MLB  > New York Yankees  > Wang goes down with a shoulder strain

Chien-Ming Wang left today???s game after 5.1 innings of work. He was pitching well up unil the 6th inning, where he gave up 3ER. The word on Wang is that he has a shoulder strain and that is definitely bad news. Any time you are dealing with your shoulder it???s a serious matter. He will most likely head to the disabled list, but now the question is who will take his spot. I would really like to see Phil Hughes back in the rotation, but who really knows what the Yankees are going to do.

Some teams are even interested in trading for Wang. At this point, is it even worh trading him at such a low value? Maybe if he was pitching decent it would make sense. Anyway, now that he is headed towards the DL it shouldn???t matter.

Update 6:00PM ET: (Courtesy of Peter Abraham)

Chien-Ming Wang had an MRI at Columbia Presbyterian and was back at the park by the end of the game.

He is headed for the DL with what is being described as a strain with bursitis. But everybody seems to think that he will be back within a month.

The Yankees traditionally fudge the details of injuries. But according to Wang, the pain he felt was far less severe than the shoulder inflammation that put him on the DL for nearly two months in 2005. The doctor he saw this afternoon told him that rest and rehab would take care of his issues in a few weeks.

Do not expect Phil Hughes or Alfredo Aceves to step in as neither is stretched out enough, although the Yankees will need that spot only once (Thursday) before the break. Sergio Mitre has pitched well for Scranton and could be the choice.
From MLB Trade Rumors:

Saturday: Heyman says the Phillies offered ???a prospect apparently not to Yankees??? liking??? for Wang.

Friday: SI???s Jon Heyman tweets that the Phillies and Rangers are among the teams interested in Yankees righthander Chien-Ming Wang. We first learned of Philadelphia???s interest in the sinkerballer last weekend, but the Rangers are new to the discussion. With the recent news that Ben Sheets may not pitch all at this season, Texas could turn to Wang for help as they prepare to make a second half run at the first place Angels. They certainly have the young players to offer in exchange for Wang, or any other pitcher in the big leagues for that matter.

Wang famously struggled earlier in the season but has settled down of late, allowed three earned runs or less in his last four starts.
