NFL  > New England Patriots  > Brady's throwing at camp!! :)
May 26, 2009, 12:01 PM
The most refreshing and exciting thing to witness in a long time was watching Tom Brady throw the ball around yesterday. He looked to be setting his feet comfortably and is well on his way to being fully recovered.

What do you guys think his biggest obstacle coming up this season is going to be?

I think once he takes that first big hit or has to scramble outside the pocket for the first time and realizes his knee is going to hold up and he's healed, we'll get back to vintage Tom!
May 26, 2009  12:23 PM ET

The refs will give him special treatment..which will be lame for the people who want to play football.

Vintage Tom? I doubt it, hope so...but its never that easy.

True it is never that easy. But its the NFL's fault for the treatment that qbs get. Not Brady's. I don't like the restrictions on the defense like they have them. But what can you do?

May 27, 2009  05:13 PM ET

QBs are the most vulnerable on the field and by requirement of the position wear some of the least padding. The rules are there to stop serious injuries; because serious injuries put people off from the games. Losing Brady hurt the league last year in that their coverage went down, so much that we had to hear about Brady even though he wasn't even playing. Like him or not, he is the face of the league; talented, charismatic, skilled, on a championship team, breaking records, very politically correct and married to a supermodel, which gets him coverage just about everywhere sports doesn't.

Should be an interesting year, seeing if NE moves back to the top or hover around the top 4-6 (biggest sign of the start of the decline of a "dynasty").

They haven't been at the top in 5 years.

"What do you guys think his biggest obstacle coming up this season is going to be?"

I think the biggest obstacle of all for him will be to wake up from a bed (in which Gisele will lay nearby) and going to camp to trow ball with the guys and possibly being hit again.

My biggest fear was that he had nothing else to prove. he spent a full season out, and just knowing he is already a HOF player. He is already as rich as he can get (between his and Gisele money, what's a couple million more or less?); he has a new baby , and I really was affraid he would not return to the lineup.

But Boy, I am sure glad I was wrong!

They were only 1 game off of Pittsburgh last year and they were missing a lot of players and arguably the number 1 QB in the league. (while I acknowledge Breese and a few others).

If they miss the playoffs or finish in 6th place back then you could say they are falling, but they were 1 miracle away from a perfect season the year before and as I recall they beat the piss out of the Steelers that year. (34-13 and Brady went for 399 yds) A team with and without Brady are two very different teams; the Steelers and the Colts know all about that now dont they?

Well nords21 I wouldn't call 34-13 (19 point differential) beating the piss out of someone, considering the pats put up a lot of 50+ point games that year with 30+ point differentials, the Steelers were clearly a good team that year and have been good for most of the 21st Century as well.

Although, to say that the Pats haven't been at the top in a while is just moronic, but what else should I expect from a Pittsburgh fan. Just to put it in perspective for you...

Patriots- AFC champs in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007. Super Bowl Champs in 2001, 2003, 2004. Thats better than the Steelers as AFC champs in 2005, 2008 and Super Bowl champs in 2005, 2008.

Go Giants!

yes we know i saw it on channel 4 with big tim ron burton

One thing you gotta understand about Brady us that he thrives on competition. He's also humble in an incredibly driven self-assured way (maybe that's what people mean when they say Tom's politically correct).

Regardless, He's on a mission from God!!! He wants to end the justifiably reasonable arguments we all get into about who's tha greatest of all time. I wouldn't bet against another 2 or more rings , 2 more MVP's and later moving into TV and/or politics. WHo really cares? The most fun is watching and joining in on the fun during his creation of a legacy unsurpassed in the annals of the game.

Sure, I'm a Patriot fan from Sweden, who thanx to the Internet can finally follow all the games & playoffs as well as read most of the news and articles from the whole NFL.

Be happy we get to see him and against such great competition as Peyton Manning, Big Ben, Drew Brees, Rivers and more on the way to great careers. Having said that I still see TB as being a cut above because he has IT!!!

I don't think it's moronic at all. I think it's moronic to say they have been at "the top" for the past 5 years. "The Top" is Super Bowl Champions. Conference Champions and great regular seasons is "near the top". MATTUSA is correct when saying they haven't been "at the top" for 5 years. Right now the Steelers are at the top. Also, this whole BS about the Steelers not being able to beat Tom Brady is also a load of crap. He beat the Steelers in ONE AFC Championship, and that was when the Steelers had a rookie QB. I know there weren't many Patriots fans when before Brady won his first SB so most of them forget that Drew Bledsoe played when they beat the Steelers the first time. Also, that same year the Steelers "beat the piss" out of Tom Brady and the Patriots during the regular season. Since after Roethlisberger's rookie year the Super Bowl count is Big Ben and Steelers 2 Tom Brady and Patriots 0. I say the Patriots can't beat Ben Roethlisberger.

If we're talking about history then I'll also put into perspective for you.

6 Super Bowls is better than 3. Who cares about any of that. The Steelers are defending Super Bowl champs right now and if you're going to use the "Tom Brady wasn't playing" excuse then explain why the Steelers have TWO Super Bowl victories since the last time New England won one. Like I said before, since after Big Ben's rookie year, the Steelers have been the most successful and best team in the NFL. Tom Brady and New England's dynasty is old news. It's over. Get over it.

Delusional, I see.

New England's "dynasty" MIGHT be over, but Tom Brady and New England are still very relevant. Accept it.

I'm so happy that Brady is throwing in camp and he's bumping a TL thread off the first page of posts. Please don't bring those back up.

When did I say New England and Tom Brady aren't relevant? Of course they're relevant. The Giants, Colts, Chargers and Eagles are also relevant but that doesn't mean they're currently a dynasty.

What usually defines a dynasty is a team that over 5+ years has won the majority of the championships in that time. The Patriots were classified a dynasty after 2006, 3 championships in 5 years. In 2007 they were about to become undefeated and have won 4 in 6 seasons, one of the most dominant teams on the field in the history of the game. NYG stopped that with good defense and a miracle play. 2008 came around and the Patriots were slated to repeat a near perfect season based on everyone who watches the game... the Brady goes down. Now they only have 1 championship in the past 5, so I guess that its not a dynasty... but by that definition, neither are the Steelers unless they can win another this year.

June 1, 2009  07:56 PM ET

So basically, all the Pittsburgh hockey and football fans can "get over it" as you say. Think the Wings will sweep?

Maybe or maybe not. That's in the eye of the beholder. The thing is that as long as Brady is healthy, and he has the weapons he has to work with, New England is in strong contention every year, and it's not a stretch to say that some more Super Bowl wins are very possible. Perhaps the 2000s dynasty is over, but a 10s dynasty isn't out of the question.

The Patriots haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004. I agreed that the Pats were a dynasty but I stated that the dynasty is over now. I think it's safe to say it's over 5 years after they've won their last super bowl. I don't think it matters that the Patriots lost because the Giants had a miracle play or Brady got hurt. That's all part of what makes it so hard to become a dynasty. Who's to say the Steelers wouldn't have won back to back Super Bowls in '05 and '06 if Ben wouldn't have had his motorcycle crash and appendectomy? I don't think the Steelers are a dynasty right now (yet). I do think they have a really good chance of getting there this year though.

Now watch him go and tear his ACL on opening day. Wouldn't that be timely?
