NFL  > Oakland Raiders  > Let's bash Al Davis today
June 11, 2009, 12:39 PM
Let it be known I was a die-hard Raider fan until this man started to lose touch with reality around about 1988 and went over the deep end in 1994 by firing Bill King (the greatest radio announcer ever).

I'll start.

Al Davis is an egotistical tyrant that rules his flock with fear, either your loyal to the letter or your run out of town. Hitler did the same thing, no one had the guts to tell him he was wrong out of fear.

Al's draft day picks are so bizarre they have the rest of the league dumbfounded and laughing their butts off.

Players love to get paid and spend his money; actually playing football up to their potential is a different manner. JaMarcus has got the 'bling' thing down pat, full length fur coats, jewelery etc.

Detroit has won 2 more games in the last 6 seasons as the Raiders., (Matt Millen has done a better job than Al).

If you hate Davis like me here is a cool nugget.

When the city of Miami built Joe Robbie stadium Al started to get his own stadium, that was around 1985.

He is still trying.

About that draft
"You can't protect long enough to throw the football, fifth-five, sixty-yards down the field. It doesn't work. That formula, run, run, run, suck 'em up, throw it over their head, doesn't work. It doesn't work anywhere, and hasn't worked for years. That's why the best offensive coaches in this league offense understand the horizontal stretch as well as a vertical stretch. You have balance your offense to move the chains."
In the end, the Raiders own one of the worst first-day drafts since returning from Los Angeles. Check back in 3-to-5 years.

Let's bash Raider haters instead. Apparently, you didn't die hard enough. When the Raiders are good again you are not allowed to root for them. Seriously, stay away. Those of us who still love them don't need you or want you around. So the Raiders have been bad lately. So what? Shut up and take it like a man. Otherwise you are just the worst thing in sports: a fair weather fan.

First off I wasn't bashing the Raiders, I am bashing the owner that ruin a great franchise.

Don't worry about seeing my at games, I don't feel comfortable wearing cardboard shoulder pads covered in foil and plastic skulls, wearing face paint and carring a cardboard sword also covered in foil. Alcoa must love you trick or treaters.

As for when your winning again, good luck with that.

There isn't a program or team on teh planet that can't improve some aspect of the operation. A fan of any team in any sport has the right to be critical of activities with a negative impact on the operation.

Vent away, Hammered.

It just shows you got enough brains to identify what is wrong, enough heart to want it changed, and enough courage to face the backlash from mindless lemmings, and enough pride to want better, and enough loyalty to stick with the team through good times and bad.

June 11, 2009  03:16 PM ET

hmmm i cant rly bash them i just kinda feel bad 4 them

maybe this is the year they get 8 wins

Thanks for letting me know where you stand. The battle lines are now drawn. On one side are fans who love the Raiders unconditionally. On the other side are fair weather fans like Hammered and PSUin1984. Where do YOU stand?

Funny... .I don't care at all about the Raiders one way or another. I'm just talking about principle, and the rights of a fan to be critical of their team. And still be a fan.

Agreed, fans have the right to be criticial of Owners/Coaches/Players and still be fans.

The problem with the Raiders is the owner, he ruined a great franchise and should be called out on it.

Fair weather do you know the stats of this team? Let give you a few.

1966 to 1985
3 superbowl wins in 7 years
9 out 10 years they won the AFC west
1 losing season
Staggering .740 winning percentage best in all of sports.

Last 23
11 Losing seasons
8 seasons with more than 10 losses, current streak of 6 (11 loss Seasons) League record
5 (8-8) seasons
2 (9-7) seasons
3 AFC Championship games (only managed a field goal in 2)
1 wopping Superbowl loss by almost 30 points.

Yea the last 23 years would be good for a lot of teams but not the Raiders they set the bar way above those numbers.

That wouldn't be Gators on Liberty in Pittsburgh would it? Thought that was a 'Gator' bar as in Florida Gator?

Here's a stat:
In 7 attempts, Hammered_everynight and PSUin1984 failed to complete a post that proved they are anything but whiny sellouts with no heart. They haven't even denied it.

You sir do not read what was written here, your reaction is childish at best. You don't seem to get that critisim of a owner that is living in the past does not mean bashing of the team.
Sheesh

And in three posts, IHFWF has failed to read a single word with objectivity or show any reading comprehension....

