I could add a few more current players to the honorable mention list, but I do plan on updating my top 50 each and every off-season.
June 18, 2009  08:59 PM ET

ok nice idea. but i think you are adding too many players who are in the league right now.

ex. deron williams, ben wallace, jermaine oneal, yao ming, pau gasol, mike bibby, ron artest.

those players havent done anything yet. ben wallace is only famous for being on the championship team with the fro. oneal sucked with the blazers and now sucks with raptors and heat. yao, 7-6, and you got a stupid 6-10 guys putting up more rebounds than you? pau gasol; he was a grizzly which never went nowhere, before he became a laker. bibby, a top 50 nominee? really? and artest is only famous for his famous fight.

another example: dirk and tim duncan are in the top 50, at 29 and 10 respectively. they dont deserve to be there. and where is david robinson? i dont see him ahead of duncan? really?

June 19, 2009  07:41 AM ET

tim duncan is the greatest pf to ever play imo so i think your list is pretty solid....except for the fact that you have dirk, wade, and ai ahead of pippen. i also think kobe should be somewhere in the top 15

June 19, 2009  09:33 AM ET

You have to break it down by position, period. It never made any sense when the NBA did it as Top 50 overall and this doesn't make any sense either. How do you compare Shaq and Kobe, let alone Moses Malone and Kobe.

June 19, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Duncan >>> Robinson

June 19, 2009  10:31 AM ET

if you think Robinson is better than Duncan, you must be delusional. Duncan is a Top 10-15 player. Robinson is not.

June 19, 2009  10:54 AM ET

18 should be swapped with 20.

June 19, 2009  10:55 AM ET

I wonder how long it'll take for someone to jump all over my last comment.

June 19, 2009  11:27 AM ET

There's is no way in hell that Magic Johnson can be No. 4, and Kobe No. 18. They are MUCH closer than that. People love to use the "Kobe had Shaq" argument when assessing Kobe amongst the all-time greats, but Magic had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy. TWO Hall of Famers.

Kobe not in the top ten is a travesty; he's the second-best shooting guard in the history of the NBA, and it's much more difficult to dominate a game from the perimeter than it is from the paint.

And have you looked at raw ability at all? Larry Bird could barely get up and down the court for the latter portion of his career, how would he do against guys like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James?

June 19, 2009  11:29 AM ET

Thirty years of research, you said? Thirty years of research and NICK ANDERSON makes the honorable mention? A stand-alone three-point shooter with a limited all-around game? C'mon, this is a joke.

June 19, 2009  11:30 AM ET

Chris Bosh honorable mention? Has he even won a playoff series? He's the softest power forward I've ever seen. A born loser. Will never win anything and can't hold his own against any true big men.

June 19, 2009  11:32 AM ET

For a list of all-time greats like this, you need to focus more on winning. Players who led their teams championships...plural. How is Charles Barkley ahead of Kobe? Kevin Garnett? Even Hakeem at No. 7, only two rings.

You're an obvious Kobe-hater.

June 19, 2009  11:34 AM ET

You hate perimeter players. How is Bob Cousy not in the top 20? Arguably the greatest point guard of all time. And George Gervin is way too low, he was unstoppable offensively in his day.

You're an obvious space-hog.

Where is Mookie Blaylock in this discussion? He doesn't have to be in the top 50, but not even honorable mention? Nick Anderson, Bruce Bowen, and Juwan Howard are honorable mention, yet Blaylock -- 24th all time in assists per game, fifth in steals per game -- is nowhere to be found.

Here's a list going to 50, and a guy who is top 25 in two of the major categories isn't even honorable mention. Hmm.

Lol, I just noticed more problems with the list as a I read on. I would have listed them all at once if it came to me in that manner.

June 19, 2009  12:17 PM ET

Mike Bibby and Deron Williams (who definitely hasn't been playing long enough to qualify for a list of this magnitude) make honorable mention as active players, but Baron Davis doesn't?

Baron is in the top 25 of all time in both assists and steals per game. Nineteenth in assists, twenty-first in steals. Bibby is nowhere to be found on those lists.

He isnt in the top 10 on a lot of peoples lists. I would put Kobe around number 12-15 personally, but no higher. I would say all time I would still put Kobe over Lebron, but Lebron wins 1 ring and that would already probably change in my opinion. Lebron is just a brute force the kind of force that Jordan became about his 6th-7th season in the league.

The rest are OK; I may nitpick a spot or two but overall its a pretty good list.

And to another poster here, Duncan was better than Robinson; Robinson couldn't win much without Duncan, but as Robinson left Duncan still owned the league and still commands so much respect.

June 19, 2009  10:44 PM ET

I can't stand Kobe's persona and I am no Lakers fan but he's as gifted as any player up there. He has to be in the top 10. I still maintain the whole exercise is contrived. You cannot adequately compare players at different positions.

June 19, 2009  10:45 PM ET

If Jerry freaking West says Kobe is the most talented Laker ever then he has to be in the top 10.

How can you have Paul Pierce over Pistol Pete?
