2009 PATS DRAFT ORDER : CHUNG / BRACE / BUTLER / VOLMER / TATE / McKENZIE OHRNBERGER / BUSSEY / INGRAM / / PRYER / EDELMEN / RICHARD

Now that Mini-Camp is here -
I thought it might be interesting to give a final breakdown on how the 2009 drafted rookies got here.
PATRIOTS 2009 DRAFT TRADES :
A ) Cassel / Vrabel trade = Db Patrick Chung ( # 34 overall )
B ) Moving back twice in 1st round ( trades with Ravens # 23 & Packers # 26 ) =
Db Darius Butler( # 41 ), Wr Brandon Tate ( # 83 ) , Qb J Edelman ( # 232 )
& 2010 Jags 2nd rounder ~
It also made E Hobbs expendable ( Butler )
Which resulted in the 2 Eagle's picks being parlayed into :
OT Ohrnberger ( # 123 ) & LS Jake Ingram ( # 198 )
C ) Pats second 2nd rounder (acquired via 2008 Chargers trade : # 47 )
Packaged with 4th & 6th rounders = Ron Brace ( # 40 )
D ) Pats trade their natural 3rd rounder to Titans for 2100 2nd rounder .

Total of 7 Draft weekend trades = 7 players ( plus two 2010 2nd rounders )
( 5 other players aquired via natural draft position selection / compensatory = 12 Overall )
Note : Tyrone McKenzie ( # 97 ) selected with 3rd round compensatory pick
Aquired from loss of A. Samuel / D. Stallworth
( 5th rounder Bussey ( 170 ) & 6th rounder DT M Pryer ( 207 ) also selected )
Of the 7 officially designated picks -
The Pats held and used only their natural 2nd rounder ( Volmer # 58 )
and natural 7th rounder( D Richard # 234 ) .

2009 DRAFT = ( 2 DB's / 3 DT 's / 3 O-Line / 1 LB / 1 WR / 1QB / 1 LS )

No ...but I remember being in the parking lot at Foxboro Stadium before Tom Brady's first start in 2001 ( Against the Colts ...the week they resumed NFL Play after 911 ) . The 2-0 Colts had wrung up like 90 points in their first two games while the 0-2 Pats had just lost Bledsoe for an undetermined amount of time and were starting some unknown Qb named Brady . The big joke circulating a couple hours before k/o was that the Colts were already up by two scores ...hah,ha,ha . It was a chilly , gray , and windy afternoon and I recall watching Manning's pre-game ritual with Harrison . He was throwing wobbly , inaccurate passes and almost got Harrison killed on their last heave before heading into the locker room ... an overthrown bomb that led Marvin right toward the cement wall at the back of the end zone ( He made the catch and spun inwards toward the tunnell missing the wall by inches ). As it turned out -the Brady led PATS crushed the Colts that day by 30 points and the rest ...as they say ... Is History .

I really hope Brady returns with the same mindset. I have a feeling he will; but you just never know if pressure and the thought of another injury to his knee is going to force an extra few game changing interceptions.

The reason Brady stood out against Bledsoe was because he was willing to take a hit and move around the pocket in order to extend the play and make the better decision. If he comes back even with a little fear, he will be Bledsoe 2.0 and make great plays and some of the worst passes you have ever seen under pressure.

Brady will be fine. Once he gets hit for the first time he'll be even better. He's not the one I'm worried about. Its the offensive unit as a whole that concerns me. The whole unit has a big bulls eye on it.

Bryan Cox, now thats a name I hadn't thought of in a while. Similiar to his hit in the Colts game, I remember early in the Super Bowl against the Rams - he nearly disassembled one of their fleet receivers on a crossing pattern. After that, the Rams abandoned crossing patterns. Too bad the Pats had him at the end of his career (although, he was a bit of nut bag especially in his early years).
