Do you agree? What do you think the biggest mistake of all time was?

You nailed it. End of Thread.

Randy Moss? Blah...he can stay on a cheaters team.

June 4, 2009  09:45 PM ET

Having Skeletor for an owner.

June 5, 2009  10:03 AM ET

1st off, Skeletor, AKA Jerry Jones is a good owner...he is a risk taker and some of those pay off and others hurt.

Just because Randy Moss was good elsewhere doesnt mean jack in Dallas because we didnt have a QB til Bledsoe came to town and even then, Tony Romo took that job from him.

Greg Ellis was a solid NFL player for Dallas for 11 seasons. He averaged 8+ sacks a year during that span and was a team leader on D.

Other than the Tent fiasco, the biggest mistake in Cowboy history was the Joey Galloway trade that cost us 2 first round picks.

I think the biggest mistake Jerry Jones did was fire Tom Landry. Granted, it was about time for Landry to move on, but he could have been convinced to retire, instead of being fired, and he wouldn't have been publicly humiliated. Jones would have then been looked at a bit differently.

"Randy Moss has gone on to catch 843 passes for 13,201 yards and 135 touchdowns"

For 3 different teams. And the Vikings had a good QB situation. I don't know if Moss being on the team would have kept Aikman healthy as he already had a long history of concussions. It's it's not like we chose someone who was a bust, and it's not like we were at the #2 pick, there were 20ish teams who also passed on Moss.

Let's move things forward. Maybe we would have had some success with Moss for the first 2 or 3 years, and maybe even a Super Bowl Victory. Then the defense was aging, people were injured/dieing/retiring, and sure we wouldn't have traded for Galloway, but who would we have drafted to replace Aikman in those 2 drafts? Chad Pennington was taken at 18 in the first round that year, then Giovanni Carmazzi, Chris Redman in the 3rd, Tee Martin in the 5th, Mark Bulger in the 6th, and in 2001 Vick, Brees, Quincy Carter, Tuiasosopo, Weike, Rosenfels, Palmer (not Carson), Feely and Booty.

Are you going to tell me Moss wasn't going to demand a trade when he see's Quincy fluttering balls coming at him. Sure we might have picked up Brees late in the first round, but it took him 3 years before becoming good enough, and he's only in the last 3 years become very good.

All this conjecture is just a big back of crap.

Yeah, it shouldn't have gone down that way. But it certainly did send a message that things were going to be different. And I grew up with Jimmy Johnson more than I did with Landry, so I have less issue with it than others.

Should I say it? I've been debating and yes- I should.

The biggest mistake in Cowboys history was being in the same division as the MIGHTY REDSKINS!!!!!

uh oh, I sense a storm approaching...

And different they were indeed. Winning a few SB's helped ease the resentment Jones created, because Landry was an icon, not just in Texas, but just about anywhere. I started watching the 'Boys when Meredith was the QB, and faintly remember Eddie LeBaron. Yes, I'm old....lol

I don't have an issue with it anymore, because I finally realized I couldn't change it anyway. Jimmy Johnson is a hometown boy anyway, growing up and playing football (Port Arthur, Texas, same hometown as Janis Joplin) about 25 miles or so from where I'm from.

If you knew anything about the Dallas Cowboys you would know Jerry was forced to fire him because Clint Murchison hated Landry. The only way Jerry could buy the team was to promise to fire Landry on the first day of ownership. Dont believe me? Read Boys Will Be Boys then see how bad of an owner you think Jerry is.

Jerry has 3 Rings, how many do you have?

Yes, you should proclaim it, and loud too............You got to get louder than that...........

"I can't hear you!!" ................(Quoted from the Sgt of Gomer Pyle)

Oh, by the way............when Hurricane Ike came through here last year, we evacuated up to Lufkin, Tx and stayed in a church shelter for a few days, til power came back on at home. We were "guarded" by the National Guard and one guardsman there was a Redskins fan, and he found out I was a Cowboy fan. The following Monday night game was between the Boys and the Eagles, when the Cowboys beat them the first game. He and I heckled each other the whole game, as he was pulling for the Eagles, for some reason, but it was all in good fun.

He was a decent Redskin fan and human being, not only taking defeat graciously, but also providing protection for all the evacuees there. I tip my hat to him, wherever he is.

Just thought I'd tell that story for all the haters out there.

Laffin.......I could write fiction stories too, if I had the inclination. You shouldn't believe everything you read or hear. If Murchison hated Landry, then pray tell why did he give him a 10 year contract extension? That makes no sense. Peter Gent wrote stories too........ North Dallas Forty................they will write anything to sell books. Sounds like someone was trying to make excuses for what happened.

Jimmy Johnson should have 3 rings, but had to share one with Barry. Jones only was the owner back then.If he wouldn't have been such a glory hound, he could have been sporting 2 or 3 more rings, but he couldn't contain himself when he said "500 coaches could coach this team and win SB's"....(or words to that effect)....so, pray tell once again, where are all the SB's with the coaches after Johnson?

I really dislike when people try to put words in my mouth........I never once said Jones was a "bad owner"...re read my post............

I have my wedding ring, and that's all that matters to me.

June 5, 2009  04:01 PM ET

Well, back in 2001 Clint Stoerner tossed an incompletion on the first day of spring drills that set into motion a chain of events so bizarre, so far-reaching, so sinister, that the Dallas Cowboys have never fully recovered.

"..........Jones only was the owner back then........."

I take that back....he was also the GM as well.

Typical response from an ignoramus. When was the last time you actually read a book cover to cover? High School?

Tom Landry was an old curmudgeon who took his position for granted. He was an **** who time had passed by. He had no respect for authority and it trickled down through the team and eventually poisoned the franchise. Like someone said above me, Jerry was setting a precedent. NO ONE was safe and that was critical to the team's success in the coming decade. Johnson needed that to make his style a legitimate force inside the lockeroom.

Reading, its fundamental.

btw the biggest mistake the Cowboys ever made was Quincy Carter.

Must be from the "Boys will be Boys" book mentioned above?

I wholeheartedly agree that Carter was a mistake...........no ifs ands or buts about that.