* I am not a fan of the Raiders, never have been.
* I am critical of my teams when they suck. For example, as an Eagles fan (ahem... not a Raiders fan...), I like Andy Reid. I wanted Rich Kotite fired. I love the current salary cap philosophy. I love the defensive philosophy. I loved their draft. I don't like the offense relying so heavily on two (great) players. I HATE the lack of a two-minute offense. I HATE that they've been so thin at WR until now. I've been a fan since I was 7 or 8. The Raiders were a better team in 1980. The Eagles were a better team, IMO, in 2005.

See... I can objectively view positives and negatives in a team and still be a fan. Try it.

June 12, 2009  12:59 PM ET

Al Davis, we see how insane he ran his team. Where the Raiders are now. They are still behind the Lions on loses. The Lions who went 0-16 last year still has more wins. What is up with that?

What is funny is Jerry Jones is doing all of Al Davis's mistakes and acting the same way. Cowboys will be the Raiders now in 10 years.

June 12, 2009  01:59 PM ET

I'm pretty sure I read this right. This thread is about Al Davis - NOT the Raiders?

I have sorrow for Raiders fans. I was Raider~Hater back when they were outstanding and the Seahawks were in the AFC West. It was one of the best rivalries on the west coast. Nordstrom's even hired their SB coach away at one point. (Nordstroms used to own the Seahawks) I'm sad for the Raiders fans these days BECAUSE of Al Davis. There seems to be no relief in sight for the team until he has passed on. He's not senile, nor is he standing in the corner drooling or have Alzheimers disease. He has, however, lost touch with the game. It has passed him by. But he has publically stated he will "NOT" step down until the Raiders win 2 more Super Bowls. That has long term implications.
Because he is 80 years old, his mom lived until the ripe old age of 101. So I believe he has AT LEAST another 20 or so years left on this planet. She also had all her faculties when she passed away. Which leads me to believe AL wil also retain his faculties until death.
So .... in summary - Al is going to live and control the Raiders for another 20 years - Or until they win another 2 Super Bowls

I don't see why there even has to be a "line drawn" between the fans of a certain team. I have to agree that Al Davis should be put out to pasture, because, being a fan of football for over 40 years, I know how good the Raiders were at one time. They aren't anymore, and likely will continue to be "non competitive" unless Al turns the reins over to someone who can right the ship. His time has come and gone.

I'm not disrespecting the Raiders. Or the fans. But, your owner has lost it. Jerry Jones is losing it as well, if he hasn't already. I criticize him all the time. I have that right to do that, and so does Hammered, and anyone else. It's okay to agree to disagree. That's what the freedom of speech is all about.

What about me? I'm an outsider looking in..........I'm not a fan of the Raiders, but I can see what's happening to them. I'm not blind, and there are many others who likely wonder why the Raiders aren't getting competitive. They should be by now.

June 14, 2009  02:18 PM ET

Nobody loves the Raiders more than me,but I have gotten to the point where i have no defense for the actions of one Al Davis. All of the good times I have experienced in the past 40 years have been erased by his recent blunders. The firing of Kiffin, the past 5 drafts, and the total disregard for us diehards that makeup the greatest fan base of them all "THE RAIDER NATION". The worst part is as hard as I have tried to find another team the only team for me is the Raiders . (unless he moves back to L.A. again and if he does then they need to change their name because the RAIDERS belong to OAKLAND not Al Davis)So in closing PLEASE Al sell the team to somebody who cares as much as you do but can run this great franchise with the wisdom it needs at this time.

June 14, 2009  02:49 PM ET

Al is trying to win the big game before he dies, thats all. He thinks he can do it with speed alone. He drafts players that are good, but not players that fit into his scheme, what ever that may be. What is the Raiders identity? are they a running team? are they a passing team???????? Hmmmm. Sorry Raider fans, the outlook for this season is darker than last years.
Go Steelers!!!

June 14, 2009  11:43 PM ET

Where did their "Greatness" come from? Was it not some guy named, Wait a minute, you said he ruined this team. How quickly we forget. How many of you Al Haters want Favre to hang it up now that he's too old as well.
