OK...

So I know that we all agree the Cardinals need more pitching.

But in a stretch where the pitching staff is doing an admirable job, I'd like to take a chance to direct our attention elsewhere...

According to multiple sources (including Fannation's own T&R), the Marlins are looking to wheel and deal. While it's unlikely they'd be willing to part with any of their starting pitching (they usually don't deal those guys until AFTER they've won their championship), other position players might be available.

Tell me...

How good would Hanley Ramirez look with the Birds on Bat pasted across his chest?

I know, I know...

It's a bit optimistic. I mean, why would they deal their franchise player? Especially when he's locked up for so long for so cheap? But hey, there were some rumblings that he wasn't getting along all that well with management's "new rules" earlier in the year. And he definitely has the most value of anyone on their squad...

Now I have no idea what kind of package the Cardinals would be able to put together to get a player of his caliber...but it's still a nice thought. Right? I mean, especially with all the problems we've had in finding a suitable replacement since Ozzie retired, and it wouldn't be the first time we snatched up a promising young Marlin shortstop (Edgar Renteria anyone?). But I still concede that it's very unlikely...

Uggla on the other hand...

Ol' Ugly Uggla hasn't done much since his wretched night in the field during last year's All-Star game. But he's still someone that pitchers have to think about every nine batters. I'm not sure he's exactly what Tony Larussa is looking for in a secondbaseman, but he would definitely fill the void left in our lineup if we were to trade Ankiel or Ludwick away for pitching...

Like I said, I know that we all want the Cards to go out and land a top half of the rotation type starter, but it's fun to take a minute and think about the other options out there.

Leaving out their starting rotation...What other Marlins would you like to see at a Busch Stadium near you?
