MLB  > General MLB  > The Cost of the Game

Just a quick question for everyone out there...it's not JUST baseball related but sports in general. Are athletes truly worth the ridiculous amounts of money that they are being paid? I would just like to point out that in 2007, the average salary was $2,824,751 and the MINIMUM salary for the 2008 season was $390,000! This is just outrageous to me, in these tough economic times no single person should be worth THAT much money. Yes, they are our entertainment, but entertainers should be doing it for the LOVE of the game, not the dollar bills. They play sports for a living, and have fun, it's not stressful, they play a child's game...Just a few days ago Renaldo was basically bought for 131 million dollars, a single person...WHAT?!?! It makes no sense to me that they should be paid this much, can anyone answer why they get paid so much? Especially when there are people out there struggling to get by with 2 jobs! But a major leaguer or any professional athlete will sit out and claim that the minimum from last year, which was 390,000 isn't enough. Give me a break...
