NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Marshall rumors?
June 17, 2009, 11:29 AM
The rumor mill continues to churn regarding potential destinations for Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall. Last night, we heard that the Ravens might be interested. We're hearing rumblings of Brandon possibly being traded to the Browns. The package would include, per the rumor, Browns kick returner/receiver Josh Cribbs and one or more draft picks. Such a move also would likely put Braylon Edwards in play for a trade elsewhere.

How do you all feel about this? I think it would be great to have him, I'd hate to lose Cribbs though...

To leave on dysfunctional organization to join another? doh!

Whenever has cleveland been relevant, and until some of Belichek's peons show they can win without him, I don't see Cleveland going anywhere soon. They can't even decide on a starting QB.

BMarsh is better off in Chitown, just give away a 2011 1st rounder, and the bears are set for a decade with talent on offense (Hester, Forte, Olsen, Cutler, Marshall) - sick.

Cribbs is awesome - would be a good addition to any team, including keeping him as a receiving threat.

I can see KC trying to pick up BMarsh - Todd Haley will need weapons to replace Gonzo, and provide some depth to Dwayne Bowe - it would that offense relevant again - and what better way to Baby T.O. - get back at an organization that just didn't "treat you right".

First off, I really like Cribbs play, but if he is not willing to play and the coach sees him as a problem, he is replaceable. The Browns signed former Buffalo Bills LB Blake Costanzo who led the Bills in special teams tackles. That is 1/2 of the replacement. We also have a lot of new blood that I bet would just love to try to prove themselves as a return man.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on signing Marshall, but if we do....WOW. He was the 7th best NFL receiver last year, but more importantly was his YAC. He was close to the top of the best receivers the last 2 years.

If we don't give a 1st or 2nd round pick, do the trade.

I think any trade talk with Edwards was a smoke screen. I think coach thinks he can get him to play to his abilities or we would have been gone long ago.

Dawson will be next.

I just don't see Mangini licking his chops for Brandon Marshall: Arrested four times in three years.
That doesn't sound like the type of player that he has claimed to want. He's a great receiving threat, but we have that in Braylon Edwards--sans legal problems.

Cribbs is not that easy to replace. He is such an athlete and leader in the locker room that the Browns really cannot afford to lose him. Since the offense seems to be going toward the ground them and pound them route, a solid return man is crucial to gaining good field position.

The Browns better sign Dawson. He is a great bad weather kicker, which is clutch in Cleveland. Plus, he makes 82% of his kicks (career NFL best is 86.47%).

Don't forget a big part of Marshall's numbers was the prima donna throwing him the ball. I don't think he would have those numbers without baby Jay tossing it.

I don't disagree with any of your points. I was not up on all of Marshall's off the field antics. How is he in the locker room. I think coach is more concerned with his leadership on the field and if he will get on board and not be a problem. If his off the field problems will be to much of a distraction, then no, he won't be signed.

I might be wrong, but it looks to me that contract holdouts is a point the coach won't budge on. It's kind of like negotiating with a terrorist. Once they see they can get away with it, where does it end. If you sign a damn contract, honor the damn thing!

Good point, but that is why I mention the yards after the catch. I haven't seen him play but the numbers don't make him look like the kind of player that will always dart out of bounds to avoid a hit.

He's a tough kid, no doubt, but I just don't trust the track record. Maybe I'll ask some Denver fns what their opinion of him is.

June 17, 2009  08:04 PM ET

Marshall is a really good receiver, Cutler may have thrown the balls but atleast Marshall CAUGHT them and yes the YAC is crucial too, as LowCountry said He's a tough Kid. All that being said, I think Cribbs is a lot more valuable to this team than a lot of people give him credit for. I would like to see them keep Cribbs and teach Braylon how to catch, just my opinion.

Go Browns!!

Just in case anyone was interested, I found a link with a little background on Marshalls off-field history: http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_9686832

Looks like a stand up guy to me, just keep the ex-girlfriend away from him. LOL

June 18, 2009  12:29 PM ET

Okay IF we get Marshall and he somehow shapes up, IF we hold on to Edwards and he returns to 07 form, IF we keep Cribbs and he finally develops into a receiver and not just a return threat and IF the two second rounders play like we think they're capable of, then we'd be in for a very good year!

haha, well said. This girl's got his number - watch if he gets traded to the Browns how she moves there too.

I would love to have someone of his calliber but he is a nightmare waiting to happen. The Browns need help, but not that bad. He's allways running his mouth and their is a reason why the police have been called to his house several times over the past year.

GOOD RECEIVER\BAD CHARACTER...
