I thought for sure yal were going to get Crabtree. That would be an awsome trio: Russel, Mcfadden, Crabtree. Hayward came out of no were. Are you glad yal didnt get Crabtree, or know why yal didnt. I know its old news but that was buggen me.

I think quite a few insiders knew that DHB would be the pick, and since Crabtree never visited it wasn't a total shock. And from what I have read Crabtree may not have wanted to come here anyway. I'm all for taking someone who wants to be a Raider over someone who doesn't.

As for being glad, I would have been much happier if he hadn't ended up in SF.

I'm a raiders fan and i would like to play for them....they might as well have picked me. i could see picking somebody that wanted to play for us if it was a later pick but the #7 overall pick?! The way the organization has been ran since the superbowl appearance who wants to play for us? Our last 3 drafts have been less than good. If they didn't take Crabtree they should have picked Maclin in my opinion.

maclin is to short

May 7, 2009  09:50 PM ET

you don't have to be 6'4"+ to be a number one wr in the nfl. look at steve smith (carolina version) who is only 5' 9". maclin is 6' by the way

The only bad player in the last three drafts is Huff. So this talk about our bad drafts are BS!!!! We have had better than most teams drafts. Its damned if you do damned if you dont. If They would have gotten an OT in the first, a DT in the second, a SS in the third, everybody (draft gurus too) would say why didnt you get a WR. We drafted for need with our picks and obviously we had more than a few, but I think we went in the right direction. Our defense was great as long as our offense kept them off the field run defense included. Those teams who ran on us ran on us late in games not early. Think about the carolina game a 4thQ 60 yard run lost the game, Bolts a late run by a RB lost the game. If the offense score a touchdown more per game which translates into about a 5-7 min more ball possession we are 8-8+ and maybe win the division. We got wore down late in games. So if we keep our discipline and gaps late in game and the offense helps we win and that is a coaching issue not player personell.

I'm not sure what to think of Crabtree, DHB, or Maclin. Obviously Cable and Friends did some type of research, whether it be workouts or whatever, and they think that DHB will be a big time player. I sure hope so, but as any diehard Raider fan, I'm skeptical. I'll always love my Raiders, though.

May 8, 2009  03:42 PM ET

DHB and the other Raiders draft this year are all character guys. Guys who are leaders of their teams, hard workers, 1st in last out mentality.

Was I shocked we didn't take Crabtree, heck yes. But after everything is said and done, and I had a chance to review what the Raiders did, then I am glad we took DHB, yes we could of traded down some and still got him, but i have a feeling their wasn't any offers to move down, so we took who we targeted. the hard working 1st in 1st out type of guy over the Head case and the Whinner !

P.S. You figure out who was the head case & whinner, cause I know who they are !

May 8, 2009  07:09 PM ET

Both Maclin and Crabtree will be better than DHB. Oakland always blows their first round pick on garbage except for Asomugha. McFadden might be good and I doubt that Russell turns into the franchise qb that we're hoping for.

May 9, 2009  04:15 PM ET

I believe there were several factors which played into the selection. Now I'm not saying I totally agree with it, but when you consider DHB played in a pro-style offense, his stats were garbage due to crap QBs, a heavily relied upon runningback offense, and his arse was double-teamed all the time, you can see there are reasons why to doubt the skeptics. Plus, what draft analysts ever take chances on long shots? None! Especially Mel Kipers punk arse. The man knows jack shyte about drafting and it has been proven year in and year out.

Also, many have said they do not know where this "bad hands" theory comes from. DHB did not drop that many passes. BUT we'll all see when this season comes!

last time i checked the raiders are a run heavy offense....and jamarcus russell isn't exactly a stud at qb. maybe i would care about the type of offense a team ran if we were taking a qb out of the spread but a wr?.....crabtree is who the raiders should have picked but once again they dropped the ball

May 15, 2009  02:30 PM ET

DHB wasn't a bad pick, for all we know Crabtree will be terrible. The raiders wanted to trade down but nobody wanted to trade up and DHB would have been gone before the 2nd round so they took him while they still could

May 15, 2009  06:05 PM ET

The way I hear it DHB didn't have the O around him that the other two had so comparisons are not all that clear. A bigger concern IMO is JR. I hope I'm wrong but I see him as another Leftwich - strong arm and very mediocre.

Anyone who thinks the raiders make good draft decisions just look at their 1st round picks going back to 1999. Without counting JR and MFD they had 10 picks with only one of them good (Nnamdi in 2003) and 9 busts. I don't see how raider fans can be impressed with that unless JR, MFD and DHB all turn out to be exceptional, in which case big Al is on an upswing.
