St Louis Die Hards  > Group Message Board  > A little optimism.

As I sit back and look at the what the Cards are doing with the excellent pitching right now I am thinking that waiting for the bats to awaken might be the best thing.

Trading for a third basemen in this market would be a mistake because I don't see any that I would consider a long term fix other than maybe Joe Credie (I am from the
Jefferson City area and would love to see Joe wearing the Birds on the Bat).

To get the bat we need in left field would require trading for a guy that would be a FA next and cost too much money to resign for 2010 (Dewitt needs the cash because he is going to have to resign El Hombre before 2011 or pay at least $25 million/year for him if he waits.)

The Brewers and Cubs do not have the starting pitching to run away with the division and if the bats can come alive we will own the Central by 7-10 games by August 31st. A few things must happen though:

Ankiel, Rasmus and Ludwick have to become the everyday outfield. Duncan's surgery has taken away his power and the outside part of the plate. He is constantly looking away and he goes down looking when they bust him inside. Ankiel can at least cover the plate and he is an animal in left.

Skip has to play every day. He is hitting .300 and Thurston is hitting .240.

Play Tyler Greene at third and Ryan at short....Everyday. They both possess excellent gloves and provide speed in front of Pujols.

Just my opinion but if getting the most bang for your buck is the goal, this is the best team that Tony can put on the field.
