NFL  > Chicago Bears  > The Chicago Bears a sleeper to win the SuperBowl?
June 28, 2009, 06:45 AM
The passing attack in Chicago is not as bad as you think. I'm sure Chicago has enough to compete and be successful in the NFC north. The Bears receivers will be greatly improved this year with the addition of Cutler and T.E. Greg Olsen will have a career year. The O-line has improved with the addition of Orlando Pace and Kevin Shaffer plus if Chris Williams and Tommy Harris stay healthy...what then? Chicago Has the Offense and Defense to be in the mix.I can actually say...Watch out for the passing attack!!

I agree. Chicago is not a favorite to win the Super Bowl. So that makes them, just like nearly every other average NFL team, a "sleeper" to contend.

Orlando Pace hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2005. Jay Cutler is all but guaranteed to play games with the 2nd-string left tackle protecting his blind spot.

L.T. Orlando Pace (Rams) 2.0 sacks allowed (14 starts) VS John St. Clair (Bears) 9.75 sacks allowed (16 starts)

Olin Kreutz (Bears) 0 sacks allowed (16 starts)

Roberto Garza (Bears) 2.5 sacks allowed (16 starts)

Kevin Shaffer (Browns) 4.5 sacks allowed (15 starts)

Josh Beekman (Bears) 1.25 sacks allowed (16 starts)

Tait retired but his stats were: John Tait (Bears) 6.0 sacks allowed (16 starts)

The O-Line is better stat wise I Guess we will see come September, Cutler is a little more mobile than K.O. and should be considered when comparing the O-Line of this to last years.

Jay Cutler = Most Overrated QB in the NFL. The Bears will probably will make the play-offs, but that'll be it.

That would be Tony Romo...

Actually... Williams would move over to LT... so he'd have a first round pick last year protecting him.
Secondly, Cutler isn't over-rated as Eli Manning or Tony Romo. It's hard to over-rate a guy who has a rocket arm and threw for over 4,000 yards last year. The Bears will go to the Superbowl this year, no doubt in my mind.

Or a player who has given up 2 sacks in 15 games.

When did I say Cutler is overrated? Ever? Certainly not on this thread. But yeah, way to call me out on that...

Hint, a comma belongs between "read" and "Ouija". Learn how to write, bleech89. And while we are being petty, learn how to spell bleach.

Pace had one game where he didnt play last year, and gave up 2 sacks in 15 games. If people are insinuating, that the back up will give up an enormous amount of sacks in one game, I think you are mistaken, and should re evaluate your stance on the matter. If not, then I completely understand your concern about having a back up play LT, here or there, throughout the season. I highly doubt that will GREATLY effect the passing game of, Cutler though.

Seeing everything is on paper, right now, that is all we can base our arguments off of. Untill play starts and we see how well players handle the wear and tear of weekly bashings, I will stick with the stance that the Bears will have a good offensive line and passing game this year.

What is a sleeper? Every team in the N.F.L. is a sleeper to win the Superbowl. The Superbowl is never guaranteed. The sports commentators always have their picks and they are 99% wrong every season. The commentators don`t even mention the Bears until the Bears start winning. Then what do they say? "Just like the 85 Bears this Bear team is great!" The commentators did it in 2005 and 2006. The Bears have never been sleepers, the Bears are either contenders or they are not. The first half of the season will let everyone know. Contender or not!

July 3, 2009  10:05 AM ET

Why does it seem like there is so many Bears fans on this board?

Wouldn't surprise me if the Bears made the Super Bowl or won it. Wouldn't surprise me if they went 5-11 either.

This is the NFL. Parity rules. Just about every team has a shot if things fall their way.

Those idiots who predicted the Cowboys to go all the way in 07, should have their nose hairs plucked out, and told to go sit in a corner..............................:-0

The Bears are legit contenders but they are not the contender the sports writers and media will predict to win the superbowl...thats why they are a sleeper team...any more clarification?
