NFL  > Detroit Lions  > Lions '09 Prediction
May 3, 2009, 04:14 PM
Yes, I think the Lions win 4 games this year, but that's not the good news, I think they'll be COMPETITIVE in the majority of their games and that is what needs to happen more than anything for your team and fans this season.

Five picks in the top 82 should definitely equal improvement, but it will also equal rookie growing pains. I look for the Lions to be compete for the division in '10 if Stafford pans out. Having Calvin Johnson will not hurt his chances.

I am Guessing 2-14 and 3-13...but I do agree that later in the season they will be competitive.

May 4, 2009  10:44 PM ET

gonna have to go a lil bit higher i think 6 and 10 this year and much more competitive

May 4, 2009  10:47 PM ET

being from down south i am sick of the giants, eagles and especially the cheese heads, i wish detroit would go 15 and 1 and rubb there noses in it every week

May 5, 2009  12:14 PM ET

at New Orleans Saints - L
MINNESOTA VIKINGS - W
WASHINGTON REDSKINS - L
at Chicago Bears - L
PITTSBURGH STEELERS - L
at Green Bay Packers - L
** BYE ** 1 - 5 to start the season off. Good chance Stafford is given the helm.
ST. LOUIS RAMS - W
Seattle Seahawks - L
at Minnesota Vikings - L
CLEVELAND BROWNS - W
GREEN BAY PACKERS - W
Cincinnati Bengals - W
Baltimore Ravens - L
ARIZONA CARDINALS - L
San Francisco 49ers - L
CHICAGO BEARS - W

Final tally = 6 - 10 for the season, by going 5 - 5 after the bye week. To me, this is their best case scenario.

May 5, 2009  01:44 PM ET

Going with 5-11.

May 6, 2009  03:09 PM ET

With the pick up of Foote, I feel better about my 6-10 prediction.

May 7, 2009  09:26 AM ET

I think 10-6 would be good, if not better. If you're going to wish, you might as wish big huh?........No sense in settling for a losing record...........that's for losers......are the Lions going to continue being losers? Then if not, start thinking big.

Then start being positive about them........quit with the losing predictions and get positive as I said above^^

Actually, Lions fans are very realistic. The fact that we think they will have a losing record means nothing. With the new management team in place, they will need a couple of years before they will be able to get a positive record. Millen left the cupboards bare.

I understand that, but what harm does it do to wish and hope? See Miami. Certainly it can be accomplished. See also Atlanta, and Baltimore. Anyone expect the latter two teams to make the playoffs with rookie QB's and head coaches?

I agree that the odds aren't favorable, but it can be done. The players you have and drafted...............for instance, look at a couple the Cowboys found last year, and nothing was expected of them......Scandrick and Choice. A few years ago, it was Marion Barber. So, your team may have some diamonds in the rough and don't even know it yet. :-)

Whatever you do, I would not advise hiring T.O. should the Bills release him, and I expect them to, before the 2010 season, or not re sign him anyway. The Bills will implode before the season's over.

Wishing that the Lions do well is just rhetoric. And if lions fans are going to pretend they can win 10+ games next year, then what's stopping every other fan of every other team pretending the same thing? At that point, it's not predictions, just fan rhetoric. Stick your index finger out and shout "whooo!" while you're at it.

I like the prediction that they still lose a fair amount of games, but those games will be much closer. I really like the defensive steps taken. That was the biggest downfall last year. Everybody wants to slam the offense, but the offense produced last year. Kitna made the offense somewhat effective, but when the other team scores every single time they get the ball, it doesn't do any good to have a good offense. The defense, especially the secondary, was made of swiss cheese last year. Sims was the only guy worth a paycheck.

i think they can at least be 8-8

May 10, 2009  02:37 PM ET

I have siad this in other Posts..The dolphins went 1-15 then the next year won thier division,,I do honestly believe that the Lions will do that as well..look at our new roster this year..we havent had this much talent in a very long time..Im thinking 11-5

ya but now we have peterson and Foote with sims at linebacker, could be the best trio in the game this year..people said what you said about the Dolphins too,and what did they do..LOL..wait and see..Kitna sucked btw.Ya cannot throw when you are on your back and hurt.he was hurt almost all last season.Call It rhetoric call it what ya want...we here in the D sont really care what others think...we Love our Lions and support them.we have been disappointed alot in the past but we can only go up from last year,,as said in pryor comment check out our roster now!look at all the FA signings and trades and draft.Coach Schwartz and Mr Mayhew actually know what they are doing unlike the Past Management!I too also wish your football team the best of Luck this season..oh ya ya dont have one..LOL

He's a Steeler fan...........in his profile, you'll notice the groups he belongs to, which is under his.....ummmmm..............picture of whatever that is, and it lists Steeler Nation.

Lots of Steeler fans are good people..........got a couple come by and chat with me on the Cowboys site here occasionally.

May 13, 2009  12:39 PM ET

I think Detroit will win 13-3 and go to the playoff after that let me just say I will be crossiing my fingers.

May 13, 2009  02:14 PM ET

The Lions are a better team than they showed last season. Rod Marinelli and staff had awful game stratagies and made bad decisions during games. They used players in ways that didn't utilize individual skills. I give the players a lot of credit, they stuck to Rod's plan even though they knew it was a failure from day one. The team will be much improved this season.
7-9
