NCAAB  > General NCAAB  > the need for deferred salary and/or clawback provisions to reduce cheating by coaches who them move on
May 29, 2009, 12:09 PM
Proposal: THe employment contract for every college coach (certainly in Div I revenue sports-and arguably in all sports) should provide for deferred salary and/or clawback (ex post facto recovery of salary) to reduce cheating by coaches who then move to another school as the NCAA is about to levy sanctions.

Example-half of a coaches (multi-million dollar) salary could be deferred for , say three to five years, and would be paid in full-with appropriate interest, if the sanctions are levied due to infactions during that coaches' tenure.

An alternative-sanctions should follow the coach (harder to implement).

See Memphis/Kentucky, Oklahoma/Indiana

The athletes, admins, alums, etc. of the first school ends of paying the price of the sanctions visited upon the institution, but earned by the coach-who has since moved on.
