NFL  > San Francisco 49ers  > 49ers in the playoffs this year..........
April 30, 2009, 11:25 PM
I'm just thinking that the post super bowl loser curse will bite the Cards and that pretty much leaves the niners out of the west.

I think they have what it takes to win 10 games as well, we'll see what Crabtree will do for us and no reason to believe Bruce and Davis won't be good contributors on the receiving end. Josh Morgan looked Damned good at the end of last year too. Gore will have help with Coffee in there and I think the O Line will be stout.

Leave Hill out there dammit!!!! Let Smith learn from him a little.

Our defense was much better the last 7 game last year and it should continue. I need not say more than "WILLIS" And what it would be like with Peppers.

Go Niners!!!!!

The 49ers are winning the West this year no doubt. Morgan and Hill came on at WR last year and with Crabtree coming in it should be a real deep unit. With former pro-bowler Marvel Smith playing RT and Chilo Rachal with a years starting experience the line will be tough. Shaun Hill is 7-3 as a starter with the Niners, and Willis is the man. The only item I disagree with you on is Peppers, we don not need his overpaid, me first, and play taking off selfishness infecting our young nucleus.

LetsGoDuke--Had no idea you were a niner fan. I have an all new respect for you now. I agree with your assement. Morgan is a stud.

Uh, did they find a NFL-level QB in the past couple of months and I missed it? I think SF is going to be better but you cannot consistently win in the NFL with a bottom 10 QB.

May 1, 2009  10:55 AM ET

I think the success of this team hinges at the line of scrimmage. I like the Crabtree selection because he was likely the best player available and the kind of talent that doesn't become available often. That being said, I would not have criticized them for taking a potential ten-year tackle like Oher. At the end of the '08 season, it seemed clear that the team's needs were, in order, offensive live, a pass rusher and someone reliable to spell Gore.

Um well ya they did. They actually found him two years ago. they just havnt realized it yet. Last year among the starting quarterbacks (or at least the ones that started the most for their respective teams) Hill had the 12th best QB rating and 12th in yards a game (which is counting only a half against seahawks) with what is widely acknowledged as one of the worst offensive lines in football and no proven elite recievers with the possible exception of bruce who has slowed down a lot. You say hes a bottom 10 QB. He is definitely not. I say with the addition of crabtree and an improved offense under singletary, hes a possible top 10. His record as a started is 7-3. That is better then Matt Cassell as a starter who went 11-5. And i think you will all easily admit the Niners offense is a LOT harder to work with then the Patriots. Bruce is no Randy Moss. If he starts i think the niners could easily go 11-5 or 12-4

Thank you. I just can't get why people don't see Hill as a good QB. He may not define the position, but he knows how to utilize what he's got, and also he will fight for yards himself.

May 2, 2009  12:59 AM ET

And Hill had 4 less TDs than Rothlesburger in 7 1/2 games

LetsgoDuke I'm a Steeler fan, however I respect 4 u guys and would love the honor of playing u guys n the Superbowl. I think the Niners can return 2 glory.

It would only be fitting for the Niners to Beat the Steelers in the SB to get our #6 buddy. And to throw back some respect I think the Steelers run one of if not the most professional organizations in all pro sports. As much as I hate that we have not continued our success, if we lost the tie breaker it is better Pittsburg and not Dallas. Hate those cowboys with a passion.

I hear you, but the fact is the panthers have not utilized him the way he learned the game. He has moved positions on the defense 3 or 4 times. He has also made it clear that he wants to play in a 3 - 4 defense to be an OLB and I think he would excel with the Niners.

Why? What did we do to you?

Oh. Must have been those NFC title games. I like the idea of the 'Boys and the Steelers better.

That among other things bud.

I will admit one thing tho.......The Steelers, Cowboys and 49'ers back in the day, had some damn good games and rivalries. I, for one, look forward to all 3 teams becoming prominent once again, and giving all fans some good games worthy of making history as they used to.

I sincerely hope Singletary can bring your team back to respectability. You may hate the Cowboys, and that's fine, you have that right. Sometimes, I do too........lol........

But, I didn't come here to get into a "war of words" with anyone. But, you have to admit that pro football is a great game, and I enjoy really good games, regardless of who is playing.

Indeed. When it comes to Cowboy fans, you're a friend 6 days out of the week, that 1 day I just don't talk to you.

I have to be honest I almost spit Coke all over my keyboard when I came across the title of this blog. I seriously hope this is just a case of a 49ers fan hoping they make it to the playoffs instead of thinking they will make it. I am by no means an expert but most people that fall into that category have the 49ers picking in the top 10 of the draft yet again next year. There is no way they can beat out the Cards and only one team from the West is going to the playoffs. I am thinking 8-8 at best but more than likely 7-9 or 6-10. Don't forget the AFC division they play against is the South.....Colts, Titans, Jags, and Texans team that is coming on quick. That is probably the toughest division in the AFC, the schedule gods did you no favors there.

Hey bud, If I am remembering right the Niners were just as much a playoff team as yall were last year. and I do believe the Niners have actually won 4 playoff games since your boys have won. and you are full of crap when you say that the experts say the Niners will have another top 10 draft pick. Name one. And why couldn't they beat out the cards? We already have a better defense and our offense can get hot quick.

Why does everything have to revert back to the Cowboys? I said nothing about the Cowboys at all, just was commenting on the post. I guess that's why the America's Team tag was placed on them. Everyone compares their team to the Cowboys. As for you wanting me to name one expert....sure, no problem. Todd McShay of ESPN. If you google Todd McShay's 2010 Mock draft you will see the 49ers picking #10. The good news is that he has the Rams at #1 so maybe the 49ers can get 2 wins from the Lambs. As for the 49ers beating out the Cards I can agree with your point that the 49ers D is better than the Cards but it is not that much better that it will cancel out the difference between the 2 teams offense. It's not like you are talking about the 85 Bears defense, you are talking about a D that is slightly above average and an offense that is in the bottom 10 of the league. I am not sure what you mean by the 49ers have an offense that "can get hot quick." Crabtree will bring some much needed help but it's not like he can do it on his own, you have to find someone to throw it to him first and I am not so sure Hill is the answer for that. Oh yeah, better hope Gore stays healthy.

Come on now! I'm stupid yes, but not that stupid. You chimed in after the broke back cowboys were brought up and decided to rant a little nonsense. Thats o.k. we all do it.

What I meant by our offense can get hot quick is that we have the pieces to succeed, we just need the drive.

But hey, before this goes into all out hate mode, I'll leave the Cowgirls out of it for now.
Good luck, maybe one year both teams will be good so we can play each other every year again.
