NFL  > New York Jets  > Vernon Gholston returns from the dead!
July 3, 2009, 12:20 AM
With Calvin Pace now suspended for the first 4 games of the season for a substance violation, someone will have to step up. This is a blessing in disguise, as the team will be forced to put Gholston on the field at the weakside LB spot where he can blitz and run around a little more freely. The 4 weeks of playing time he'll get early on will set him up confidence-wise for the rest of the season. When the playoffs roll around and the Jets are heading in with Gholston having 8-10 sacks this year, we can all point to today when Calvin Pace got suspended for the first quarter of the season.

Calvin pace played very well last year and well help vernon get the fundamentals at his position and bart scott who was a DE that Moved to LB knows about that transition However the first 3 games are our toughest games and we need them the keep our confidence high and as of this second Pace is by far a better player and will hurt the team by not being on the field and Vernon is a very talented guy however his first games that he starts are going to be the games that he will have mistakes and The frist three games are not a good time it well be possible that he get beat a few times on Hugh plays and that may force him to take a few steeps back in his process. WEEK 1 Houston texans Very young quick team should give Vernon any trouble except they may have some shots out to the TE which is his area of coverage and owen "huston TE" is quick and has great hands which may help vernon look good because there going to use him and vernon is a very athletic guy as long as he keeps coverage that game may be good. WEEK 2 NE very explosive offense they will attack the weakest link Week 3 Titans top notch team there Week 4 Saints .... the best offense in the NFL "2008 statistics" VERNON GHOLSTON well be a threat and well become a top caliber player however its not going to happen over night hes in a harder class of players in the nfl and learning a new position on top of that NOT TO MENTION the new atmosphere i wouldn't be surprised if they just didnt end up keeping him a DE since we have no depth there and the only players we do have at that position are getting old. But let just hope the loss of Pace dont hurt us too bad and vernon will have a better year with more playing time but he still has a long way to go.
