neck pretty badly, though he was decent as a rookie. I'm just not sure it's fair to tag them with that label when you've got players like Chris Canty and Hart Lee **** drafted
(For the record, look here for the Pats first round picks: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/draft/draft_query.cgi?pos=ALL&ro und_1=1&round_2=1&tm=nwe&year_1=1936&year_2=2008&confer ence=any&type=)
(Sorry; for the record, that blanked out word is apparently banned slang for a lesbian, if you get my drift. And, yeah, that's really his last name.)
Not repeating the ones who have already been mentioned are: Fragile Chapagne Tony Eason and that outstanding center Trevor Matich. Also who can forget that Pete Carroll fell in love with Tebuckey Jones. Eugene Chung, lets hope that Patrick is better. Don't forget takles Patricia Harlowe and Brian "the Matador Holoway. And lastly John "we hardly knew ye" Stephens and the immortal "Viva Las" Vegas Ferguson. There are more but most people won't know them. Think of all the players we passed on during the Sullivan and Kiam years. Jerry Rice.

Has it been so long that you have forgotten Ken Sims (1982)? He and Eugene Chung are the all-time worst.

It doesn't make them a bad pick. It means we were unlucky. It's a completely different situation. You look at a guy like Adrian Klemm and you say, "THAT SIR IS A BAD PICK."

Tebucky Jones was a top tier nickel back. He jumped the ball a bit much so I wouldn't use him in man coverage, but he was a great player.
C'mon guys. Katzenmoyer? Robert Edwards? Please. Those guys got hurt and never recovered. That's not a BUST. Obviously none of you are old or were smoking too much weed in the early 80's to remember Ken "Game Day" Sims. He was a DE out of TX and the #1 pick in the '82 draft for the Patriots. The guy was a complete terror in college. He should have been our Bruce Smith or Reggie White, but never panned out. He played only 1 full season out of 8 years. He was lazy and later busted for coke. Luckily our 2nd round pick that year was Andre Tippett.
Ken Sims = BUST. Especially as a #1 overall.
Robert Edwards set a record for the most consecutive games with a touchdown as a rookie (Patschowder.com makes a good point and provides more stats). He was NOT a bust. He was a fantastic pick, who happened to be very unlucky. The main point of any discussion about draft busts comes down to stupid picks. The more foreseeable the error, the better. Andy Katzenmoyer played like he would be a ten year starter before his career ending injury. In looking back at the draft, no one could say that the Patriots were stupid for taking either Katzenmoyer or Edwards.
Chris Canty (the cornerback who was out of the league within a few years of his selection -not the defensive lineman with the Giants) was an undersized defensive back with below average speed. He was selected 6th overall and is the definitive Patriots draft bust. It was an undeniably stupid selection.

Sims wasn't so much a bad player, he was decent to good...he was just no where near as good as he was supposed to be, #1 overall. In fact some NFL personnel guy called him "the only player in a 1 player draft". At least he played, Chung was a total bust. Maroney belongs on this list, he's hurt more than he plays. But the worst years are the years we had 2 picks and got double-busts. Pat Harlow & Leonard Russell in 1991. Russell was the guy that Parcells dumped and said "I prefer my RBs to bring the ball with them" 1990 maybe the all time low point. 2 first round busts, both in the top 10 Singleton & Agnew and 12 players overall, none of whom had any kind of NFL career. Rick Sanford was another waste of a 1st rounder in 79. I won't dwell on the 1960s because I was a kid and really don't remember a lot of the games.
QUOTE(#11):
EEEEEEEE Eugene Chung. Hands down the worst.
100% agree with Chung. Edwards looked like he was going to be a great pick before blowing out his knee in a beach flag football game.
