NFL  > Philadelphia Eagles  > Eagles Draft

I'm not sold on Jeremy Maclin, but LeSean McCoy appears to be very versatile and should have a solid year to learn from one of the best in Westbrook.

The secondary doesn't need Sheldon Brown leaving right now, The Eagles need to keep him at least one more year.

Get ready for a makeover Philly fans. This will be the last year, win or lose; for this group. McNabb, Curtis & Westbrook will be replaced by younger, cheaper players in 2010. Kolb, Maclin & McCoy will be your stars along with D. Jackson. I love the draft. It was their best draft in many a years. But there is a down side. By drafting younger players and not trading for an established WR they are telling McNabb that his time in Philly is almost done. Hopefully this approach will not upset team chemistry and the team will improve ( SUPERBOWL ) over last year. But I do not expect that to happen, especially with the veterans ( Sheldon Brown ) knowing that the team is in a full out makeover.

Peacho, I'm sorry, but I could not disagree with you more on this. Everyone knows Andy builds his teams from the inside out. Has been for years...and Joe Banner stated that they targeted, and tried to get LT Peters last year. Buff. declined. If Shawn's bro Stacey wasn't tagged by the Bengals last year, he would have already been an Eagle. That being said...Maclin was an afterthought going into the draft. They had him rated in the 10 best players of 09 draft. The Raiders should have taken Crabtree, or Maclin. Their productivity in college was superb. When he started to slip, they jumped up to get him. Kudos to Andy. This kid is unbelievable with the ball in his hands as a receiver, or returner. Just needs to work on intermediate routes. You don't pass on that kind of natural talent. You are now looking at a complete WR core.
Westbrook, as great as he is, needed help in the backfield. Bucks gone...and well, why not take a RB as dynamic as Westbrook and assimilate him into a scheme that will play to his strength's. Another great pick. Also highly productive in college vs. strong opposition.
Behind TE Celek, who scares you?
Ingram should. Talk about a pure athlete. He could surpass Celek in a couple years. All three picks should also see some significant playing time in 09. Much too talented to leave on the bench. Bottom line is, the team you see on paper right now, has been built to take all the burden and pressure off of McNabb, and Westbrook to win every game by themselves. I would love to see McNabb handing the ball off to Westbrook, McCoy, and Weaver...only to be complemented by deep bombs to Jackson and Curtis, with Maclin, Avant, Celek, and Ingram working the middle. Kevin Kolb was drafted as an insurance policy, no way can he replace Donovan anytime soon other than to injury. With that line, and all his new toys to play with, McNabb will be great. He has not become a liability, unlike other positions on the team that needed to be addressed. He also does not play defense.
Think of... the the Broncos when they had Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith, and John Elway. The Eagles might be that team this year. I can't think of a time recently when the team as a whole, Offense, Defense, and Special teams was this young and talented, and complete. Just give 5 his extension...and he can command this ship for many more years.

I also like McCoy ALOT. He is also a perfect fit for the Eagles. Watching his tapes, he looks almost exactly liek Westbrook. He can catch, he's elusive. He has some fumbling probelms, but that could be fixed easily. The problem with Maclin is that hes almost the entirely same player as D. Jackson. Speedy, great in the vertical passing game, but lacks the size and strength to become a true number 1 WR. Eagles don't have a true #1 wr. But they don't need 1. With Jackson, MAclin, and Curtis stretching the feild, it just helps Westbrook and McCoy out. Eagles look good this year. They also have a very stout Defense, and unless McNabb or a major injury happens on the Defense i dont see anybody beating them in the NFC.

With the drafting of McCoy, have the Eagles officially given up on Tony Hunt?

May 4, 2009  11:00 AM ET

phillyfan5 -- Unless McNabb is given a contract extension your hopes of a great season will be a moot point. He is looking for one final BIG CONTRACT! If he does not get it, do you think he is going to be a happy camper? Don`t get me wrong, I WANT WHAT YOU WANT. But it is not the Eagles way of doing business to give over 30 veterans new contracts. Sal Palantonio said on Daily News Live on Thursday that this draft was for Kevin Kolb not McNabb. I agree because if they were serious about keeping McNabb he would have a new contract and Anquan Boldin would be our WR. Yes it was great draft, but a draft to let Kolb succeed. They will be very competitive, but I would not be surprised to see Kolb in there if McNabb has a "down period" as he did last year. Time will only tell!!

They gave up on T. Hunt last season.

Tony Hunt was cut last year.
WR Maclin is 2"taller, and 25lbs. heavier than Jackson...they are not identical.
Maclin will be able to be much more physical than Jackson.
The West coast offense is not designed to have one guy to throw the ball to. It is about creating mismatches and spreading the ball around to every WR,TE,RB, and FB.
We don't need Boldin. He is a great player, but I prefer the youth and dynamics of Maclin. He is a threat anywhere on the field, and much cheaper than Boldin. Look what they have done to the offensive line. The run game should be stellar, it will have to be respected, and this WR core is the best it has been in a long time.
Don't listen to Sal Pal either. He loves to stir the pot, and trash talk the Eagles for some strange reason.
McNabb has 2 years left on his deal. Look at the off-season additions, hell they spent almost $100 mill just on Peters and Andrews, extended Hansons contract, they got the best free agent (west coast) FB. A starting caliber safety (Jones)...and they still have to sign and pay the draft picks.
Look, McNabb can run this offense in his sleep, all that was missing was the surrounding cast. It makes no sense to finally have a team built that would give McNabb every chance to succeed, and not keep him around. If anybody thinks Kolb is the answer to a super-bowl win...just give me the gun now.

By the way...football star or not, we are all human. I believe it was during McNabb's slump in the middle of the year, that his wife was having complications with her pregnancy. Tell me you can perform your job at a high level with that weighing on your mind, and I'll call you a liar. Cut the man some slack, it was reported, and not refuted. The QB position is the exception to the 30 year old rule. Many QB's have enjoyed much success well into their 30's.

You should be sold on JM. I mean his work ethic is OUTSTANDING. He give's me a good vibe because of where he came from and what it took for him to get there. THE KID IS VERY VERY GROUNDED!!! Rags to Riches, NFL style.. Go EAGLES!!!

Peacho your not making any sense.. if this offseason proved anything, they are building the team around Mcnabb. The only thing that I can agree with you on is that only time will tell. But until then I wouldnt go around spreading this Malarky lol

I guess we can put that baby to bed.
Listening to Sal the "Hater" Pal...shame on you.

Kevin Kolb....please.
Kolb most likely will bail, or stay and sign the veteran minimum, and be the new Koy Detmer.
A professional bench-warmer.
