NFL  > New England Patriots  > Ellis Hobbs traded to the eagles
April 26, 2009, 02:27 PM
In a surprise move, the New England Patriots traded Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles for two fifth-round draft picks (137 and 141 overall). The Patriots then swapped those two picks and sent them to Baltimore for a fourth round pick (123 overall) and a sixth round pick (198 overall). With the 123rd pick, New England selected PSU OL Rich Ohrnberger, a third-team AP All-American selection and a first team All-Big Ten selection in 2008.

I don't know whats up with this?

I hope Belichick's not in over is head with this new GM role...............he better have a plan B otherwise we can end up with a similar **** situation from a couple years back when we let go of Branch and Givens and pathetically ended up with Caldwell as our leading receiver (that BS cost us the SB 3yrs ago).

I hope Belichick's not powertripping because that can cost us the season.

I think Belicheck knows what he's doing.

he realy doesnt value corners, he values the d line and lb's that force qbs to make bad throws

Bill Belichick has always been the GM. Scott Pioli was VP of personnel. This is not new.

Furthermore, you ar worried that the Pats lost out by letting Branch and Givens go? What have Branch and Givens done since? Nothing! And the Pats have Brandon Meriweather from the Branch deal, if I remember right.

Third, Ellis Hobbs III is not a starting CB in the NFL.

Fourth, the cap room he leaves is very close to what will be required to sign Jason Taylor for a couple of years. Who would you rather have, a Dime Corner, or a pass rusher?

I thought so....

Hobbs was a punk - who shot his mouth off & then couldn't deliver the goods .
For the record - the Plax SB Td came on a max blitz ....Hobbs anticipated a quick throw and got caught flat footed . . . unfortunately for Pats , G-Men called the perfect blitz beater play ...Plax quick fade to end zone corner .

Hobbs is only 5'9. Whether he is there or not... Plaxico is still catching the ball.

I think they are, and should be, pretty high on Butler. He was the fastest CB at the combine, and Belichick worked him out personally.

Anyone who has watched Patriots games since Hobbs came to the team knows what a piece of crap corner he is. He was a serviceable return guy, but that was it. He got burned so often, it was painful to watch. It was the ultimate addition by subtraction.

As an Eagles fan I really loved the move !We are getting another starting caliber corner to go with Assante Samuel, Sheldon brown, and Joselio Hanson !As rom a patriots view i would hate giving away our #1 corner for two usless 5 th round picks!

I guess you didn't see who we picked up this off season ;-)

Thanks for the picks!

He values his corners to an extent. Most of them are let go due to age and contracts coming to and end with a foreseeable "I want a lot more money" situation to fallow.

I also agree that he prefers an offense that covers shallow and rushes the QB to make rush decisions rather than force his defense to keep up with the receivers. This type of defense works well, just look how the NYG handled NE to ruin a perfect season. Brady was sacked and rushed to pass so many times and it showed with bad offensive numbers.

I trust BB to do whats best irrelevant of his title and his role in the organization.
