Great article in Dawgs by Nature

To quote Heath Ledger's character from the legendary The Dark Knight, "And here...we...go."

It's Week 1 of our 2009 Cleveland Browns training camp preview here at Dawgs By Nature, where the theme will focus on the offensive attack -- quarterbacks and running backs. Today and over the next two days, we'll talk about the quarterbacks Eric Mangini has to choose from this year in camp, as well as whether we can finally put this quarterback debate to an end.

Right now, I can almost guarantee you that the majority of fans want Brady Quinn to be Mangini's choice as the starter. That is a lot different than last year. At the beginning of July last year, when I ran a poll on Dawgs By Nature asking how many fans thought Quinn should be named the starter heading into the 2008 training camp, only 18 out of 433 people gave him their approval. What happened over the past year to change everyone's opinion? Derek Anderson laid a big-fat egg.

Oops... forgot more of a comment :)

I agree almost entirely with the way this article reads out.... however, I think Anderson's upside is a little less than mentioned here. I think part of the reason Anderson fizzled was there was that much more tape on a pretty 1 or 2 dimentional player... and teams just new how to get him off balance.

I think Quinn is much more mobile and a lot smarter... seriously.... we need to see what he can do!

As I have stated before, I think Anderson has shown us his value last year and Quinn has sat long enough and needs a season to show us if he has it or not.

Since the coach won't tell us what is on his mind, I will throw out some possibilities.

1) Coach knows who he is going to start and just doesn't want to show his hand.

2) Coach thinks Anderson's can be fixed, i.e. his problems last year were because of his coaching (or lack of).

3) Coach is giving everyone, including Ratliff, an equal and complete chance to prove themselves.

4) Coach thinks Anderson and Quinn are near equal and wants to preserve Quinns trade value by letting a question mark remain over him.

5) Coach doesn't like any of them and is hoping a proven starter becomes available.

Who agrees and disagrees with these possibilities and why?

I want to lean more toward possibility #1, although with all the rumors that have been floating around it is real hard to say.

I would probably say #3 is the best possibility of what is really happening. Mangini liked Ratliff when they were both with the Jets and I don't think it's just a coincidence that he was a part of the draft day trade.

I also remember hearing in the past that neither DA or BQ were guys who practice real well. Which doesn't bode very well for either of them if it's true.

My personal opinion though is that I have seen enough of DA. He's a nice enough guy and all, but we all know where nice guys finish. I'm not fully sold on BQ, but I think it is time to see what he can do.

GO BROWNS!! Stick with it!!
