TG wanted to go. Pioli doesn't want guys who don't want to be in KC. Also, getting a second round pick for a 33 year old Tight end is a great deal... TG himself said last yer that a 2nd round pick was too much to ask for. Getting 12 years of outstanding play, then getting a #2 when he's at this late stage of his carrer, is like getting a $20,000 trade in on your old '87 pickup truck!
I gotta disagree. If you put his #'s up against the rest of the league's, he led his position in virtually EVERY category: receptions (96), receiving yards (1,058) *only TE with 1000+ rx yards*, TD's (10), and 1st downs (67).
You're telling me that "THAT'S" worth ONLY a 2nd round, 2010 pick to your front office?
I understand why he wanted to leave and go to a good team, but I (like the rest of the league) think you could have (and should have) got WAY MORE for him, regardless of how long he's been in the league.

Tony wanted to play for a Super Bowl contender, I get that. But while he talked about it, he wasn't (publicly, anyway) doing so in such a way that it damaged the team. I think he would have played--and played at a high level--had the trade not materialized.
Even if you think a trade in the abstract is a good thing, a pick NEXT YEAR doesn't make the team better this year. In fact, if the Falcons go deep into the playoffs, that is a *late* 2nd round pick. That's just not a good value for a guy who's a top-5 TE even if his play drops off this year.
KC is rebuilding and the Falcons only need this guy for a year or two to get Matt Ryan broke in. Good trade for both teams. It's great for TG because he has a chance to play for a possible playoff team, rather than spend the end of his career watching KC rebuild. Lots of platers in all sports like to see a trade like this towards the end of their career. Good luck Tony.

I agree. Thanks to TG for years of great play and professionalism... Good luck in Atl!!
Yes Yes Yes I 100% agree that we should have got more outta Tony G. but, whether he wanted out or not Tony deserved to get a chance with another team. He has busted his ass with the Chiefs and been the best Tight End the NFL has ever saw and we never gave him that Super Bowl Ring he deserved maybe the Falcons can.

ok... I can understand TG wanting to get a ring so he doesn't turn into a Marino, but if he really was looking for a ring - why would he accept the Falcons... i don't see a lot of heavy $ running out to Vegas to be placed on the Falcons to win the SB.... KC is as close to that as they are....
Dissatisfied, looking to get out, - ok, but he's gunna be missed. He provided a threat that demanded coverage or you got burned. there's no real stat for how many TD's he created by being doubled or tripled.
