Nice post!
Yeah it's going to be a tough year... but I like that we are not considered the rising star of the league going into this year as we were last year... which just made the terrible year even worse!
I would be very happy with a 7 win season... However, I am just hoping to see us picking strategies and sticking with them to give them a chance to work. I would rather see a 5 win season if we were continually improving than a 7 or 8 win season where we are changing our approach every week and playing a gimicky game.
I hope you're right about the blow out - however... I expect we will get blown out by a team or two considering injuries and what the Steelers are capable of when healthy.
I agree on Alex Mack - love is a stong word... but it was a good pick... and getting out of the top 5 was really smart.
I think Robiski will do well enough for us as a #3... I wish we had ONE receiver I was really confident in right now.... that's my biggest gripe with WR's. Maybe this will be Edwards year... super glue might help :)
Robiskie is 6'3", 209# and Webster Slaughter was 6'1" 170#. I don't know how the two match up in speed, but I think with Brian's field smarts, he will make an excellent addition to the team. I predict that in a year or two, he will be a top team leader.

Anyone else comments, or their own random thoughts?
Welcome to the board!
1. I think the Browns will probably have a 6-8 win season. I like the depth that has been added to this team. A little competition for a starting spot goes a long way in this league. Most of these guys are used to being one of, if not THE, best player on their teams through the years, so competition should elevate their play. We have an easier schedule than last year, so the wins should improve.
2. Worst case scenario for Mack: he shares time with Fraley or sits out this year. He'll still be learning the system from the coaches and the vets, so he is still the future center. I look for him to start, but if the new guards can help Fraley out he will improve from last year.
3. Robiskie runs clean routes and is football savvy. Most of the receivers last year were never in the right place, or they were on the wrong page with the QB. I think that he will make an early impact on this team.
I didn't Robiskie was that tall. He just never seemed to tower over opponent when I watched play at OSU. And there was never a moment when I was wowed by him. Maybe that's a good thing and Robiskie will be a Jurevicius type who catches the balls thrown at him. There's something to be said for that. I hope to be proven wrong that he was drafted too high.
Another worry I have is about the running game. Jamal Lewis is not getting any younger, and although I like Jerome Harrison and see him as a contributor on offense, I don't see him getting more than 10 or 12 touches a game. I don't watch a lot of ACC football. Anyone got anything on James Davis?

We had a lengthy discussion on James Davis on the thread, "Top 3 Things Cleveland Needs to do Now," or something like that. Basically, from what I remember reading about the kid is that he either is a lot like Jamal Lewis, but 20 pounds lighter. He's a work horse, but he was a victim of a new offensive system his senior year, which was not running back friendly. However, he did lead the team in rushing. He has several ACC awards, and the guy is solid at holding onto the football. Depending on what website you look at, he has either had 0 or 2 fumbles in almost 800 carries. Most say that he has zero. Until he puts on some mass, he will probably only be a back-up, but he should help keep JL fresh in the fourth quarter if he can get some quality touches to help save some of the pounding that he gets.
For what it's worth, he also went to the same high school as Jamal. He's said to have a strong work ethic, and being under JL's wing doesn't hurt either. They should motivate each other.
First of all, nice post and good points. I politely disagree about Robiske. Although I think they may have took him a little too soon, I think he will be a good receiver. He is very smart and had great years before his senior year when Pryor took over and they didn't throw the ball half as much. I am not even about to predict a number of wins because I think it is impossible. There is always a team or two who go from 3-13 to 13-3. Why not the Browns? And I still see some of these defensive picks coming in and doing some nice things. And we added some depth in the secondary.
Speaking of Edwards, this is kind of off of the topic but I recently started playing in a flag football league and purchased some receiver gloves. How does any receiver drop a ball with these things? Again sorry about the random rant but next time you find yourself at a sporting goods store, check them out if you haven't already.

LOL well that's a good question... athough (and again... I Hope this isn't the case for Edwards) if you put a brick in those gloves and threw a ball at them... I bet the ball would bounce off.
There's also the threat of some 200+ pound guy flying through the air at your head that might also alter the effectiveness of the equipment.
Whatever it is.... I hope, for all our sakes, Braylon gets comfortable this year....
The reason I don't think the Browns will be one of the quick turnaround teams is because they play in the AFC North. The conference schedule will be tough with Baltimore and Pittsburgh. You may say that Baltimore did a quick turnaround last season, but Baltimore had a top 5 defense heading into the season, something the Browns lack. Now, I think this is the year we steal one from Pittsburgh, but we probably go 2-4 in the conference. It's hard to make that leap playing Super Bowl caliber teams every other week.
I do like what the Browns did with the defense through the draft. And I also like picking up Hood, Barton and Elam. So the D will be better this year, but not dominant.

Even those yellow dish washing gloves would make catching the ball easier (had a friend who did that). Good point about the WR gloves...honestly chuckled out loud about that.
This will be a tough year for our brownies, but I think we are goin in the right direction. This might be the 5th or 6th time we have been goin in "the right direction" since we came back to life. I think manginis system is gonna stick with these players. After we establish our QB (either Quinn or Anderson or even Ratliff????) and our defense continues to grow and improve ...we might GASP start seeing the browns of the mid and late 80s .....wouldnt that be something.

Let the games begin!!! September can't come soon enough.
If Braylon stays and and Robiskie is our #2 WR, Robiskie may actually put up numbers that warrant Offensive Rookie of the Year looks. This guy was a steal for the Browns!!!

How's it going all, been away a while... Any way, I agree with a lot of what is being said. My hope is 6-8 wins, I think the Browns will surprise a lot of people this year. I like what Mangini is doing and you got to love the depth on the team right now.
Being a huge Buckeye fan, I love the Robiski pick. I do think they reached a bit, but I believe it will be a reach that pays dividens.
MattJonesDashboard, I do think he will be a Jurevicius type receiver and I agree with JohnnySeoul that he could have ROTY type numbers, but a lot of that depends on who our starting QB is and I just wish they would put a name there already.
Competition is good, but there comes a point when you need to know who's going to be the man. It gives him a little confidence and the team feels a little more confident knowing who it will be.
Go Browns!!

Welcome back :) Yeah we have had some hearty discussion on this matter. I really think the ONE thing the Browns have done really well is undermine the confidence of every quarterback we have had since we have returned to Cleveland. How's that been working for us? So what do we do now? We undermine the confidence of Quinn, who should be given the chance he never got last year to string a number of games together with this as his team.
I will withhold my thoughts on Mangini until I see how the season goes. What I do like is he has head coaching experience (we aren't training a new guy), and he apparently is taking some kind of approach to the team (not flip-flopping). So... let's see how it goes.
I absolutely hate that they have not picked a starting QB yet. The only thing that could mean is no one is a standout.
Donte' Stallworth pleaded guilty and began serving a 30-day jail sentence today. After that, I would expect the NFL to have him sit out 3 or 4 games. Then he will probably be back. I would also expect him to be allowed to participate in the pre-season.

I think the suspension will be longer than that.... and then we will have to see what this has done to his focus. I know there are a lot of people out there that are outraged by the plea bargain, and I am not going to get into that here.... but it's gonna be a rough ride for him in ever city outside of Cleveland, and he's never really had that kind of focus placed on him.
Honestly, I am expecting him to be a disaster... and hoping for better.
I hope that Stallworth can return and contribute to this team. You're right BuckAye; other cities are going to boo the crap out of him. Hopefully this will be the slice of humble pie that gets him back on track. I think that the plea bargain was a bit too soft, but Florida law is what it is. I think that he is truly remorseful, though. He has a steep hill to climb on this one.
